### 5/5 — It actually works!!

*2025-11-05*

I was skeptical about this one but the brain research is always something I try to keep an open mind about and try when an app claims insight into brain activity, and so I did the 7 day trial. In so far 5 days in the trial I’ve actually found myself feeling happier and even thinking of different memories I could add to this app and it really does make me happier at the end of the day!

**Developer response:** We're so glad to hear you're feeling happier after just five days! We'd love to stay connected on your happiness journey. Feel free to reach out to feedback@matter.xyz with any thoughts, feedback, and questions you have as you continue in the app!

### 5/5 — No tutorial, nor help.

*2025-10-15*

I can create a memory, but there’s no option to save it. So, kind of useless.
And apparently there’s no help from this company, either. I guess I’ll just create drafts for no reason. Or, delete the app.
Edit: received support. Super happy.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for letting us know about this issue. Our team already pushed forward a fix. Could you please look to update to the latest Matter app version in the app store, and let us know if you continue to have any issues at feedback@matter.xyz? As for a tutorial, we're happy to offer a personalized onboarding session. Simply email us at feedback@matter.xyz and we can coordinate a time to connect :)

### 5/5 — This app has improved my life

*2025-10-08*

Love this app. It helps me pay attention to the good stuff happening in my life and is very user friendly. I’ve recommended it to so many friends. Instead of posting to IG I use this, and it feels better and gets me off social media!

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your feedback and recommendations for the Matter app! At Matter Neuroscience, we’ve seen undeniable clinical data: no modern behavior is as devastating to mental health as social media use. We're so glad to hear our app can serve as a substitute. If you ever have additional thoughts on how we could improve the experience, feel free to let us know at feedback@matter.xyz. We'd love to hear from you again!

### 5/5 — Extremely grateful

*2025-09-05, version 1.20.2*

Incredible app. Happiness of yourself and learning to identify different flavours and kinds are so important.

My memories and ability to see happy memories and nuances are a lot more common and I’m remembering them more sporadically instead of feeling like it’s just a grey wall of my past

### 5/5 — Si

*2025-08-25, version 1.19.0*

Si ya estoy llegando ya

### 4/5 — It’s got potential

*2025-08-08*

Hey, I think this app is a good idea and I like the intention it has. Especially the music I like the music part.

But I have to be honest, the thing I will say I hate about the app “the sexual desire” first of all things like that does not cause joy for me. It only brings back bad memories and causes anger and stress for me. Things like that are not pleasant only agony.

I wish that opinion would either be removed from file by the user’s own choice or have it shaded out. If this kind of information is going to continue to cause negative feelings I might have to delete this app and find another.

Another thing, it would be nice if users can add videos instead of just pictures. Since I make animated videos I would love to record it in my memory bank since those do cause joy for me. This is only a suggestion.

But I like the idea and feel this app can be beneficial.

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing all of this feedback! In our studies, we have seen that music increases the emotion intensity during recall by 10-100 times. So we're glad to hear you're enjoying its effects, too! Relatedly, we currently focus on a photo as the primary "anchor" for memories (rather than audio or video) because within the first 3-4 seconds during recall, the visual cortex of your brain has processed the memory and begins assembling it on its own. After that, you can close your eyes and embrace the experience as you no longer need the visual cues to enjoy the memory. Then it’s like watching a movie that you make up in your brain (kinda like a dream) – your brain essentially makes its own video. That said, I've passed along this feedback to the team that you're interested in adding videos as primary anchors on top of photos.

As for sexual desire not bringing you joy, we understand that a major biological block on the journey to understand and enjoy sexual desire are negative emotions like pain, anxiety, shame or disgust. All these negative emotions release very high amounts of cortisol. Cortisol is a very potent, molecular antagonist to all six neurotransmitters driving positive emotions. In the presence of cortisol, the experience of sexual desire – and most other positive emotions – is molecularly impossible. So it's totally fine to simply not rate or record any memories including sexual desire if it triggers any negative recall. Moreover, Matter is about more happiness – so if any memory you think to add isn't positive, please don't add it to the app. For what its worth, we also just released a version of the app where the testosterone frame is blurred on the home screen. That said, again, if it feels better for you, feel free to not rate sexual desire ever in the app. Thank you again for all this feedback! If you have more to share we'd love to hear it at feedbck@matter.xyz .

