I was so pleased initially. I scored this 3 because it might be me or the settings on my phone, if it wasn’t me I’d have scored it 1 because it was utterly useless on the day ☹️. I downloaded the map I wanted and we started on our walk, everything good for the first 10 mins. The phone screen had gone blank because I hadn’t looked at it for that time. Unlocked the phone and the app had gone back to the Home Screen. Clicked on the wall we wanted again. It wanted to download again. Annoying, but okay. Needless to say this became the theme of the walk. If I kept the phone on then everything was okay, but I couldn’t possibly do that for 3 hours. For most of the walk we barely had 3G and it took well over 5 minutes to download the map. For the last quarter of the walk we had no reception at all, got lost and had to walk back via the road. Shame because otherwise the app seemed good. ### 5/5 — Top notch *2021-04-03, version 2.1* A simple but helpful little app guide showing a number of walking routes around the general Malvern area. Photo directions plus gps location tracking and hints on the route. Excellent, thank you! ### 5/5 — Lovely MalvernWalks app *2021-02-26, version 2.1* The MalvernWalks app is lovely to use, very informative and functional. The photos are good quality, with detailed annotations, and easy to follow maps. I’ve never had trouble using the app on my IPhone 7+, and better still it’s free to download. Thank you for providing such a lovely functional app, I love it. Sarah. ### 5/5 — Made a great walk even better *2020-08-10, version 2.0* Downloaded and used this app today to do British Camp walk. It was very useful indeed giving precise location on the map aided by photos showing where to go. It also gives lots of information en route to make it more enjoyable - history, geology, views etc. I initially struggled to use it - the feet pointing right/left for forward/back (duh!) - too clever/twee by half. But easy to use once you’ve pressed a few buttons! Congrats to developer and Malvern area for making this so good (and free) ### 5/5 — Fun and useful *2019-05-02, version 1.7* This was really helpful, allowing us to plan a walk and then tracking it in real time. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but made no difference. We felt like our chosen walk was spot on, and the pictures and arrows very helpful! As novice walkers, it was a great find! I’m crossing fingers that a few more walk get added soon! ### 4/5 — Great App but... *2018-09-01, version 1.6* I downloaded this app yesterday and used it on my day out to the Malvern Hills, I thought it was a brilliant app and made navigating around the hills even more fun and enjoyable. If there’s one thing about the app that lets it down and hence why I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 is that the display doesn’t seem to fit correctly on screen when you’ve got your display in zoomed mode on the iPhone 7 Plus, apart from that the app is top stuff! ### 5/5 — Highly Recommended *2018-04-26, version 1.6* For years I’ve been frustrated with walking apps with confusing and inadequate route instructions. If only someone would come up with an app that included positioning, real photos with arrows marking routes and helpful background. Well they have and this is it! A really useful, well thought out and brilliantly executed app. Well done all involved! (I haven’t written app reviews before but was so impressed with this one I had to share my thoughts) ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Don’t use this on iPhone *2022-09-09, version 2.4.2* It’s hard to believe that any developer would publish an app like this — even a free one. It doesn’t fit on the screen of an iPhone X: text is truncated on the right and buttons are inaccessible. The notch obscures screen elements. You can’t even pinch to shrink the page so you can see the whole thing. Avoid ### 1/5 — So disappointed! *2022-06-10, version 2.4.2* This should be a brilliant app. But I hated it once I started using it for one reason. I used it to get to the start point in the south when driving there for an end-to-end walk. I used the postcode on the app & the given names, & (very limited) directions so that I could park up & set off. When arriving at the postcode supplied by the app, there was no car park. Just an empty private field. Nor was the house there, opposite as suggested. And the building names given by the app were also completely different or non-existent. I ended up driving around for 40 minutes trying to find somewhere to park because the postcode & directions were incorrect. It was simply so irritating that I have now deleted it. ### 1/5 — No good *2022-05-30, version 2.4.2* Doesn’t fit the screen and no way to zoom out on my iPhone 13 pro. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t fit screen, won’t zoom out *2020-08-09, version 2.0* It’s huge for my iPhone 11, and if I try to zoom out the screen just goes black. Unusable sadly. ### 1/5 — Malvern walkers *2020-07-20, version 2.0* Downloaded this app, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to zoom in or out and doesn’t size right on the screen of the iPhone 11 ### 1/5 — Useless *2019-10-06, version 1.7* Good idea but it just says stuff like, go to the end of the woodland (which is massive and many turn off points) find the gate and head down the hill. There is no turn left or right at major points and you can end up walking 3 miles in either direction to even find where the app wanted you to go. ### 1/5 — This ap does not work in iPhone XS *2019-01-01, version 1.6* Looking forward to walk in Malvern Hills. Download the app and it shows only a partial view of the text. Then I cannot navigate away. Needs fixing ### 1/5 — Doesn't work! *2017-08-11, version 1.2* I can only see one walk on this app - Malvern Town. Despite being connected to the Wifi, the other walks won't download. Found this app and it’s perfect for our needs. Turn ### 5/5 — What a great app *2021-08-12, version 2.2* I normally prefer to use a map but the myriad paths heading up Happy Valley made me wonder which way to get to North Hill. This app fits the bill exactly, with photos of each path junction and an audible warning navigation was simple. Once on the top I switched back to my map but if I’d realised beforehand how good this app was I would have used it for the whole walk to Herefordshire Beacon. ### 5/5 — Best walking app!! *2021-07-28, version 2.2* This is the best walking app we have ever come across, gives a step by step with pictures of each walk with clear directions and travel information.
