All I do is launch the app and boom I can record streets, roads, and paths in record time. My only complaint is not being able to continue uploads in the background, now that iOS 26 supports that kind of task. Other than that though, the app is super handy and the Mapillary integration into all my tools is a great asset. ### 4/5 — Ganz gut zum Aufnehmen *2025-09-09, version 6.6.3* Die Aufnahme selbst klappt ganz gut, bis auf das GPS, das beim Gehen etwas wackelig und sprunghaft ist. Vielleicht wäre da etwas smoothing ganz nett. Das Betrachten der Bilder klappt in der App leider nicht so gut. Aufgenommene, also nur lokal verfügbare Bilder können nicht gezoomt werden und beim Hochladen sind die Bilder solange nicht verfügbar, bis sie nach 2-3 Tagen auf dem Server fertig verarbeitet wurden. ### 3/5 — Getting better *2024-06-23, version 6.0.0* The 6/20/2024 refresh is a bit more attractive than the previous release. The Mapillary Missions have gone away. Too bad but they never seemed fully implemented. The x button to exit some screens seems a bit more reliable. Still hoping for the ability to start/stop recording by clicking the volume button rather than tapping an on-screen button. Note: The 6/20 refresh kept crashing when it first appeared on my iPhone. I had to delete, reinstall, and login again. Since then it’s been stable. ### 3/5 — Interface a bit crude *2024-06-09* Interface really needs a refresh and a thick coat of polish. Too many times that I thought I triggered the camera on or off, and no nothing happened. Would help a lot if I could trigger that using the volume button as one an with Apple’s own x camera app. Also, returning from panels back to the main interface requires tapping a small X which most of the time it ignores you so you end up tapping 5 times and now and again you have to just force quit and restart. Also, this app absolutely kills my phone battery. Edit: a couple months later… there’s been an update and the interface is maybe a bit cleaner. But now it crashes regularly when I tap the profile icon at lower right if I have recently uploaded photos processing. **Developer response:** Hi rbs, thank you for your feedback. 1. If not, could you please email us at support@mapillary.zendesk.com with what iPhone you are using? ### 3/5 — Viele tolle Trails, Oberfläche naja *2024-04-14, version 5.9.0* Also: toll ist, dass es sehr sehr sehr viele Straßen und vor allem nicht per PKW befahrbare Wege gibt, die ich mir ansehen kann. Tolle Nutzerbasis, top. Leider ist das Interface nicht besonders. Vor allem als Apple User ist die Bedienung wie vor einem Jahrzehnt. Was mir fehlt ist die Möglichkeit viel Share Screen oder Kurzbefehl Koordinaten zu übergeben. Beispiel: ich sehe mir in Apple Maps, eine Straße an, vielleicht ein Park oder ein Waldstück. Dort, wo die Straße ändert, würde ich gerne wissen, wie es weitergeht. Hier würde ich gerne eine Stecknadel setzen und die Koordinaten an Mapillary senden, um dort direkt einzusteigen, statt erst noch ewig rumsuchen zu müssen. ### 3/5 — Interface a bit crude *2024-03-17* Interface really needs a refresh and a thick coat of polish. Although I can see the Mapillary folder in iTunes when I tried to save it on my Windows laptop, nothing happens. I switched to my MacBook Pro 14” (ios16.c.c) and simply tried to drag drop the Mapillary folder directly from Findersnd again nothing happens. The Dowload did not start. My 64Gb iPhone is now full and I can’t get the images off the phone to clear up some space. I’m travelling in Iceland right now and have captured imaging footage but I can’t continue anymore as the phone’s storage is full and there’s not enough time in hotels to upload the images fast enough ready for the next day. This is so bloody annoying. ### 2/5 — Cannot log in any more. *2022-10-13, version 5.4.3* Email domain does not end in com/net/org, so app does not accept account as valid. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Can’t stop and resume uploads - bad design *2026-05-15* With huge uploads the are trying to encourage why wouldn’t they at least try to allow some sort of pausing and resuming. Terrible waste of bandwidth to start a large upload, lose a little coverage and have to start over every time. ### 1/5 — Não adiciona ao OSMand *2024-02-04, version 5.9.0* O OSMand me indicou este app, por isso pensei que com ele poderia adicionar fotos a ele. Depois que percebi o erro tentei excluirminja conta do Mapilary, porém para confirmar a exclusão tenho que digitar a minha senha, que para o app está sempre errada. На ноуте совсем сайт не открываетсЯ, на Айфоне не показывает точки съёмки, на адроиде не показывает фото ### 1/5 — Grundsätzlich gut *2023-09-06, version 5.8.3* Mittlerweile eine gute App um Bild-Strecken anzufertigen und diese dann später für die Allgemeinheit zur Verfügung zu stellen. Einige Sachen sind aber noch Verbesserungswürdig. Das Dimmen des Displays funktioniert eher selten von Beginn... Eher nur wenn eine Fehlermeldung für Überhitzung angezeigt wurde und man dann weiter fort fährt... Eventuell kann man die Fehlermeldungen auch optional deaktivieren... Die Überhitzungswarnung kommt zwangsläufig wenn man gleichzeitig lädt... Allerdings wird die Qualität der Bilder nicht beeinträchtigt... Also könnte man diese auch gut weg lassen... Bei solchen Meldungen muss man immer manuell klicken... Was den Vorgang unnötig bis zur Bestätigung unterbricht... Und je nach Installation des Mobilgeräts auch schwierig zu handhaben ist... Einen Filter nach Erstellungsdatum wie auf der Website wäre auch wünschenswert... Der Farbliche Filter ist zwar nett aber trotzdem unübersichtlich da die Grünen Bilder auf der Karte mitunter unter den Orangen und roten liegen und damit verschwinden... Leider muss ich heute komplett abwerten da die App das Handy mittlerweile soweit uberhitzt das es in den Hitzeschutz verfällt und nichts mehr geht bis es sich ausreichend abgekühlt hat... Damit ist die App leider unbrauchbar geworden... 😩 ### 1/5 — Beim ersten anmelden schon zu oft probiert *2023-02-08, version 5.6.0* Angeblich habe ich es zu oft probiert und soll es später noch mal probieren das war allerdings mein aller erster Versuch. ### 1/5 — Meh *2022-12-02, version 5.5.4* Keine iPad Version Kann nicht ohne Login zum Karten betrachten benutzt werden Bricht im Hintergrund laufende Podcasts ab ### 1/5 — Can’t log in ever *2022-10-25* Keep resetting my password then type it in but can never get past the login screen. I keep getting an error message when trying to log in. ** Update ** The developer asked me to look at the app again and re-rate it. I appreciate the fact that they are interested and I can now login. But that’s the extent of my success. It is a confusing app with a bunch of icons that don’t seem to do anything or what they do is a mystery. For example you press one button and it changes some things from green to orange. But I don’t understand why. There’s other icons that tell you that you are now in some kind of beta test. But it’s not readily apparent why the map changed or what the difference is. It doesn’t find businesses, and basic navigation doesn’t work. I type in an address to a known location and it finds that location provides no method of navigation to that location. I frankly don’t see the point to this app other than that they want you to take pictures of the area for them for free. ** more updates ** I see some from other reviews that they are now owned by Facebook. That kills it for me I’ll have nothing to do with them. **Developer response:** Hi there bkarlan, it looks like you might be looking for a navigation app like Apple Maps or Google Maps. Mapillary is a different kind of app used for creating maps and map data by capturing street level imagery. Sorry for the confusion and hope you find what you are looking for! ### 1/5 — Sequence locked” bug since at least June 2021 *2022-10-02, version 5.4.2* Since summer 2021, random upload attempts fail, “sequence locked” message (iOS and Android) prevents sequence access or upload. Literally, start camera, move with camera pointed right way, upload and voila you made new map data. Get creative and mount on any vehicle or transport mode or create a multi cam rig. Data flows beautifully into lots of advanced analysis tools.