### 5/5 — I LITERALLY LOVE THIS SO MUCH

*2025-07-18*

Im so serious i never leave reviews but this app is so amazing. I wanna go into neuroscience when im older so i looked up “neuroscience” on the app store and clicked on this one. Downloaded and its genuinely the best app ive ever gotten. NO IN-APP PURCHASES AND YET ITS SO MODERN. I literally love it so much i sent it to 3 diff people and made them get it(i literally sound like an ad right now but im being so fr im a real person). You pick a photo that is like a good memory and rate each “feel-good” chemical in ur brain(like which one was active during it) and then at the end of the week it gives you like a rewind of all the happy places and memories you have and omg its just such an amazing concept i love it so much. THANK YOU🙏🙏🙏🙏 PLEASE KEEP THIS APP FREE BECAUSE ITS LITERALLY MY FAVORITE

**Developer response:** Hey Matthew, thank you so much for this glowing review and sharing the app with others! You made our brains light up with dopamine (enthusiasm), serotonin (pride), and opioids (gratitude). If you ever have more feedback to share, please email us at feedback@matter.xyz . We'd love to hear from you again in the future!

### 5/5 — Incredible!!

*2025-06-25*

Gives me a new way to guide how I spend my time and makes me appreciate the life I have!!

**Developer response:** We love to hear it! Keep us posted on your Matter journey.

### 5/5 — Realizing Happiness

*2025-05-01*

Such an interesting tool for exploring my feel good vibes. Love the mini classes and associated community app called Mighty. Try it, you’ll be happy you did!

**Developer response:** Thank you for sharing this, Dena! We're so glad to have you in our community as well :)

### 5/5 — Exceptional App

*2025-04-27, version 1.13.0*

Keep doing what you’re doing! This app is elegant in design and really puts the science of happiness to the test! I love it

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2025-02-20, version 1.9.3*

This app has been a great way to take pre-existing memories and utilize them to boost happiness. Big fan!

### 5/5 — Really nice design

*2024-12-24, version 1.8.2*

I really liked the intro to this app, cool animation but also informative. I do like this app and i guess its good to only have memories that are positive but an extra feature where i could rate negative emotions to equally understand what makes me feel bad, would be nice. Probably not like with a picture but just somewhere to rant.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — The app has forces you to keep paying

*2026-05-19, version 3.0.6*

I started a trial and asked to pay again, the overall experience is clunky and not really useful. Do not recommend it

### 1/5 — Inaccurate description

*2025-09-10*

I’ve been using this app for a while now. I just updated it and now can’t use it without paying $14 a month. It said subscriptions for new users. I’m not a new user.
Misleading and now not usable for me.

**Developer response:** Hey there! A couple of weeks ago we made the decision to charge new members to join Matter after trialing the app for free for seven days. That said, if you installed the app weeks ago, the paywall shouldn't apply to you. You should've gotten free access to our neuroscience-backed framework forever as a small token of appreciation for trusting us to be an ally on your happiness journey early on. We moved in this direction to keep adding value to our members and we need resources to do this. We're excited for the Matter App to earn its right to exist in the world! That said, can you send us an email through the app by tapping on the ⚙️ settings gear on the main screen of Matter in the top right, tapping on "Manage Subscription", then tapping "Contact support"? That should prompt an email to our support team that includes the pertinent details for us to determine when you joined. Then we can ensure people like you who were here early get Matter for free for life! P.S. If you're still seeing that paywall, you can tap the "x" in the corner to get to the Matter homescreen until we sort this out!

### 1/5 — Deletes data

*2025-08-30, version 1.20.2*

Used for a few weeks and then discovered it had completely erased all the data I’d uploaded. Complete waste of time and terrible app.

### 1/5 — Unhelpful

*2025-07-18, version 1.16.0*

Felt like filling out a generic questionnaire and wound up right back where I started. Left/deleted app.

### 1/5 — Had potential but is a fail

*2024-07-10, version 1.0.1*

Glitches every time I try to upload an image. Doesn’t work at all. Very disappointed.

### 2/5 — It’s just more AI slop

*2026-05-14*

I love neuroscience and psychology, so I was excited to explore this app. It has an interesting premise, and it uses cool visuals of the brain to go along with the entries you create.

However, I’m so tired of companies relying on AI models to “chat” with consumers in these kinds of apps. The AI coach’s tone was way too stiff and robotic as well. It’s such a bummer because I feel like the app would have been so much better if you didn’t have to chat with “M” (the AI’s name).
Also, $15/month for the subscription feels very expensive to talk to an AI who doesn’t provide any insight or thoughtful additions to whatever is being discussed.

If you don’t mind AI slop, you might enjoy the app. Otherwise, steer clear.

