Matted fits any photo into any frame, without cropping a single pixel.

Instagram now shows your grid at 4:5. TikTok, LinkedIn and every other platform want their own shapes too. Instead of cutting your photo down to fit, Matted pads it with a beautiful background, a mat, so the whole image always survives.

Reframe by hand. Pinch to zoom, drag to pan and double-tap to reset, so you can frame people in or out without the app cropping for you.

Clearer controls. "Fill" is the mat behind your photo and "Isolate Subject" lifts your subject out of its background. They used to be one control, which confused people.

Clear the fill for a fully transparent mat, or use one of your own photos as the fill instead of a plain colour.

The platform size list now collapses into tidy groups, so it is quicker to find the size you need.

A new smaller tip option, plus fixes and polish throughout.

A lot has landed since launch. Here is what is new.

• Canvas-first editor. Your photo now owns the screen, with every tool a tap away on a tidy bottom rail. Less clutter, more photo.
• Borders. Add a clean border around your photo, or pick Original to keep it edge to edge.
• Lift the subject. Pull the main subject off its background on device, then drop it straight onto a mat.
• Add your mark. Place a small signature or brand mark on the frame to sign your work.
• Shortcuts and Siri. Frame a photo hands free with App Intents, or wire Matted into your own automations.
• Punchier mesh gradients. The generated backgrounds drawn from your photo look richer than ever.
• Rounded corners. Soften the photo corners, round the mat, or both. Rounded mats save as PNG so the corners stay transparent.
• Extend the photo. On supported devices, fill the mat by extending your photo outward, with a tasteful fallback everywhere else.
• Now in nine more languages. Matted speaks German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
