## What is Mapsake?

Turn years of travel photos into a living atlas.

Mapsake builds a private travel map of the places you've visited, lived, and want to see next. Start with your photo library, import the travel history you already have, or add places yourself, then explore it all on a beautiful 3D globe.

Completely free. No ads. No account. No tracking. Your core travel data stays on your device.

BUILD YOUR MAP FAST
• Find visited countries, regions, cities, and airports from your photo library. Photo dates and locations are processed on your device.
• Build your first map from Photos in one clear step, then add any other source whenever you want.
• Import from Immich, Nomads, Skratch, Visited, Flighty, FlightRadar24, ForeFlight, Tripsy, Polarsteps, and Airbnb.
• Search a bundled offline gazetteer with more than 230,000 places.
• Scan a passport stamp and confirm the suggested country.
• Back up, restore, and export your data as JSON, CSV, Excel, or HTML.

EXPLORE A LIVING ATLAS
• Switch between Visited, Lived, Next, and Combined lenses.
• Zoom from a satellite globe to countries, regions, cities, and airports.
• Recolor your map by photo count, recency, or days on the ground.
• Open any mapped place to revisit its photos, dates, notes, and story.

LIGHT UP THE WORLD WITH MAPLIGHT
• Turn Apple Photos and Immich metadata into permanent illuminated discoveries, without background GPS.
• See estimated land coverage, countries, origins, source breakdowns, yearly history, and a chronological reveal reel.
• Keep exact Maplight data private. Share totals with friends or separately opt into a generalized public view.

FIND THE PHOTO YOU REMEMBER
• Photo Explorer searches mapped photos by place, year, camera, source, note, elevation, speed, favorites, screenshots, and edits.
• Use everyday phrases, browse automatic collections, search a map area, follow a timeline, save searches, and organize with private tags and ratings.
• Search and organization happen on your device.

YOUR TRAVEL PASSPORT
• Share polished cards for countries, continents, flags, time spent, Travel DNA, body clock, and more.
• Create a looping globe reel, a shaded data map, or an annual Rewind.
• Filter cards by region and year, then choose your own colors.
• Turn your timeline into editable trips with names, notes, dates, cover photos, split and merge controls, and shareable Trip Capsules.
• Unlock more than 200 achievements, including geographic, photo, and history milestones from every region of the world.

MEMORIES, CONNECTED
• Relive On This Day and Then & Now.
• Choose an Atlas Digest for important discoveries, a weekly memory roundup, daily On This Day reminders, or no notifications.
• Constellations privately finds visual threads between photos from distant places and turns them into an explorable sky and match-cut film.
• Keep favorite photos and private notes for the places that matter most.

TRAVEL TOGETHER, PRIVATELY
• Invite a friend with a link, QR code, or nearby sharing.
• Compare maps, continents, and shared achievements.
• Choose which travel lenses each friend can see and stop sharing at any time.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.11.6 — 2026-08-21

PRIVATE PASSPORTS, SAFER RETURN VISITS, AND SMARTER TRIPS
Opt in to scan a supported ePassport chip entirely offline, inspect its private Passport Era, keep it only for the current view or save an encrypted on-device keepsake, and share a carefully censored card image. Clearer code-line guidance and safer App Lock handling make scanning more reliable.

App Lock now supports immediate, 1, 5, 15, or 60-minute return delays, starts Face ID or Touch ID automatically when an unlock is required, and can protect exports with a Mapsake PIN.

Parks & Heritage boundaries now work in Atlas, friend comparisons, and public maps. Add a return visit as a separate dated occurrence; photo imports distinguish nearby cities more accurately; trip details can show exact-date photos, distances, and clearly labeled flight-time estimates. Country area facts and more flexible Map & Stats and World Clock widgets round out the update.

Thank you to Andreas for the detailed ideas, examples, and bug reports behind these improvements.

### 1.11.5 — 2026-08-20

APP LOCK AND AUDITED CAPITAL AIRPORTS
Lock Mapsake with Face ID, Touch ID, or a device-only PIN at launch and whenever you leave the app. App Lock also covers the app switcher without changing or encrypting travel data.

Every capital's practical passenger gateway was audited against annual traffic and current official operations, including airports outside city limits. Corrections include Beijing Capital, Dakar Blaise Diagne, Kyiv Boryspil, Luanda's new Dr. António Agostinho Neto, Nadi for Suva, and Palmerola for Tegucigalpa. Sri Lanka and South Georgia capital references were also corrected.

Repeat visits added later from photos continue to stay separate in Travel History without changing existing names, notes, dates, or manual/imported data.

Thank you to Andreas for the detailed reports and country-data corrections behind this update.

### 1.11.4 — 2026-08-19

TRAVEL HISTORY YOU CAN TRUST
Splitting an imported trip now keeps each exact group of cities separate. Removing a city from one trip stays corrected after reopening or syncing, without changing its manual or imported place data.

Deleting a trip now keeps places that are still used by another saved trip, and the confirmation clearly explains this protection.

Thank you, Andreas, for the careful report that led to these data-safety improvements.

### 1.11.2 — 2026-08-18

TRAVEL ESSENTIALS FOR EVERY COUNTRY
Tap any country in Atlas, even one you have not marked, to see its capital time, currency, languages, calling code, internet domain, driving side, emergency numbers, electricity, capital-area airport, plug diagrams, and on-device sunrise and sunset times. Optional current weather sends only the bundled capital coordinate when enabled.

TRAVEL HISTORY THAT KEEPS YOUR DATA INTACT
Travel History now recognizes older photo evidence stored as individual presence days. Matching photo stops can appear with the correct imported trip while its saved name, notes, dates, membership, and manually entered places remain unchanged.

MORE PRECISE ICLOUD RECOVERY
CloudKit partial failures now follow their individual record errors. Mapsake retries genuinely temporary failures without hiding account, permission, schema, or validation problems, and stale interrupted-transfer warnings clear after recovery.

THANK YOU, ANDREAS
Thank you to Andreas for the detailed diagnostics and thoughtful country preparation and plug-reference ideas behind this update.

### 1.11.1 — 2026-08-17

TIME ZONES IN ATLAS
Turn on Time Zones from the Atlas map menu to explore an interactive 2D world map colored by the current local time. Every zone slice now shows its live time and UTC offset. Search, pan, zoom, let the map move automatically when idle, and optionally show political boundaries. The controls share one row, and tapping a city pin scrolls its clock into view.

YOUR PLACES OR THE WHOLE WORLD
Browse countries and cities you have visited or lived in, or switch to every country and more than 234,000 offline cities. Country pages show each city and its current local time. The map keeps performance predictable with up to 100 population-ranked city pins, while search and country pages reach the full catalog. Viewing time zones never changes your saved places.

REMOVE FRIENDS SAFELY
Open a friend's page to remove them with confirmation. Mapsake clears their activity and syncs the removal across your devices without changing your places or your own shared map.

TRAVEL WORLD CLOCK WIDGET
Add the new medium or large Travel World Clock widget to see your Visited and Lived countries, three rotating city clocks, country progress, and the moving day-and-night boundary. Map and Stats widgets now keep the whole country visible when regional detail is enabled, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.