**Developer response:** We're hoping to quickly learn what helps our members have a positive mindset and take positive action - all toward living an emotionally and molecularly rich and balanced life. So thanks for giving our app a try and letting us know how you found the AI coach's tone and value. We'll continue to make updates to the app to address your concerns. Thanks again for offering your feedback!

### 2/5 — Good idea but app doesn’t work

*2024-07-02*

I really want to like it but every time I go to add a memory the app freezes, making it unusable. When I restart it and click a draft, it freezes again. So far haven’t found a workaround but it shouldn’t be this unusable right off the bat.

**Developer response:** Hi there, we wanted to let you know that this issue was fixed in our latest update (app version 1.1.1). Please be sure to update your Matter app in the App Store so you can start adding memories. :) Thank you for your patience, if you have any other questions feel free to reach out to support@matter.xyz

### 2/5 — Bug

*2024-06-27, version 1.0*

I can’t press any button. I was able to load a photo, but them can’t seem to press any buttom. Looks like a glitch. I have uninstalled and installed again. And the issue persists. Im using an iPhone 13 pro

### 3/5 — Crashes when I try uploading a picture

*2025-02-08*

Not sure what is going on with these crashes. Another bug fix needed. Thanks

**Developer response:** Hey there,

Thank you for letting us know the app is crashing when you try uploading a picture. If you have a few minutes, we have a couple of questions regarding the crash. Your answers will help us understand what happened and hopefully resolve the issue. Could you please email feedback@matter.xyx:
1) What type of iPhone are you using?
     - To find your iPhone model, go to Settings > General > About and look for ‘Model Name’. [Example: i-Phone 14 Pro]
2) What version of iOS are you using?

### 4/5 — I am ten, how do I turn off the sexual desire emotion in the diary

*2025-08-15, version 1.18.3*

I like the app other than that but I just wanted to say this

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Fabulous mood lifter!

*2026-07-20*

I heard about this app on a podcast…. And I can report that just recording memories, and going through pictures and contacts, lifted my spirits. Looking at all the people I know with the filter “this person gave me a good memory “ was a mind-changer. The coaching is good too. Love it!!

**Developer response:** So glad you found us and are feeling the joys of recalling past good moments! We'd love to hear from you as you continue to try coaching and other parts of the app. Don't hesitate to share more at feedback@matter.xyz !

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-06-30, version 3.2.0*

It’s an amazing app I just wish that there was a way to use it without paying for premium such as a free tier.

### 5/5 — Finally, a Happiness Tool!

*2026-06-14*

This approach just makes so much sense. Thank you for changing my life for the better.

### 5/5 — Early User < Brilliant, Science-Backed Evolution

*2026-05-23*

I’ve been using Matter since the early days, and it has been incredible to watch it evolve. The foundation of tracking positive memories to understand your unique neurochemical patterns was already brilliant, but the addition of the new conversational coaching features with M takes it to the next level. It transforms your reflections into actual, actionable mental workouts. From a design, framework, and educational standpoint, this is easily one of the most sophisticated platforms on the market. Highly recommended.

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing your feedback – especially as a long-time Matter member. We're so glad to hear you've been enjoying Matter's evolution. Should you have more to share, please let us know at feedback@matter.xyz !

### 5/5 — So helpful

*2026-05-22, version 3.0.7*

The science of mental health has come so far. Tending to neuro transmitters leading to happiness is the path to mental health

### 5/5 — Really Cool!

*2026-03-15, version 2.8.2*

This is really cool. And it’s kind of hard actually because it forces you to focus on things that have made you feel good and it’s weird how hard that is. I guess it’s harder when you’re a person who’s struggling with a lot of things that make you feel not very good which I guess is sort of the point. This is trying to change your brain.

### 5/5 — 1b7bfe99-40ed-4fcd-8163-d5ad3a3b8a23

*2026-03-13, version 2.8.2*

I really enjoyed the movie and musical history of the remix as well as the production process of building memories

### 5/5 — Very interesting

*2026-01-28, version 2.6.2*

Interactive, stimulating, educational, colorful, encouraging,

### 5/5 — Wow.

*2025-12-28*

I'm really glad I joined Matter. part of this has been learning the science of happiness, but more than that has been the daily practice of noticing and reflecting on the good moments of my day. I find myself viewing my life much more positively now. Thanks Matter and thanks to the other members here for inspiring me to keep up my practice.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the glowing review! So glad to hear your brain is also glowing as a result of being more present in your days. As you continue your happiness practice and have more to share, please reach out to us at feedback@matter.xyz . We'd love to keep hearing your thoughts!

### 5/5 — Raises awareness

*2025-11-10, version 2.3.1*
