### 4/5 — Very clean

*2024-09-27*

This is my favorite Mastodon client by far! Clean, modern design with a dark mode. The only thing I don't like is how threads are handled--hoping they can add indentation support soon!

### 3/5 — Okay

*2024-04-29*

This is my favorite fediverse app on iOS. The devs don’t seem to check (or ignore) support requests within the app. It is nicely designed, but it has issues and it seems difficult to communicate those issues to their developer(s).

### 4/5 — “we enabled telemetry”

*2024-04-27*

… but the Notion link to “why did we enable telemetry” asks me to login, which i won’t do.

Mammoth is hit/miss. Back in its beta times, when expectations were low, the app felt quite compelling. Now a little less so, and small inconveniences like having to tap N times on a video to pause or stop, get old rather quickly. The posts-shortening algorithm feels strange (adding multiple trimmed paras with ellipses). Quitting the app also sometimes loses the “last read” marker. And so on.

Good, overall.

### 3/5 — Needs some UI tweaks but good overall

*2024-04-15*

Solid app. Love the ability to save your place in the timeline. This app desperately needs a “go to newest” or “go to top” button

### 3/5 — Slick Mastodon Client with One Fatal Flaw

*2024-04-13*

Mastodon hasn't become an addiction to replace the formerly fun bird network that's just for toxic people and fascists now. That's fine. But it means I sometimes don't open Mammoth for days. When that happens, getting to the most recent stories, skipping the posts I missed over the past few days, is an exercise of scrolling up, refreshing the feed, and repeating. Endlessly. Why on earth would this not just skip to the most recent posts?

### 3/5 — Nice update… unintuitive notification section

*2024-01-19*

“All activity” shows everything like it should, but there’s no where to approve follower requests. Just tells you that you have follower requests and won’t let you approve or deny them in any fashion. The notification only takes you to that user’s profile.

Furthermore, swiping over to the “follows” section of notifications only shows you who has been approved - totally leaves out follower requests which should also be there to approve/deny.

### 3/5 — It’s ok.

*2023-12-21*

I’m not a fan of the navigation at the bottom. I wish they just went with standard iOS design elements. I’m also not a fan of the change to a heart instead of the star for likes. Other than that the algorithms for smart lists is pretty neat. I’ll keep it installed to see how it improves over time but I still greatly prefer Ice Cubes for Mastodon.

### 4/5 — Just one nag

*2023-12-16*

App works wonderfully. I was looking for an alternative to Ivory and this fits the bill. My only complaint is that scrolling the timeline, even at a reasonable speedy is janky and stutters a lot. Hopefully this will be fixed in a future update.

**Developer response:** Hey, thank you for your feedback! We’ve been working on getting rid of some bugs and fixing issues surrounding the overall smoothness of the timeline, and in the latest version, you should see some solid improvements on that end.

Thank you for using Mammoth!

### 3/5 — Getting better, but not without issues

*2023-12-15*

Things have gotten a lot better lately with new features and a lot more polish, but some problems persist. Namely image quality when viewed within the app is much, much worse than the image quality of the original photos/videos hosted on their respective fediverse servers. It’s as if they’ve failed to correctly load and is especially noticeable/unusable on iPad.

**Developer response:** Want to let you know that we launched Mammoth 2 yesterday. Almost all new code (except for Composer). In addition to enhanced UI and simple onboarding, we’ve added instant suggestions and curated “smart lists” to help people easily discover interesting conversations. The “For You” feed feels even more personalized! Hope you’ll check it out and that it lives up to the promise you saw in April.

### 5/5 — Mammoth 2 is here!

*2023-12-12*

Well done, developers! Love the feed that shows each post and boost separately rather than grouped together. Makes it easier to view! And love that it’s easy to see someone’s individual posts rather than all their re-boosts.

And thank you for the featured interest feed! Love how I can find new people to follow with shared interests!

