## What is Math Slide?

Math Slide: tens & ones is a multiplayer game helping children understand numbers up to 100: 'tens' and 'ones'. Players play and learn by sliding tiles into the center to match an image, answer or equation.

There are two modes or ways to play this game. Competition Mode is where the player who slides their tiles into the middle first wins, or Collaboration Mode where all players slide their tiles into the middle at the same time, working together and winning together.

Understanding tens and ones is a key math concept critical in a child’s development. Progressing from counting to using number facts and place value is difficult for many children. This app is specifically designed to help children make this critical progression, helping them ‘see’ and understand that 23 is 2 ‘tens’ and 3 ‘ones’ and that one more than 79 is 8 groups of ten.

Features
• Multiplayer game, suitable for one, two, three or four players
• Games can be played in Competition Mode or Collaboration Mode
• 10 games all focused on the same key math concept
• All games can be played twice for free
• Game 1 and Game 8 can be played unlimited times
• Each game is a little harder than the previous game
• The app focuses on a critical math concept vital for success

To work out if this app is at the right level of challenge try Game 1 and Game 8. If Game 1 is too hard or Game 8 is too easy this app is not at the right level.

The free version of this app allows each game to be played twice. Games 1 and Game 8 can be played unlimited times for free. A paid version which contains all these games and more, and can be used with Apple’s Volume Purchasing Program for Education VPP, it is called Math Slide: Place Value.

2. Select a game to play
3. Players join the game by clicking on ‘Join’
4. Click ‘Start Game’, wait for the count down, and play
5. Slide a tile into the center to match an image, answer or equation
6. Once tiles are used the game ends

### 5/5 — Kindergarten teacher

*2013-11-17*

I would highly recommend this app. I use it in my classroom, as well as for tutoring. I like the fact that it can be played individually or with up to 4 players. It helps children develop a good number sense, especially in relation to the numeral ten. It begins by focusing on a variety of ways to represent numbers 1-10 (ten frame, fingers, dot configuration, etc.) Each game level builds on the previous one, getting increasingly more challenging. I recommend this app to all my students' parents, as well as my colleagues.

### 5/5 — Great content!

*2013-06-28, version 1.1*

Love this app! Perfectly aligned with the NZ curriculum and fits numeracy stages 1 - 5 at least, but great maintenence for those at higher stages! Recommend this to all NZ teachers,

### 5/5 — Good app!

*2013-05-02*

My son is learning how to quickly count groups of tens. The app does a great job of reinforcing his trust that a group of ten actually contains 10 units which is a pretty big concept for kids to get their head around. Recommended for 1st graders.

### 4/5 — This is a good idea!

*2013-03-07, version 1.0.1*

This app is good - with many different representations and multi-player options; however, schools that can't use in-app purchases can buy the school version separately to support students and learning. I really like the game format and the play-off between players, it is engaging for students (and teachers too!). I recommend that you download this app before deciding to buy the full version :)

### 5/5 — Great

*2013-01-28*

Great app for my 1st graders. They love the game. It allows 4 players to play at a time. And best of all, they are learning number concepts. We love it!

### 5/5 — My kids love playing this

*2013-01-23, version 1.0.1*

And it has increased both their confidence and their skill. 5 stars and I would give it more if I could.
Thanks.
