## What is Mapillary?

Mapillary is the street-level imagery platform that scales and automates mapping using collaboration, cameras, and computer vision.

Anyone can capture images of any place, as often as needed, with any camera—including smartphones. Mapillary combines all images into a collaborative street-level view of the world that’s available for anyone to explore and use for improving maps, cities, and mobility. Computer vision technology provides a smooth viewing experience and speeds up mapping through machine-extracted map data.

Capturing with the Mapillary mobile app is the easiest way to join our contributor network. Let’s get started!

CREATE YOUR OWN STREET-LEVEL VIEWS

### 1/5 — Can’t stop and resume uploads - bad design

*2026-05-15*

With huge uploads the are trying to encourage why wouldn’t they at least try to allow some sort of pausing and resuming. Terrible waste of bandwidth to start a large upload, lose a little coverage and have to start over every time.

### 5/5 — App incroyable

*2026-05-09, version 6.11.0*

Appli incroyable beaucoup plus complète que Google map, c’est fou que ça soit si peu connu mais qu’il y ait autant de données disponible

### 4/5 — A lot of capabilities in a simple mobile app

*2026-03-18*

Mapillary has made mapping for OpenStreetMap so much easier, with such little barrier to entry. All I do is launch the app and boom I can record streets, roads, and paths in record time. My only complaint is not being able to continue uploads in the background, now that iOS 26 supports that kind of task. Other than that though, the app is super handy and the Mapillary integration into all my tools is a great asset.

### 4/5 — Ganz gut zum Aufnehmen

*2025-09-09, version 6.6.3*

### 5/5 — Love the improvements over the past year.

*2025-01-22*

Much less crashes now.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your feedback, we're glad to hear the Mapillary app is working well for you - and thank you for being a part of the Mapillary community!

### 3/5 — Getting better

*2024-06-23, version 6.0.0*

The 6/20/2024 refresh is a bit more attractive than the previous release.

The Mapillary Missions have gone away. Too bad but they never seemed fully implemented.

The x button to exit some screens seems a bit more reliable.

Still hoping for the ability to start/stop recording by clicking the volume button rather than tapping an on-screen button.

Note: The 6/20 refresh kept crashing when it first appeared on my iPhone. I had to delete, reinstall, and login again. Since then it’s been stable.

### 5/5 — Good, I guess

*2024-06-19*

Reinstalling the app fixed the issue, review updated

Original:
main issue rn is it looks like the profile screen UI got updated and whenever I try to view it, it flashes for a second with all the data still loading and then it just crashes

**Developer response:** Hi Justin, could you try uninstalling the app and then re-installing it from the app store? If that fixes the issue we would appreciated an updated review and rating. If not, could you please email us at support@mapillary.zendesk.com with what iPhone you are using?

### 3/5 — Interface a bit crude

*2024-06-09*

Interface really needs a refresh and a thick coat of polish. Too many times that I thought I triggered the camera on or off, and no nothing happened. Would help a lot if I could trigger that using the volume button as one an with Apple’s own x camera app. Also, returning from panels back to the main interface requires tapping a small X which most of the time it ignores you so you end up tapping 5 times and now and again you have to just force quit and restart. Also, this app absolutely kills my phone battery.

Edit: a couple months later… there’s been an update and the interface is maybe a bit cleaner. But now it crashes regularly when I tap the profile icon at lower right if I have recently uploaded photos processing.

**Developer response:** Hi rbs, thank you for your feedback.

1. We have updated the UX to a brand new experience - please let us know your thoughts - we would appreciate your updated review and rating.
2. Thank you for the suggestion on the volume button capture - we expect to implement this in coming releases.
3. Thank you for the suggestions on making the "x" easier to tap - we expect to implement this in coming releases.
4. The phone battery problem is harder as taking imagery uses a lot of phone resources, but we are looking at improving this as well.

Thank you again!
