Maiku is simple and elegant, just like a Haiku. Kudos to the developer! That said, I’d like to have an extra field at the bottom of exported images to add short context notes (date, location, etc). The text should be small and a little transparent so it doesn’t stand out. It would also be nice to read different published haikus for inspiration instead of the one instructional haiku. Another haiku writing app does this, but Maiku has more features. Lastly, why not make the app open to the writing page rather than the journal page? If I open the app, it’s more likely to be because I want to write rather than to read what I’ve already written. I am creating a montage of selected haikus and photos from my recent trip to Scandinavia. I’m excited to share my journey in this multi-media fashion. Great way to learn Haiku. ## Most praised reviews (9 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Putting the fun in functional *2026-06-02, version 2.1* This app makes the poem easy to format so that the focus is on the creative message of the poem and I don’t have to worry about counting syllables. Currently, I like to see how many haikus I can write in 10 minutes since the app time marks when you finish them and that’s been super great too! I haven’t tried posting yet, but the templates promoted look cute and there’s a dark mode too, which I always appreciate. All in all, this helps me warm up for a writing day or give my brain a reset after a long doomscroll and is a great outlet both beginners and pros would find helpful and clear cut. ### 5/5 — Image Option *2026-03-19, version 2.1* No longer works? ### 5/5 — Excellent *2025-08-24, version 2.1* This is an excellent app for creating standard haiku poetry. Is there a limit to how many haiku can be saved. Such a simple way to capture haiku while I’m out for a walk. It looks like this app has been abandoned. Certain words like ‘desire’ to me has 2 syllables, but in the app it says 3 syllables which isn’t a problem, but it makes the last syllable grey if you go over, and I think haiku are descriptive, not prescriptive, so it would be nice to at least leave it fully visible, with just the syllable count at the bottom telling you you are over. Still a great app though, and that’s bearing in mind my loose grammar isn’t really their problem lol ### 5/5 — Simple and beautiful *2024-05-29, version 2.1* I was recently introduced to Haiku and try to write one in my journal every day.
