### 4/5 — Fab!

*2014-09-01*

I love this app!! Some things that would make it a 5 star: ability to edit our saved combos w/out having to save as a new favorite, fix the FB connection, make it easier to reset settings to defaults, open all new pics w no edits- just as the original. Most importantly, get rid of the system where it asks which version of the pic you want to open. I want to open the one I selected, so just make it simple. Also, that doesn't work if I edited the pic in another app after mattebox and then want to open it in mattebox again.

### 4/5 — Good but not (yet) great

*2014-02-10*

Good: Nice and simple camera, easy to operate, exposure adjustments, terrific output quality, and wonderful filters.

Bad: There are still a few bugs and MANY ease-of-use issues. Workflow is not smooth.

I have send my feedback to the developer. If he responds and fixes the issues, I will gladly change to five stars. This app should be five-star but not there yet.

### 3/5 — Annoying prompts

*2013-12-29*

Nice filters, well designed once you leave the take pic UI.

But…leave me alone. Don't freeze the app and interrupt my workflow to do something for your gain. I am not your pimp.

### 3/5 — An error has occurred

*2013-12-16, version 2.0.1*

This was/is a great app and the first version I used all the time, unfortunately the new version has some major problems on the 3GS with ios7. Crashes red boxes floating around saying 'An error has occurred'.

The editor just doesn't function any more.

Good luck with the bug fixes.

### 5/5 — Amazing control

*2013-12-13, version 2.0.1*

Why pay for filters when you can create your own and try 100's already shared via the Mattebox community.

So many favourite filters made by very talented photographers, love it 👌

### 5/5 — Awesome!

*2013-12-13, version 2.0.1*

I loved using Mattebox 1 and was excited about the launch of the 2nd version. I was surprised and pleased when the app was upgraded and I didn't have to pay again, though I would've many times over!
This app is the best photo app by a mile and one of the best designed apps I've used all round. The fact that you don't have to pay anything other than the app price is great. Unlimited filters from great users.
Oh and it handles my DSLR photos WITHOUT downsizing!
You will not be disappointed.

### 3/5 — Almost there.

*2013-12-13*

Great app but is so annoying that the photos don't save with the filter applied to them, other than that an amazing camera!

### 5/5 — Beautiful UI

*2013-12-12*

This app is wonderful. Beautiful UI with plenty of photo editing features and essentially an endless amount of filters that can be applied in a breeze.

### 5/5 — I'd love this if it actually WORKED.

*2013-11-29*

Red boxes that say "an error has occured" that pop up in columns right after the Mattebox splash screen (after opening the app). What gives?

### 5/5 — The ONE.

*2013-11-28, version 2.0.1*

Hands down the best camera/editing app for iOS, an easy to use and accurate camera and a powerful editor rolled into one. I use it on my iPhone 5S as a camera, and as an editor on my iPad (you can specify which should open when you launch the app). It has many of the functions of a desktop editor like Lightroom or Aperture, and is a great platform within which to learn how to develop and fine tune an image. You can save a set of rules as a filter, you can easily apply edits to other images. And since filters are sharable among other users (a feature unique to MB), you can quickly apply a wide variety of looks to an image.

### 5/5 — Phenomenal update

*2013-11-27*

A great deal of power if you want it, or use it as a camera with presets.

Outstanding quality on my 5S. The camera part of the app is fast and flexible. And the editing part is the best available on iOS. The community presets offer film simulations and almost painterly effects. And all of the presets are adjustable in every way, including full RGB curves as in Photoshop. You can even export and import PSD files to use for settings.

### 5/5 — Superb results

*2013-11-26*

This camera app produces the best quality TIFFs I've seen.

### 5/5 — Photo quality is stellar

*2013-11-22*

- Filters are top-drawer and are easy to create & share
- Editing is precise and intuitive
- Curves adjustment is one of the very best

This app deserves a prominent place in every iphonographer's home screen

### 4/5 — Nearly there.

*2013-11-16*

There's a ton to love about the latest version of Mattebox. It's simple and elegant, but unfortunately crashes way too often (iOS 7.0.4). Filters are nice, as is the EV adjustment. It would be nice to have the ability to pinch-zoom when editing photos, to better judge how the adjustments affect the images.

### 5/5 — New Exposure Wheel

*2013-11-16, version 2.0.1*

The first version of this app was great, but it was missing seperate exposure and focus control. While it wasn't a huge deal with the available post editing features, convenience is king. The new exposure wheel makes this app a DREAM. You have control over exposure in 1/3 stop intervals, and focusing is just as simple as it was in version one.

A MUST for anyone serious about iphone photography!

### 5/5 — Amazing...Simpy Brilliant.

*2013-11-16, version 2.0.1*

Love this app so much. The work and thought that has gone into making this app is just mind blowing. Didn't think I would download yet another photo app but took a chance on this and deleted the others. On my first home screen and not a folder! Even better no in apps. All filters current and new are there ready to use. Thanks Ben and all your team. Rob

### 3/5 — With the new 7.4 upgrade on the iPhone 4S keeps crashing!

*2013-11-16*

Once fixed I will give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2013-11-16, version 2.0.1*

Clean UI. Best results. Worth the money. And now iOS7 ready!

### 5/5 — this is the app you have been looking for

*2013-11-15*

If you are a serious iphotographer this is the app. I was one of the original beta testers and quickly fell in love with mattebox. I think this may change the way you think about filters and sharing them. I have never been a big fan of curves and more complex features but the way the app its set up it makes it fun to tweak and create your own filters. This app has replaced 99% of my apps!

