## What is Mari?

Mari (茉莉) is a full-featured Chinese dictionary built for Japanese speakers learning Mandarin. Direct Japanese⇄Chinese translations and pinyin, plus English definitions — for the moments when English is the fastest way to grasp a Chinese word, no app switching needed. Handwriting input included, and everything runs offline, on your device.

◆ Japanese⇄Chinese and English→Chinese dictionary
An original Japanese↔Chinese translation layer synthesized from CC-CEDICT, JMdict, and Wiktionary — matching kanji forms (simplified, traditional, Japanese shinjitai) and English glosses to link the two languages directly.

◆ Pinyin and HSK everywhere
Pinyin on every word, with HSK 3.0 levels shown inline so you always know what to learn next.

◆ Handwriting input
Draw characters with your finger. Two on-device engines — substroke analysis and OCR — merge their candidates for accurate recognition.

◆ Example sentences
Real sentences from the Tatoeba project. Tap any word inside an example to look it up instantly.

◆ Character bridge
Per-character simplified / traditional / Japanese forms, with tappable on'yomi that opens every character sharing that reading, grouped by Mandarin final.

◆ Word list & TTS
Bookmark words for later review, and hear headwords and example sentences with offline text-to-speech.

All dictionary data is openly licensed (CC-CEDICT, JMdict/EDRDG, Tatoeba, Unihan, Wiktionary) with full attributions in the app. No data collection, no ads, no tracking.
