## What is map.ping?

map.ping turns your saved Google My Maps into proximity alerts. Import a map of the places you care about — restaurants to try, shops, viewpoints, a trip itinerary — and map.ping pings you when you come near one, even when the app is closed.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Import a Google My Map — paste an "anyone with the link" map link, import a .kml/.kmz file you exported, or just tap Share on a map in Google My Maps and pick map.ping.
2. Set your alert radius.
3. Go about your day. map.ping quietly watches your location and sends a notification when you come near a saved place.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

• Your maps and location never leave your device. No account, no sign-in, no tracking.
• Nothing about where you go is uploaded — proximity is checked entirely on your phone.
• Private maps work too — export them as a file and import; the file never leaves your phone.

MADE FOR EXPLORERS

• See every place sorted by distance, with a map view of your alert radius.
• Tune it your way: alert radius, minimum distance before the same place alerts again, and quiet hours.
• Pause alerts anytime, and send a test alert to see how it feels.
• Battery-aware background scanning — GPS ramps up only while you're moving.

FREE & PRO

• Free: keep 1 map.
• Pro (one-time purchase, no subscription): keep more maps and have them all active at once.

Great for travelers, foodies following a "places to try" list, real-estate hunting, road trips, and anyone who saves spots in Google My Maps and wants a nudge when they're close.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.4 — 2026-07-23

• Add your own pins - save a place at your current location to any map, and get pinged when you're back near it.
• Export & share - send any map (your pins included) as a KML file, to a friend or back into map.ping.
• Map link - when a map or list's description includes a website, one tap takes you there.
• Fixed: some shared Google list links failed to import.
• Your pins survive map refreshes.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-07-23

• Add your own pins - drop a place at your current location onto any map,
and get pinged when you're back near it.
• Export & share - send any map (your personal pins included) as a KML file,
to a friend or back into map.ping.
• Personal pins you add stay put when a map is refreshed.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-07-19

New in 1.0.2
• Import Google Maps lists — bring in any public shared list (saved restaurants, a trip, a friend's picks) from a link, and get pinged when you're near each spot.
• Share into map.Ping — send a Google My Maps or list link, or a .kml/.kmz file, straight from any app.

As always: no account, no servers — your maps and location stay on your device.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-07-05

• Layer filters: your map's layers now appear as tappable filters — show or hide each one, and get proximity alerts only for the layers you choose
• Open any imported map in Google My Maps with one tap
• Choose your navigation app: Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze
• Smoother dense maps with pin clustering, full right-to-left support

### 1.0 — 2026-06-18