### 5/5 — Easy to get started on Mastodon

*2023-12-12*

I’m new to mastodon, and Mammoth made it really easy to set up an account. User-friendly design and love the idea of smart lists.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2023-12-11*

I’m so happy to have discovered Mammoth app. I followed a bunch of cool people and scoped out the amazing smart lists. What a great idea! So many topics to choose from! My favorite list is about pixel art and the recommendations on the For You feed have been great. Great app!

### 5/5 — Wow! It’s so sleek

*2023-12-11*

I’ve wanted to join Mastodon for a long time but couldn’t deal with the complexity. Mammoth to the rescue! It was a breeze to sign up taking just a couple of minutes. Follow suggestions and smart lists connected me to my interests and the For You feed is helping me discover new accounts. It’s the best new app and an absolute joy to use.

### 5/5 — Best for Mastodon Newbies

*2023-12-09*

This app makes on-boarding to the fediverse and finding accounts to follow super easy. Great starting point for anyone who wants to try out the future of social networks.

### 5/5 — Excellent work

*2023-12-08*

I almost never leave reviews on try App Store, but this app made browsing Mastodon infinitely better and I would recommend this to anyone looking to try out Mastodon. In comparison, the official app is clunky, has too little customization and a giant font. This app is smooth, has beautiful UI, and is highly customizable.

### 5/5 — Very user friendly

*2023-12-08*

Visually appealing. Amazing way to aggregate relevant information. Nice work.

### 3/5 — Problems

*2023-12-07*

For You never loads.

### 1/5 — VC Scam

*2023-12-10*

Update for v2.0: The same VC-backed garbage, now with AI and algorithms. None of the real issues have been solved. Lipstick on a pig. Stay away, and instead try *any* other Mastodon app. Old review: Don’t fall for this VC-backed Trojan horse. It’s aiming to centralize, monetized and erode Mastodon. They use their own server, and say people can move away any time, but for how long? The moment this server gains enough users, they’ll stop allowing that and trap their users. This is what all centralized VC-backed services do. Try *any* other client and server, and stay away from this particular one.

**Developer response:** Hi! Our aim to improve accessibility to Mastodon by simplifying and make it easy for newcomers to join. To use our client, you don't have to be on our server. You can sign up to join a different server using another client and then use Mammoth for the UI. But for people new to Mastodon and who don't understand what servers are, having a one-stop option is A LOT easier. We're for accessibility and ease of use and our choices reflect that. We want to let you know that we launched Mammoth 2 yesterday. Almost all new code (except for Composer). In addition to enhanced UI and simple onboarding, we’ve added instant suggestions and curated “smart lists” to help people easily discover interesting conversations. The “For You” feed feels even more personalized! Hope you’ll check it out!

### 1/5 — Trash

*2023-12-07*

Garbage. It auto-follows the Mammoth account when you first login and all of its recommendations are filled with political propaganda.

### 1/5 — just use mastodon on web instead

*2023-07-21*

This app is just an awful mastodon experience. I’m uninstalling it and will just use the web version on my ipad instead.

### 1/5 — Can’t even sign in?

*2023-07-05*

only lets you pick from a certain few instances? i couldn’t even sign in to mstdn dot ca. or tech dot lgbt. other apps don’t do this…

**Developer response:** You can sign in to any mastodon instance! On the community selection screen, enter the url in the “Community Name or URL” bar and press done. You can then proceed to the next phase of the sign in :)

### 1/5 — Crashed 3 times in first 5 minutes.

*2023-06-10*

What is this? Froze on first open then crashed 3 times in the first 5 minutes of use. This kind of experience is why people think Mastodon is janky.

### 1/5 — can't actually refresh

*2023-03-19*

There doesn't seem to be any way to refresh more than the top handful of toots. So my feed is always a couple new items and then everything else is dated days to weeks old.

it's been like this for a while so I'm just given up.

**Developer response:** Hi Zraja101!

We're sorry to hear this. We shall work on resolving this soon!