### 4/5 — Wow!

*2013-11-15*

What an update! While there are still a few minor bugs and kinks to be smoothed over, the new version of Mattebox leaps off the screen in terms of overall quality of image. Simply running a photo through LR or other post-processing software will reveal just how much this app stands out vs. other “pro” camera apps.

The editing UI isn’t the most intuitive but the power behind the editor and the ability to export PS or LR presets is unprecedented. I’m sure the overall workflow will continue to improve with feedback but no other app comes close to matching the power and customization while still coupling this with an amazing camera UI.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Discontinued?

*2013-06-07, version 1.3*

I loved this photo app while it was being lovingly cared for... But it appears to be gathering dust as far as continued development goes. I check on it every now and then, but as it stands my advice is steer clear.

Hopefully that will change soon.

### 1/5 — No update in over a year!

*2013-05-10, version 1.3*

This app seems to be stuck in limbo as there has been no update since January 2012! Also, the ISO and focus distance display on press and hold is not working for me on iPhone 4S. I don't even know what this app works like on the iPhone 5! So as mesmerizing as the video was, I wouldn't recommend the application.

### 1/5 — Crashing

*2013-03-12, version 1.3*

App crashes when saving photos. Such a small detail renders a beautiful app useless

### 1/5 — Ok

*2012-11-20, version 1.3*

Been hearing about an update for a while. Until then there are a lot better photo apps.

### 1/5 — What am I missing?

*2012-05-08, version 1.3*

I dnt get it, neither should you.

I'll stick to quickpix, it allows me to shoot video and capture pictures at the same time, except in HD

### 1/5 — Deception

*2012-02-27, version 1.3*

The promo video indicates more
than the software actually does. All of the adjusting is done after a Photo is taken. Big deal. It doesn't come close to camera+ and is a ripoff move to promote a deceitful video. Shame on you. you've now included a
Disclaimer, but this app should be pulled until it actually works.

### 1/5 — Virtually Worthless

*2012-02-25, version 1.3*

if apple would give me my money back, I'd gladly accept it. The app adds very little functionality not already available in other apps. But what really kills it is the save button. It doesn't work. Sometimes you can save, sometimes not. Most times not. It does "look" cool. But it isn't cool to charge $4 for something 1/4 as good as competing products. Add to that the lack of use info and ability to contact the company that made it, and we have? A bust.

Move along, this isn't the camera app you were hoping for.

### 1/5 — Not worth it

*2012-02-08, version 1.3*

I watched the video hoping for a great app. You get a few other add ons but not much more than the regular iPhone. The iPhone has af/ae lock. This only tells you what that is, but you can do nothing about it. Really not worth the money for me, and I do this for a living.

### 1/5 — Can no longer see image

*2012-02-07, version 1.3*

Worked great for one day then it stopped displaying image after capturing photo. I just get a black screen.

### 1/5 — Ha!!!

*2012-01-24, version 1.3*

What a waste of money!!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best photography app on appstore

*2014-08-21, version 2.0.1*

Professional, Easy, high Quality, Like DSLR for iphone

### 5/5 — BEST CAMERA APP OUT THERE

*2014-06-20*

Do yourself a favor and purchase this app. Your photographs from there on out will thank you. Thanks for the great tool Ben.

### 5/5 — Outstanding!

*2014-03-21, version 2.0.1*

Mattebox is at the top of my front screen, and is my first ‘shooter’ — and my first editor!
Simplicity on the surface, complexity under the hood!
Point, compose, press to focus & expose, slide finger to shoot. Simple!
Editing has much more complexity that I'm still working through. Excellent editing tools (though I miss Sharpening …) Filters are excellent, plus eminently adjustable. Socially-available filters as well.

### 5/5 — The best UI is never in the way

*2014-03-18*

An amazing example of User Interface design. Excellent!

### 5/5 — wow

*2014-02-20*

This is my favorite camera app ever. Shoots tiff, non-destructive editing, you can import the filters in to Lightroom or curves into photoshop. SO GOOD.

### 5/5 — The. Best.

*2014-01-30*

Overall, tried most every app. VSCO cam was my go to, but this took taking photos on iPhone to the next level. If you are on the fence, just take the plunge and buy it. I would like to see some sort of social/blog integration like VSCO Grid.

### 5/5 — Mattebox Rocks

*2014-01-19*

I would like to see a little bit more social atmosphere within the community portion of this app. Unless I'm missing something I would like to be able to search for more than just the top 100 of which I think there are less sometimes maybe there's a way that that can be modified for the future. With regard to the quality of this app... I have used virtually every camera app in the store and there's very few that I will always go back to use sometimes just because they're fun to use this is one of those, but it also produces a quality image. I enjoy fine-tuning the images and I think the interface is unique, attractive and the developer is very much interested in hearing from you. So, before you have any negative feedback give him a try.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2014-01-09, version 2.0.1*

Fantastic app for picture taking with save as tiff for quality. Editing in the app is easy with a lot of filters from other users. Use them as a starting point and create a new one or simply start from scratch.
Very happy with the app!

### 5/5 — First Class camera app

*2014-01-09, version 2.0.1*

Simple interface, powerful features. I have no complaints. High quality stuff.

### 5/5 — One Camera App to Rule Them All!

*2013-12-13*

I can't say enough how much I love this app. It really helps you focus on the way you shoot and the filter editing possibilities are endless.
