## What is ManimStudio?

ManimStudio renders mathematical animations on iPhone and iPad using manim, the open-source animation engine behind 3Blue1Brown's videos. Type a Scene class, tap Render, and watch the math come to life as a video — entirely on-device, no signup, no cloud.

Built for math educators, content creators, and students who want to visualize mathematics without leaving their iPhone or iPad. ManimStudio bundles everything manim needs — there is nothing to install or configure.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Author Scene classes that produce animated videos using manim's full mobject API: Text, MathTex, Circle, Square, Arrow, Graph, NumberPlane, Transform, FadeIn, Write, Create.
• Render at multiple qualities (480p, 720p, 1080p, 4K) with hardware video encoding via Apple VideoToolbox.
• Compose mathematical formulas with LaTeX-backed Tex and MathTex mobjects — the LaTeX engine is bundled, no internet needed.
• Auto-detect every Scene class in your file with the built-in scene picker.
• Preview the rendered video the moment manim finishes — saved as MP4 to the Files app or shared to Photos, AirDrop, Mail.

WHAT'S BUNDLED
manim, numpy, scipy, sympy, matplotlib, plotly, PyAV, Cairo, and a full LaTeX engine.

ManimStudio works entirely offline. No account, no telemetry, no internet required.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.3 — 2026-06-08

Version 1.3 — a big iPhone update, plus speed and polish across the board.

• Redesigned for iPhone: a native bottom tab bar, the workspace now opens straight to the code editor, and tactile haptic feedback throughout.

• Make it yours: pick a custom accent color that retints the whole app.

• Faster everywhere: the Packages browser and code autocomplete now open instantly.

• Smarter editor: full offline autocomplete for Manim, NumPy, SciPy, SymPy, Matplotlib and more, the moment you start typing.

• Flexible output: export as MP4, GIF, or HTML, with separate preview and final quality, frame rate, and an adjustable terminal font.

• Fixes & polish: animated GIF saving, accurate version info, and a range of stability improvements.

Thanks for using Manim Animation Studio — rendered entirely on-device, fully offline.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-02

Korean and Simplified Chinese text in Text() mobjects now renders correctly (Noto Sans SC/KR bundled).
UTF-8 file I/O fixes Unicode crashes in third-party libraries.
LaTeX: math fractions with nested subscripts no longer silently drop braces.
HTTPS works on first try — requests, urllib3, certifi and friends are bundled.
Bundled extras: mpmath, PyYAML, jsonschema, attrs, fsspec, filelock, regex, fontTools.
Preview pane plays any render size or length reliably (new WKWebView-based player).
Copy buttons show a "Copied" confirmation when tapped.
Renders keep going briefly when you switch apps or lock the screen.

### 1.1 — 2026-05-27

certain MathTex expressions containing \frac{X}{Y} (where X ends in }) failed to render. LaTeX routing now matches the underlying library's default — simple expressions go through SwiftMath, complex/CJK content through xelatex.

### 1.0 — 2026-05-27

No release notes.
