This does calculate math equations in probably the most frustrating way possible. In calculate mode you have to hit calculate every time you want an answer, which takes you to another screen and out of your flow. The app also hasn’t seen an update in over a year. The documentation both within the app and in the user guide is sparse, dry, dull, and incomplete which shouldn’t be the case for something this old and ‘mature’. It really feels like it has always been someone’s pet project they have all but abandoned at this point. It functions but the user experience is trash. ### 4/5 — Klasse CAS *2024-02-10* PocketCAS ist eine wirklich leistungsstarke App und am iPad quasi einmalig. Sie läuft schnell und bietet einen großen Funktionsumfang. Negativ würde ich bewerten, dass die App nach einem Kauf nicht Cross-Plattform auch auf einem Mac verwendet werden kann, sondern erneut gekauft werden muss-besonders ärgerlich, da es keinen EDU-Rabatt oä. gibt. Zudem wirkt die App sehr aus „nativen“ iOS-Elementen zusammengebaut. Menüs kommen ohne Icons daher und die Maske zur Eingabe einer Matrix ist unintuitiv. Am besten einfach mal vorher die Lite-Version testen. Been referring to cascmd.pdf file available on the web for example. Not all features detailed in cascmd are implemented. Otherwise very happy with this app and it gets the job done. Support was excellent when I needed it. Have not run into any real limitations with PocketCAS pro. Best math program for iOS imo. Similar to legacy MathCAD products in many ways. Use it just about every day for various tasks. But honestly I doubt there is “what I am looking for” out there…this one is just not for me. ### 5/5 — Pocket CAS is a good program *2021-09-20* I have been using Pocket CAS for a lot of years. I use to assist me in my personal studies. The program is extremely useful in being able to take notes on the same sheet as the calculations. My criticism is, that the operators manual needs to be more in depth. Also the order of operations needs to be clearly explained, as it is difficult to recognize how the order in which the calculator is performing the math. It would also help if the calculator kept all terms in the same order as they were written. This is a good program, but it would be better if you could make changes that i mentioned above. The only thing it MAY be missing (as in I’m sure it’s actually in here somewhere in the vast library of functions) would be a tool for specific things such as triangle solvers as well as an integrated watch app. This is by far the absolute best solver for anything. A lot of developing if they want to charge $20. Free apps have better buttons and solutions. Graphing is very off when it comes to trig functions. I just wasted $20 because I was going off the stars. ### 1/5 — Unaddressed Errors *2021-08-24* When I first purchased this app, it was to help with collegiate math classes. I noticed an interesting quirk which I see has remained unaddressed: The stddev function doesn’t not return the standard deviation. It returns the population standard deviation. I verified this using several other computer algebra system apps, a stats calculator, consulting my stats professor, and consulting a college math tutor. I contacted the maker of this app quite some time ago about it and all I got was push back. Even after providing evidence that the function’s return is incorrect based on the function’s name. The stdDev function returns the correct result, despite being listed as an alias for stdDev. It is not. Confusingly, it returns the same result as stddevp which is supposed to return the population standard deviation. It does not. It returns the standard deviation, as stdDev does, even though stdDev’s in-app description explicitly states it is returning the population standard deviation. Please note that PocketCAS can do Cartesian (z=f(x,y)), Parametric ((x,y,z)=f(u,t)) and Polar (r=f(phi,theta)) 3D plots. It's only implicit 3D plots that are not supported, and you can replace some of those with Polar plots. For example, our "3D Plots" tutorial shows how to draw a sphere with 3D polar plots. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. Also, as an individual developer I'd appreciate if you could reconsider giving only one star just for the lack of implicit 3D plotting, given how many other things work well in PocketCAS. I like to have all calculation that I performed moment ago on the screen. As an engineer I am using TI 89 Titanium, but I downloaded this calculator for situations where my TI is not handy. It is the same thing in play money in the trash ### 1/5 — Do NOT buy this Application! *2012-04-27, version 3.0.1* I am a good customer of apple with having more than 350 applications on my different apple devices. In over all I am very pleased with almost all of my applications. But last night I became very furious with the upgrade of one of my old original application called " PocketCAS". The upgrade which is called "PocketCAS Pro LE Light for iPhones" turns out to be a scamp downgrade by dis-functioning some of the function keys of the original application, such as Integration, Taylor Expansion, and so forth. Then, from the upgraded version of the application, they offer new versions of the application called "PocketCAS version 2 Pro" for $1.99 and "PocketCAS version 3", which turn out to be the upgrade version of what you had installed in the first place (PocketCAS Pro LE Light for iPhones) with missing original key functions. I believe the application developers have the intention to charge their customers may be 1$ for release of any original application function key, as I notice by coming up with different versions of the original applications, but limited number of functionalities! Therefore, I have deleted one of my least favorite application from my apple devices for good. I believe to have respect for your own company (PocketCAS), the application developers should be honest, transparent, and productive to their customers rather than deceiving and greedy! Minha previsão: Já que a desenvolvedora do Maple não faz uma versão para iPad (provavelmente por motivos financeiros); outras empresas farão esse trabalho, aproveitando essa (grande) demanda do mercado. It's a fantastic application offering all the power one would expect from a high-end programmable graphics calculator in an efficient and inexpensive application. Probably not for school work where you need something thats ok to use on standardized tests, but its great for a STEM techie or puzzle hobbyist who needs algebraic calculations, numeric sequences, matrices etc I've bought lots, including HP calculator emulators, which have a painful UI and pixelated displays. A TI calculator emulator which I have to read the manual each time I pick up. Not to mention a bunch of Matlab and Mathematica work-alikes which are all unstable or delete your work if you press the wrong key. ### 5/5 — Best CAS for Apple devices with iCloud and even Handoff *2024-01-01* I use an HP Prime Graphing Calculator and this app is the best alternative, or maybe even an upgrade, for its CAS function. They use the same kernel known as Xcas. Though HP provides a completely free emulator for computers (25 bucks for iOS), it's frustrating to navigate through formulas in an 'exactly emulated' window with a 320*240 resolution. Besides, I'm happy to find this app supports more 3D graphing functionalities than HP Prime. Such as 3D parametric plots, lines, planes... and even animated plots! I've also tried the app from Xcas website, only finding it's not updated and maintained for newer macOS versions for a long time. And to be honest, the original Xcas app is really hard to use. An added bonus is that this app supports the Handoff function. It conveniently pops up on the dock of my Mac, and with just one click, I can seamlessly transition it onto my big screen. Don't hesitate to get it! Totally worth the 50 bucks for all your Apple devices! ### 5/5 — Great CAS *2023-12-03, version 2023.1.4* This is a very good program. XCas/GIAC on the ipad! The GIAC kernel looked up-to-date (9/2023), so the dev appear to be keeping it current. The 900 or so page manual written by the GIAC developers(?) Is excellent. The only problems i have had involve file I/O but that is because of the protected nature of ios sandboxing, not this program. There are ways to read and write files from the menus. Now retired from teaching but still use it. The latest version on iPadPro 2 doesn't allow adding or editing your variables.