### 1/5 — VC Scam

*2023-03-04, version 1.1*

Don’t fall for this VC-backed Trojan horse. It’s aiming to centralize, monetized and erode Mastodon. They use their own server, and say people can move away any time, but for how long? ### 1/5 — Pretty interface, but....

*2023-03-04*

To the developers who responded: I mention nothing about MacOS! I am trying to use this on my iPad! Notifications, bookmarks, favourites are not showing up.

Not as good as the iPhone version. Notifications don't show up. Neither do favourites or bookmarks and the timeline is wonky. Just not ready for prime time I'm afraid.

**Developer response:** Hi Ansk!

Thank you for the kind words and support. We don't 'officially' support macOS yet, but do plan to release a dedicated version for that platform soon. This one is primarily focused on iPhone.

### 1/5 — Horrible App

*2023-02-28, version 1.0.2*

I heard about this new site and wanted to give it a try well as soon as I logged in to the account my account would not load I tried closing the app and opened up more times than I could count and it just wouldn’t load pure rubbish I give this a 1 star!!

### 2/5 — Lost its way

*2023-12-09*

I’ve been using it since the betas and it was clean, fast, functional, and gave me the customization I was looking for. The new 2.0 release added features I am not interested in and dropped support for the ones I am.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Frederator Studios

*2024-11-16*

ActivityPub is a superior protocol to AT bc I said so. And because Bridgy Fed and SkyBridge said so too! Also the fediverse sounds like the production network that brought us Bee and PuppyCat, Adventure Time, Fairly OddParents, ChalkZone, My Life as A Teenage Robot, Random Cartoons, and Bravest Warios! This message was paid for by WaLuigi in mario tennis. Great app too!

### 5/5 — The best Mastodon app I’ve seen so far

*2024-10-19*

The UI is nice and auto-fetch of replies and metadata from other instances is a killer feature. it also properly renders markdown!

### 5/5 — Great

*2024-01-01*

It’s a fast Mastodon client, and does a great job and filling out the experience if you’re on a smaller instance. Highly recommended

### 5/5 — Great app.

*2023-12-30*

You can tell the devs really put lot of love into it. My favorite out many great ones.

### 5/5 — The best App to use Mastodon With

*2023-12-28*

The curated selections and simple yet advanced UI make this app stellar. It’s my daily driver now

### 5/5 — This is where we go after Twitter

*2023-12-20*

Mammoth is the best social web app for iOS. Skip Threads and Bluesky. This is the one you want.

### 5/5 — Great update

*2023-12-20*

Have been using Mammoth 2.0 for a few days now and it’s battling Ivory on my main homescreen! LOL
It’s such a nice revision of the app. Being able to scroll left to right and vice-versa on one screen to view all the lists I am following is my favorite part of the app. Very intuitive. I also really like the sounds it makes when you navigate and do certain things in the app. Usually I have that turned off but I’ve kept it on! They admittedly have some work to do in scrolling issues and other stuff but it’s the first iteration. They are very active and plan to make regular updates so I can’t complain about that at all. I decided to support them and paid the $20 yearly. I have no prob paying to help make the apps that are important to me continue to be successful and out out updates. So I’m looking forward to see what the Mammoth team has in-store next.

### 5/5 — A simple way to pull away from the bird site

*2023-12-16*

If you tried Mastodon and found it too confusing, Mammoth takes away much of that confusion. It’s simple, it’s well designed, and most importantly, it’s a way to wrestle control over your social away from ego-maniacal billionaires. Definitely worth trying.

### 5/5 — My favorite Mastodon client!

*2023-12-15*

Version one was great, had a lot of “extras”, but version 2 is just different. UX/UI is super clean and polished. Logging in and checking For You has become my main feed now. Love it!

### 5/5 — Mastodon for Threads users

*2023-12-14*

Mastodon w a For You feed and made beautiful and user friendly
