## What is MarkWell?

MarkWell is a native bookmark manager for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Save links from anywhere, organize them with tags, and find them again later — across all your devices, with no separate account to manage.

SAVE FROM ANYWHERE
Share any URL from Safari, Mail, Messages, or any other app, straight into MarkWell using the system share sheet. The app fetches the page's title and favicon for you, so the bookmark looks right the moment it lands.

TAGS, NOT FOLDERS
Tag a link with as many ideas as it has. Filter the sidebar by tag to find things by mood, topic, or project — whatever sticks in your head. No nested folders to maintain, no rigid structure to fight against.

SYNCED THROUGH YOUR OWN ICLOUD
Bookmarks sync end-to-end through your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework. There is no MarkWell account, no MarkWell server, and no analytics. Your data stays under your Apple ID, and the same bookmark you save on your iPhone shows up on your Mac a few seconds later.

PRIVACY-FIRST
MarkWell collects nothing. The only network call the app makes on its own is to read the title and favicon of a URL when you save it. There are no third-party SDKs, no advertising, no telemetry. The privacy policy at bendansby.com/apps/markwell/privacy.html spells it out in detail.

REQUIREMENTS
- Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma or later
- iPhone or iPad running iOS / iPadOS 17 or later
- Optional: iCloud account for cross-device sync (works fully offline without one)

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-08-15

• Delete All Bookmarks — Settings now has a Danger Zone with a one-tap way to clear your entire library, behind a confirmation that shows exactly how many bookmarks will go and warns that iCloud sync will carry the deletion to your other devices.
• Fixed: long titles no longer clip — the title field in the add/edit bookmark form now grows to fit multi-line titles instead of scrolling off to the side.
• Fixed: a few Settings and menu items were showing up in English regardless of your language — now translated everywhere MarkWell is.

### 1.1.9 — 2026-08-14

• Netscape HTML export — Export Bookmarks now offers two formats: JSON (the lossless MarkWell backup, unchanged) and Netscape HTML, the universal format every browser and bookmark manager reads.
• Duplicate warnings when importing — importing a file that overlaps with your existing library now shows how many bookmarks are already saved, with the choice to skip them, import everyone anyway, or cancel.
• Fixed: titles with dashes, curly quotes, or other special characters written as HTML entities now decode correctly when importing instead of showing up as literal text.

### 1.1.6 — 2026-08-12

• Duplicate-bookmark warnings — save a link you already have, and MarkWell lets you know right in the New Bookmark form, and from the share sheet.
• iPad: drag and drop a link onto the MarkWell window to save it, description and tag suggestions included.

### 1.1.4 — 2026-08-02

• Duplicate-bookmark warnings — save a link you already have, and MarkWell lets you know right in the New Bookmark form, and from the share sheet on Mac and iPhone/iPad.

### 1.1.3 — 2026-07-04

• Smarter tag suggestions — reuse the tags you already have, and new ones are clearly marked.
• Favicons no longer fetch in the background — they're captured when you save a bookmark.
