### 4/5 — Some good some bad

*2015-08-05*

The extra long list of what is around us seems to take in several states. Perhaps countries. Colorado likely has no red deer. Elk yes. Red deer seem to be European. Not likely to see armadillo here either. But I do like that it keeps a list of what I do see. Thus I will keep it.

### 4/5 — Great for leaning locals

*2015-06-09*

Could use a better search by features and a folder for spiders and beetles, but great for all around general identification. It's a great small app.

Please get the spiders up in an update sometime though. I would pay a few bucks for a good local spider identifier app

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Don't buy it bad

*2022-03-07, version 2.0.7*

worst app ever 🤮🏳️‍🌈

### 1/5 — Denali species list was terrible

*2019-07-05*

None of the big mammals were listed as options to drop on the map. Disappointing.

### 1/5 — Great idea falls way short.

*2015-12-17*

I live in Hawaii - but this so says no turtles and no trees - really???

### 1/5 — Location services "always on" huge turn-off

*2015-05-20*

You do not need to track me/my device when I am not using the app. I won't use an app that requires this. Please make it your number one priority to offer the "only while using" option in your very next release. Thank you.

### 2/5 — Missing species and inaccuracies

*2023-08-07*

I was very disappointed in this app. For example the deer Colorado, Colorado has an abundant population of mule deer, only the white tailed deer listed as deers of Colorado. I looked up other areas to find similar discrepancies regarding other species. Very disappointing

### 2/5 — Recommended? Heck No.

*2018-08-22*

Where the heck are moose, grizzly bear, wolf, and caribou from Denali national park’s map? Where the heck are ANY mammals from the recommended map? Why does the app crash when I send a bug report? Why is this a recommended app if it doesn’t have basic nature guide essentials like this?

Pass on this. I downloaded the app hoping for something to help log sightings while out, but this app’s functionality offline is horrendous. The references it uses aren’t bad, which is why it gets more than 1 star but there is so much missing info.

So I saw several grizzly bear on my trip into the park today, but I didn’t get cell service until after I got back to the station. No big deal, let me search for the animal. Oh there it is, but wait; near me? No it was 15 miles in, but wait, it’s centered on me now? Let me move the pin, oh wait I can’t move the pin.

What nonsense.id rather I bought a field guide book than use this app.

### 2/5 — Nice idea, terrible data

*2015-07-23*

Incomplete and incorrect species makes it worse than useless.

### 2/5 — Missing important information!

*2015-06-01, version 1.2*

I live in the Wet Tropics if FNQ and the most common Fauna I come across besides birds are arachnids (spiders etc) and reptiles - neither of which seem to be featured in this app! Useless!

### 3/5 — Not yet a reliable source

*2017-07-09*

The photo submissions are not well vetted (see Black Oak) and the app cites Wikipedia.

### 3/5 — Good idea

*2015-07-24*

Not accurate

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The coolest app you never knew you needed

*2020-10-22*

Where do I begin on Map of Life... it is amazing!🌱 But then I am curious about the natural world around me. There are so many ways to learn more with this amazing application. I personally love that you can keep records of animals and plants around you! I have so much to learn to help understand Earth and my relationship with it, and it just got a whole lot easier! 🌸Thank you for such an amazing resource and tool. I am absolutely blown away by its intuitiveness, ease of use and the layout... thank you! 🌱

### 5/5 — Great app

*2019-04-28*

The App is perfect! Exactly what i wanted!

### 5/5 — Clever idea for an app

*2016-05-08*

Works fine for me. Definitely can't wait to use it on a hike!

### 5/5 — Very good Nature app!

*2015-07-20*

I really enjoy this app. It makes it easy to find animals in my area, and learn more about them. I like the UI and it helps having many pictures attached to the animal "profile"

### 5/5 — So far, great, with one bug

*2015-07-12*

I've been looking for something like this. As far as I know, the comprehensive nature (across animal types etc. ), excellent implementation, and location dependence together are unique. The app is very well thought out and implemented so far. I do think its long term success will depend on how well it can share across other similar efforts.

Bug: Search for Species on iPhone6 iOS 8.3 does not work. Search button on keyboard does not do the enter function, it looks like.

### 5/5 — Fantastic app to see nature

*2015-07-07*

An easy to use app to identify the nature around you wherever you are. Unlike other natural history apps it spans across multiple groups (birds, mammals, trees) and has a great interface.

### 5/5 — Great idea, neat implementation

*2015-06-21*

Really wonderful how this app gives you a very well-done field-guide tailored to any location worldwide. I don't know of any other app that does that - something specific to that project it seems. You can also record your sightings straight in the app to share them with others and make them public. I think that full integration beats other efforts out there currently, and it has become my go-to naturalist app. Hope they add more groups and make it easier to use the app when away from a network. But already ... thanks!!!

### 5/5 — Well designed, very easy to use!

*2015-05-21*

This app is very helpful in identifying wildlife and trees without slogging through field guides that cover large geographical areas. My only suggestion is social media integration so that people can share wildlife that they've spotted and bring new users to the app.

### 4/5 — Excelente

*2018-03-03*

### 4/5 — Amazing app. Needs more info

*2015-08-07*

This app is amazing and is a great way to identify species when you travel. However the app needs more info put in. More species and such
