Maiku is a Haiku composer that enables you to write, collect, and share your poems. What is Haiku? -------------- Haiku is a simple, terse form of poetry that originated in Japan. It has a rich and deep history there. It came to the United States at the beginning of the 20th century and has been used by established poets and school children alike. It follows the basic format of three lines: five syllables in the first and third and seven in the second. Compose --------- The Maiku editor counts your syllables as you write each line. Share ------ Share your poetry either as text or as an image, in a Tweet, on Instagram, as a text, or however else you see fit. Share your writing with your friends and the world. Great way to learn Haiku. ### 5/5 — Putting the fun in functional *2026-06-02, version 2.1* This app makes the poem easy to format so that the focus is on the creative message of the poem and I don’t have to worry about counting syllables. Currently, I like to see how many haikus I can write in 10 minutes since the app time marks when you finish them and that’s been super great too! I haven’t tried posting yet, but the templates promoted look cute and there’s a dark mode too, which I always appreciate. Such a simple way to capture haiku while I’m out for a walk. It looks like this app has been abandoned. Certain words like ‘desire’ to me has 2 syllables, but in the app it says 3 syllables which isn’t a problem, but it makes the last syllable grey if you go over, and I think haiku are descriptive, not prescriptive, so it would be nice to at least leave it fully visible, with just the syllable count at the bottom telling you you are over.
