## What is 麻雀友?

Mahjong Yau is Cantonese mahjong built for playing with people you actually know.

■ Three ways to sit down

• In the same room
Two phones with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on. They do not need to be on the same network, and neither needs mobile data. On a trip, on a long coach ride, on a plane, waiting at the gate: take the phone out and the table is open.

• In different places
Open a table and you get a table code. Send the link on WhatsApp and your friend taps it to sit straight down, with no code to type in. Wherever they are, they can join.

At an online table you can talk to the other three: hold the button, say it, let go. Mute any seat you would rather not hear.

• Nobody free right now
Quick match seats you with other players immediately, and the computer fills any empty seats so there is no waiting. Or play the computer on its own: start whenever, leave whenever.

■ Two ways to play, chosen when the table opens

• Cantonese style: chow and flowers, faan counted on a win. Chicken hand, all sequences, all triplets, mixed one suit, pure one suit, thirteen orphans. Faan and the limit are worked out in full, in one place.
• Pao Ma Zai, horseracing style: no chow, no flowers, a self-draw turns the horse. Fast, and a hand is over quickly.

House rules are agreed before the table opens, and everyone at it plays the same ones.

■ A real Cantonese table

• Cantonese throughout: sik wu, zi mo, soeng giu, zit wu, ceot cung. Reading the table should not be the hard part.
• Sideways or upright: landscape gives the table room, portrait fits one hand.
• Your tiles, your order: two rows of seven, or the tile you just drew on a row of its own.
• Whose turn it is is written on the table, so nobody has to work it out.
• Discarding and drawing buzz. Turn it off in settings if you would rather they did not.
• 打牌紀錄 keeps the days you have played: fourteen weeks at a glance, with days played, current streak, longest streak and your usual playing time.

■ What it costs

• Free: playing the computer, joining a friend's table, quick match, choosing how hard the computer plays, choosing the stake, and the advanced table settings. Three free tables a day to open yourself.
• Subscribe and you get: no pauses to watch anything, no ads anywhere, open as many tables as you like, and hints.
• No coins, no gems, no spinning wheel. Play when you want to play.
• Whether the ads are personalized is your call, in your device’s tracking settings. Say no and nothing about the game changes — you still see ads, they are simply not personalized.

You open the table. Your friends do not have to buy anything to sit down.

■ Subscription

Mahjong Yau Plus comes monthly or yearly, and the price is shown in the app. It renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends, in your App Store account settings.

Never lose a hand to the clock. If your time runs out and your hand can already win, the game now declares the win for you instead of discarding.

Scoring updated: 十三幺 (Thirteen Orphans), 大四喜 and 小四喜 are now counted correctly, and score the same whether you play on your own or against other people.

Further bug fixes and reliability improvements.

### 1.2.1 — 2026-09-09

A retuned computer opponent, a record of the days you play, and a say in your ads.

• The difficulty ladder has been retuned. 高手 no longer makes the careless discards it used to, and plays a clean hand from start to finish.
• 打牌紀錄 keeps the days you have played: fourteen weeks at a glance, with days played, current streak, longest streak and your usual playing time.
• Choose the 封頂 for your own table, 無上限 included.
• Choose whether your ads are personalized. Say no and nothing about the game changes — you still see ads, they are simply not personalized.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-26

Voice notes at online tables, background music, and an opponent's claim now announces itself. All skill levels and stakes are free to play.

• Talk to the other three players at an online table. Hold the button, say it, let go. You can mute any seat you would rather not hear.
• Background music plays under the table, with its own volume dial. It comes back cleanly after a phone call, and pauses rather than jumping to the speaker if you unplug your headphones.
• An opponent's 碰 / 上 / 槓 flashes the claimed tiles and their wind, so you always see what just happened.
• Choosing the computer's difficulty, the stake, and the advanced table settings are now free for everyone.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-08-22

Mostly fixes to things that got in the way of a hand.

. Tapping Leave and then watching the ad left the whole app frozen. Fixed.
. Chow, pung and kong buttons now draw the actual tile that was discarded, so you can see at a glance what you are taking.
. The discard pile is wider: thirteen tiles fit on a row before it shrinks, which makes it much easier to read who threw what.
. The row of opponent names is narrower, giving the table back some room.

・快速對戰：撳一下即刻同其他雀友埋位，唔夠人由電腦補位，唔使乾等。
・私人枱：開枱攞個枱號，喺 WhatsApp send 條 link 俾朋友，佢撳一撳就坐低。
・斷咗線可以喺一分鐘內接返上，張枱等你返嚟。

打得順手啲
・橫向枱面：打橫打，枱面闊晒，十四隻牌一行過。
・牌點樣排：可以揀兩行七隻，或者新摸嗰隻自己一行，一眼睇到邊隻係新牌。
・河點樣排：而家預設每人一行，邊個打過乜一目了然，想睇返舊樣可以喺設定轉。
・出牌、摸牌有震動回饋，設定入面可以閂。
・直向枱面嘅手牌加闊咗，十三隻牌唔再逼埋一舊。

睇得清楚啲
・埋牌之後一人一行，連名連輸贏，唔使自己數。
・上、碰、槓直接畫返你放低嗰幾隻牌。
・登入唔到會直接話你知咩事，唔會靜靜哋唔郁。
・設定同開機畫面寫住而家用緊邊個版本。
