On top of that they are enjoyable to listen to with great replay-ability. Only complaint (took off one star for this) is that when iOS puts the app in the background I have to force restart the app to use it and re-find my place in the podcast. I just recently upgraded my phone to an iPhone 11 from an iPhone 7 and I can no longer listen to the manager tools App in the background. I was able to before on my iPhone 7. The app is well-designed, intuitive and easy to use. That's just the pretty wrapping paper, though. The real gift is the quality of the content contained throughout. ### 5/5 — Like the keys to the Matrix *2015-09-25* I have been an avid Manager Tools fan (devotee? disciple?) for about a year. It has changed my work life so much for the better by teaching me the value of behavioral diversity (a dry term that can be better described as getting out of your own head to better understand, work with and manage your coworkers.) For this I will be forever grateful. Understanding how others think and communicate has been the basis for substantial improvement at work and sometimes makes me feel like I have the keys to the matrix. ### 5/5 — Best tool for all managers *2015-09-25, version 1.3.4* Nowhere do you get the real life tactical tools to be a manager. Whether you are a first time manager or been doing it forever there is a lot of resource here. Length of listen is short enough for those of us with little attention span but enough detail to explain the rationale. Martin C. ### 5/5 — Like a Cheat Sheet!!! *2015-09-21* If you are like most of us managers, you have a difficult-to-work-with direct or peer. Understanding, and utilizing the DISC profile in conjunction with the Trinity almost feels like I'm cheating. I'd surely have been fired or resigned over the difficult person in my situation if I did not incorporate DISC. It provides you with the fundamentals of each of the four personality types' communication styles and needs, and teaches you how to quickly identify the one or more types that each of us fall into. I am so grateful for being taught this tool. It will pay huge dividends in your personal life as well. Great for the old school crowd who believe job success is sucking up to your boss and change or growth is irrelevant; any manager who wants to lead in the present with transparency and equity should look elsewhere. ### 1/5 — Buggy *2019-12-13* Great content. Five star actually. However, the podcasts can’t play while the app is in the background and the app is super buggy. In the last 24 hours, the iPhone shows 61% of my battery usage is from Manager Tools, and all of that has been in the background, I haven’t opened the app today or listened to any of the podcasts. ### 1/5 — Just doesn’t work *2018-05-11, version 1.5.7* I went through a stage of listening to these podcasts on a regular basis a year or so ago and was looking forward to getting back to it now I have more time, but the app has updated and is now unusable, not just difficult, it actually doesn’t work. This needs fixing ASAP as this resource is wasted otherwise. I can’t even register. I can’t imagine how frustrating it would be if I had subscribed and then not able to access anything. Please fix this issue . I also found the podcasts as self-referential instead of just laying out the basics of the topics. For instance, the podcasts often refer to the “trinity” without even telling you what that means. The author just assumes that you already know his material as well as he does. Many of the podcasts talk a lot about how they are “updates” to the original pod cast. But why should I care, especially if the “update” is over 12 years old? They again assume you are already familiar with the material. The app is also missing information. For instance The “DISC” diagram is missing. Furthermore, in the “shownotes” they have the gall to say “for those of you who don’t have the show-notes” … and then go on to describe the missing diagram. The author, Mark Horstman, appears to like the sound of his own voice, and is more interested in selling you stuff like “signed copies” of his book, rather than spending the time to create a useful, well organised app. ### 2/5 — Pausing constantly *2020-01-16, version 2.0.90* I liked listening using the app to find what I need, haven’t used it for a while now find it pausing automatically constantly every time when the phone went idle/protection screen like every 30 seconds! Bad managers can make everyone around them miserable. Their upbeat show puts me in the right dream of mind to go to work. For some reason the app or my phone can only save a certain amount of booked marked podcasts. Wish you could organize the book marked casts better instead of having to scroll through them all.
