Patients must use the website to log in. Not a big problem, but the description of the app makes it seem like anyone can use it, and that doesn’t seem to be true. ### 3/5 — Will not scan *2023-10-10* First time the face scan worked. Consecutive times the face scan did not work. ### 2/5 — Disappointed *2022-06-19* I was so enthused by the knowledge of such an app, but I am highly disappointed in the lack of essential questions in determining an appropriate mask. For example, I am a side sleeper, and due to significant back injuries, there is no alternative for me. Nor is side sleeping even an option in MaskFit AR‘s questionnaire. I also sleep with my mouth open, and that, too, is not possible to modify. These two issues are significantly important in choosing an appropriate mask, and I am stunned that they are not even listed as possibilities to select. One question asks a patient’s preferred sleep position, and the only three choices are a) restless (!!!), b) prone, c) back. Side sleeping is not even listed as a possibility, but should always be considered in determining an appropriate mask. I am certain that no one would choose restless as a sleeping position, and prone is questionable/non-descriptive as an option as well. Alas, i gleaned absolutely no help whatsoever from this app. What a brilliant idea, but definitely needs to be better developed, as the potential with the artificial intelligence seems quite significant. Our questionnaire was developed though a collaboration between experienced sleep specialists, clinicians, and therapists. The reason why the question "Are you a mouth breather?" is not part of our assessment is because most people who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea are mouth breathers when untreated because they are struggling to breathe at night. The natural response to shortness of breath is to mouth breathe, however, once the sleep apnea is treated through CPAP then the majority of individuals return to nasal breathing. People are obligate nose breathers unless if they are anatomically, physiologically, or medically compromised with breathing. This is why our questionnaire was developed in this manner. Basically the app is worthless without an account. Never got in and deleting app. Don’t waste your time. **Developer response:** Sorry that you had trouble with the sign up. Sometimes the email servers block or forward verification emails to the Spam folder. Please try again and see if it shows up in the Spam. The MaskFit AR Team ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work *2021-08-29* After trying way too many times to scan my face, I got a “successful scan”. And after inputting my info and answering questions that basically tell the app that I can’t use nose pillows, the only results I received were all nose pillow masks. There is also a section we’re you can select which mask you are currently using and it doesn’t even show my mask in the list of results and I use a very popular face mask. I wouldn’t recommend this app, it’s does nothing but bait you into creating an account to get your information. **Developer response:** We're sorry to hear that our app did not show your existing mask in the list. Seems like just a ploy to gather medical information. ### 1/5 — Predatory, Misleading, and a Complete Scam – Avoid at All Costs! *2025-01-08* MaskFit AR is a disgraceful cash grab that provides zero value to consumers and engages in outright deceptive practices. The app promises to scan your face and help you find a well-fitted mask, but here’s the truth: it harvests your biometric data under a vague and misleading privacy policy while demanding extensive personal information upfront. After collecting your sensitive data, the app refuses to show any results unless you pay a $10 fee just to view the results—results that should have been disclosed prior to payment. This paywall is not disclosed clearly beforehand, making the entire process feel like a bait-and-switch scam. It’s misleading, predatory, and seems more focused on profiting from personal data collection rather than actually providing a functional service. Apps like this should not be allowed on the App Store. Apple needs to take action and remove MaskFit AR immediately to protect consumers from data exploitation and financial scams. ### 1/5 — Not ready for prime time... *2023-12-26* It is concerning when an app, particularly one without a reputation, requires users to sign up before trying it out. While it is possible to create an account with a disposable email, the issue is that users should have the option to bypass the sign-up process. With biometric security, creating an account should be optional and can lead to security breaches or problems. This is something that Cox needs to be address. Furthermore, we shouldn’t be alpha or beta testers. Users should have option to opt-out of the sign up process but even folks in Switzerland don't care much about privacy or the vulnerable are taken advantage by hype. Additionally, who really knows what background data the app harvests. The concept is good but not the app or tech at this time. I'll stay with the traditional method of trying different masks at a sleep clinic or ordering from online stores that offer free returns and full refunds (not store credits). Finally, this app isn't available on the other platform for tablets. ### 1/5 — Need to purchase before try *2023-12-24* Sign up for this app and pay before you can even try it. ### 1/5 — Not helpful *2023-09-01* It is concerning when an app, particularly one without a reputation, requires users to sign up before trying it out. While it is possible to create a temporary account, the issue is that users should have the option to bypass the sign-up process. With biometric security, this requirement is redundant and can lead to problems. This is something that needs to be addressed. And no. I'm not going to send you an email to authentic me. I intend to be anonymous. Until then, the traditional method of trying different masks at a sleep clinic or ordering from online stores that offer free returns and full refunds (not store credits) remains the best option. Some sleep stores force customers to buy from them by only offering store credits, even if they do not have the desired mask and charge inflated prices compared to online sleep stores in the USA. I'm more impressed with the AI marketing hype. ### 1/5 — Could never get the camera to initialize *2023-04-29* Tried several times on my Iphone and Ipad to get it to initialize the camera. Nothing! Called the number for help three times only to be told someone would return my call shortly….that was two days ago! ### 1/5 — Not useful *2022-07-26* It mostly recommended nasal pillow masks, which aren’t appropriate for severe sleep apnea. Even when I went back to the patient profile to try to get rid of those recommendations by saying I had chronic nasal congestion, deviated septum, and seasonal allergies, it still recommended the same nasal pillow masks. There’s no way to filter out suggestions you don’t like, or pick a mask type and see which of those fits you best, or look up a specific mask and see how well it matches your measurements. Just a list of recommendations I can’t use, and of course it required a lot of personal information before it would show them to me. **Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback. White beard and mustache. ### 1/5 — Truly awful app *2022-04-20* Had high hopes to use the app to suggest a better mask choice. Unfortunately, the app falls short on so many levels. Created a profile by answering a bunch of questions. Then, had to repeat the process. Not sure what happened to the first set of responses. UI is non-intuitive and ugly. The key feature…3d face scan… didn’t work. Tried to follow the prompts to get a good scan, and when I finally succeeded, it seemed to have lost the result plus the profiles I typed in twice. Don’t waste your time with this app. They need to scrap it and start over with a new sw development team and design management. ### 1/5 — Needs more work *2022-03-19* During the registration process it verifies if you’re new to CPAP or currently using. I feel the app is better suited for new users. I have been using a nasal mask for a year and want to switch to a full face mask because I keep breathing through my mouth. The app should ask if you have a preference on mask style. I have tried so many masks. Went to my local DME company and they recommended this to me. The app was spot on. The mask it choose for me has made such a big difference with my CPAP. I am finally feeling better and having great results.
