### 2/5 — Wolf of Wall Street knock off

*2026-08-19, version 2.1.2*

Ever see the movie? This is a knock off. Sales folks are knocking on your door to invest invest invest. Then watch your portfolio drop year after year. If you have throw-away money to laugh about at parties this is the scheme for you. If you really want an investment hedge different than the stock market then move on.

### 2/5 — Has gotten worse with time

*2026-01-31, version 1.2.189*

You cannot track your portfolio, see your cost basis, see the art you've invested in easily.

The updates to app are built around spammy features to get you to buy more art. But they'd accomplish that better by making this a true investment platform for people serious about allocating to art.

Disappointing and am stopping most activity here. Wouldn't recommend it.

### 1/5 — Login broken

*2025-12-16, version 1.2.185*

Can’t login. “Restart cookie” issue.

### 1/5 — Technically flawed

*2025-12-06, version 1.2.183*

Unfortunately the installation failed multiple times and not for the lack of trying. Given how hard masterworks tries to push users to download the app, a different performance should be expected

### 2/5 — It’s not the IRS…but

*2025-11-14*

Terrible user interface. Terrible dashboard with minimal information on personal portfolio; which should be the homescreen information. Seems to focus more on new sales and new customers as opposed to providing a quality user experience for customers who already have a portfolio. As a point of annoyance, It’s very cluttered, which is sad considering it’s an art platform. Go figure that out. Verizon Wireless UI is superior, if you need a similar, but much better comparison.

### 1/5 — Huh? The app is so bad

*2025-11-09, version 1.2.180*

This app used to be straightforward. I could easily see my investments. I have no idea what is going on now. I navigate through the app and it’s all about gamification and news stores? Could you imagine a big bank doing this? I can find my investments! What a mess.

### 1/5 — Mess

*2025-10-13, version 1.2.177*

This app, and business, has become a mess. I’ve been with them since the stray and don’t even know what’s happening on the app anymore. What a chaotic mess. Art quizzes? Really! I can’t even see what I have shares in anymore. Angry at this mess.

### 1/5 — Investors beware

*2025-10-07*

In what world does it make sense for an investment app to proactively remove your Portfolio screen from the app. They seem to be actively hiding the fact that the value of the investments are rarely getting appraised and when it does, the assets are all falling in value and they rarely ever sell paintings anymore. So you are stuck with a assets that they do not spend ANY effort providing updates on or future plans for, and now they even hide the dwindling value (it can only be found on web) and focus on stupid art quizzes and hyping up new assets that they’ll never speak about again once it’s its reached 100% inventment. BEFORE YOU INVEST, beware that you’ll never hear about your assets again - they’re 100% focused on getting more people to invest, not on managing or taking responsibility for the invested portfolio. I’m tempered to use the word scam but i think it’s just non-app people in leadership of a consumer app and they have no understanding of the core needs of their users.

### 2/5 — Liquidity scam

*2025-09-22*

For the most part t seems they’re just focused on buying anything and marking it up roughly 10% but maybe more to flip to the user base. The effort to find value is almost non-existent. The platforms become diluted with too many holdings and they rarely flip anything. Been on here for about 3 or 4 years and one holding out of 9 has flipped. The 5 year rule implies I probably should have flipped at least a 1/3rd of my portfolio by now. I’d take a soft pass on this app

### 1/5 — No portfolio

*2025-07-30, version 1.2.169*

This app no longer provides access to your portfolio. It requires you to log into the website. Any competent investing app, at minimum, should show your portfolio. Based on the overall performance of masterworks, it appears they are attempting to make you jump through hoops to see how poorly your portfolio is performing.

### 1/5 — Not worth the risk

*2025-06-12, version 1.2.162*

I’ve been invested in 2 artworks for the past few years and they have not showed any appreciation in value and I don’t see any way to sell the shares that people will buy at your asking prices. Also, taking into account inflation, value loss and their fees I’m in the negative at the least 20%

### 3/5 — Fix more bugs

*2025-05-17, version 1.2.159*

There are plenty of issues that shows in regular use that are hard to report. Completing the daily quiz is not possible one out of four times due to buttons rendering outside of the screen… really?!

### 1/5 — Look fast

*2025-04-02, version 1.2.151*

I’ve got no problem opening the app but within 15 seconds it crashes and closes itself. Opening it up again you might get 10 seconds and it crashes looks to be very unstable.

### 1/5 — White screen only

*2025-03-19, version 1.2.147*

Doesn’t work. App no longer does anything. It is a white screen brick on my phone

### 1/5 — Bad Investment - Not worth it

*2025-03-10*

I think they’re doing something to influence their ratings and make it higher. I’ve been invested with them since 2021 now. This is extremely difficult to liquidate. The shares lose value progressively and no one wants to buy them from you on the secondary market, even with the rapid value loss.

I wish they would be more transparent about the time horizon for this investment. It would help set expectations with their audience and mitigate a lot of the negative feedback. Their trading platform was down multiple months, as well. There’s a lot wrong with this platform and their concept. They send a ton of emails, and yet, communication is still somehow severely lacking.

