## What is Matadoor?

Matadoor puts your Mac's terminal and AI coding agents in your pocket.

Pair your iPhone or iPad with the free Matadoor Host app on your Mac and drive real shell sessions and agents — Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Cursor — from anywhere, over a direct, end-to-end-encrypted peer-to-peer connection.

• Terminals — a full PTY with a real terminal emulator
• Agents — launch and steer the coding agents installed on your Mac
• Pairing — scan a QR code; your Mac approves each device with an X25519 key exchange
• Private by design — no Matadoor servers, no accounts, no telemetry. Built on the iroh peer-to-peer library: a direct, end-to-end-encrypted link when your devices can reach each other, with encrypted relay fallback for restrictive networks.
• Live Activities — see an agent's status on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island
• Notifications — know the moment an agent needs your input or a session finishes

One-time purchase. No subscription.

TRY IT FIRST
No Mac handy? Tap "Try Demo Session" on the welcome screen to explore a fully simulated terminal and Claude Code agent session right on your device — no Mac and no pairing required.

GETTING STARTED
1. On your Mac, download the free Matadoor Host from ohmslaw.net/apps/matadoor/download
2. Open it — Matadoor Host runs in your Mac's menu bar
3. In Matadoor, scan the pairing QR shown by the host to connect

Matadoor Host (macOS) is free, notarized by Apple, and requires macOS 26 or later.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6.0 — 2026-08-19

When a connection failed, Matadoor showed a spinner and nothing else. Connection now reports the transport path it selected, the exact stage that failed, and the retry it is attempting — on both the host popover and the client, with the same diagnostics available after a drop or a reconnect.

### 1.5.0 — 2026-08-07

Long sessions no longer grow Matadoor's memory without limit. Terminal scrollback is now capped per session and a session's output is released when it ends, so a big build or a multi-hour agent run won't get the app killed mid-session.

You can now end a session from your phone: swipe a session in the sidebar, or choose End session from the terminal's actions menu, to stop a runaway agent or close a terminal you left open — no trip back to your Mac.

Terminal output is fed by stream position rather than buffer index, so nothing is double-printed or dropped when a long session is trimmed.

### 1.4.0 — 2026-07-29

Reliability and control release.

• Fixed a hang that could wedge the Mac host's system monitor and stall the app.
• Launching coding agents now works reliably, with better discovery of agents installed in ~/.local/bin.
• Failed host requests now surface an error instead of silently doing nothing.
• Notifications now appear while the app is in the foreground, and tapping one opens that session.
• Terminal sizing fixed: full-screen terminal UIs now lay out correctly, and Ctrl-C sends a real interrupt.
• More resilient reconnection after a dropped connection.
• Accessibility: added a VoiceOver label to the files refresh control.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-07-21

• Terminal sessions now stop cleanly instead of occasionally hanging.
• Pairings persist across app relaunches, with automatic reconnection that recovers through brief network drops.
• Forget pairing is now reliably reachable.
• More byte-accurate terminal output and VoiceOver labels for better accessibility.
• Pairing failures are now reported honestly instead of appearing to succeed.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-07-10

• Buttons that need a paired Mac now guide you to pairing (or the demo) instead of doing nothing
• Copy or share a terminal transcript
• Camera-setup problems now explain themselves instead of showing a black screen
• A hint (with an Open Settings shortcut) when notifications are turned off