### 1/5 — Scam

*2025-02-12, version 1.2.141*

I tried it with a small amount just to test the waters. Two years later, I’m down 12% and still can’t get my money out. Thank god I didn’t invest more.

### 1/5 — It’s just another way to money out of you rather than work for you

*2024-12-21, version 1.2.129*

Disrespectful Staff Unwilling to explain things unless you invest….Unprofessional !!!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Do not invest

*2026-07-02, version 2.0.12*

I invested 1k just to try this app out after hearing numerous podcasts talk about it. 3 years later I can’t even sell my shares at a major discount. I just want out, doesn’t seem like there is much transacting going on besides the people selling the paintings making the actual profit then your stuck with shares you can’t even trade..

### 1/5 — high fees and relentless spam

*2026-04-06, version 2.0.4*

i signed up for masterworks because friend recommended but after reviewing their fees decided against investing.

since then they've spam called me regularly despite me asking to be removed from
their list

the app and website don't let me update/remove my contact info.

sketchy af business practices, strongly discourage even signing up.

### 1/5 — Pretty worthless

*2026-03-27, version 2.0.4*

They’re slowly reducing app value - you can’t see portfolio performance anymore. Of course you can buy art on the app, but everything else is buried on the web. Super lame - telegraphing that no one (except them) is making any money here.

### 1/5 — Closed Secondary Market

*2026-03-12, version 2.0.1*

Today they emailed all investors and told us secondary market is no longer accessible, but to “call the sales” team. Final straw for me.

### 1/5 — Crashes every 10seconds

*2026-02-23, version 1.2.190*

Crashes

### 1/5 — Shady practices

*2026-02-17, version 1.2.190*

Misleading. They had a daily quiz that they just silently stopped. Who knows what else is going on under the hood.

### 1/5 — Bugs

*2026-02-09, version 1.2.190*

I can’t even sign on anymore because it glitches so much.

### 1/5 — Great idea poor execution

*2026-01-15, version 1.2.188*

Promised a lot in as platform but did not deliver much. Recommend staying away. Mad about stopping the art quiz also.

### 1/5 — Point less

*2026-01-09, version 1.2.187*

They won't sell your art they just hold your money

### 1/5 — Least liquid investment I have

*2025-12-22, version 1.2.185*

If you want to give them your money and have it sit for years and years, with little to no feedback, then this is your investment. Avoid this thing like the plague. I invested in 3 paintings 2.5 years ago, and to date, all I can see is that my paintings/portfolio have likely lost value. Finally, I have absolutely zero idea when they will sell, of ever. All of this on a red, hot stock market. Live and learn.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Start here

*2026-04-30, version 2.0.6*

Take the guesswork out of art trading and NFT art projects.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2025-08-22, version 1.2.172*

Makes it easy to invest in art, fractionally.

### 5/5 — Nice!!

*2024-11-17, version 1.2.124*

Nice!!

### 5/5 — Nice app

*2024-06-06, version 1.2.101*

Great app for investing in art. I’ve got (shares in) 2 Banksys so far. Easy to set up and purchase after all the formalities and checks have taken place. It could do with some security on login like Face ID or something

### 5/5 — 2nd review

*2024-05-22, version 1.2.99*

A+

### 5/5 — Easy Peasy

*2024-05-10, version 1.2.98*

It is an exciting way to own pieces of your favorite artists and being introduced to new soon to be favorites. That with investments at a reasonable price that will pay dividends in the future. Masterworks makes it easy.

### 5/5 — Know your investment strategy

*2024-04-02*

There are complaints and negative reviews I read about the illiquid nature of these holdings as well as the high fees involved. That is absolutely correct but no secret. This is not like public company stock investing. It’s much more akin to private venture investing - a long term hold with no control of the exit timeline. You have to go in with the right mindset and perspective. If that’s part of your investment strategy, then data shows that this asset class has historically performed quite well and is less correlated to general macro economic swings than most other asset classes. So it’s a pretty solid complement to a diversified portfolio.

### 5/5 — Solid customer experience

*2024-03-27*

I travel for a living almost weekly, and I had heard about this amazing new way to invest in Art works and diversify your portfolio with a potential hedge on inflation. It took me a few tries due to my schedule to get the call, and I appreciated their patience with my two missed scheduled calls. Once on they walked me through the big picture first to orient me to the approaches to help newbies like me with zero experience start with some intel and comfort in decision making. From there, the walked me through the setup process and my first trades before ensuring I was comfortable with self-service while also reminding me how to get help on any step need quickly. Well done MasterWorks entire team, well done!

### 5/5 — Great app, fun investing

*2024-03-20, version 1.2.91*

I like to diversify and love art and Masterworks has made it fun and easy

### 5/5 — Easy Peasy

It is an exciting way to own pieces of your favorite artists and being introduced to new soon to be favorites. That with investments at a reasonable price that will pay dividends in the future. Masterworks makes it easy.
