## Newest reviews (10 of 365)

### 3/5 — Not worth $60+ per year

*2026-08-18, version 4.1.13*

This app without a doubt has the best vocalization capabilities, but it’s pretty poor in terms of enabling you to identify sources within or through the app

### 4/5 — Ability to add more than one email for email news letters.

*2026-08-11, version 4.1.13*

The app is great, highly functional does everything it promises. My favorite features are ai summary of an entire page, audio book feature where you can listen to the content rather than reading, article recommendations based on saved articles, learning with Ai flashcard style. My only misgivings are the fact that you can only add one email address for your email newsletters. Also organizing is rather limited. There should be the option of saving links or articles in different folders, tagging within said folders. Currently the only organizational option is tags. Not enough

### 3/5 — Has Potential, Poor Customer Service

*2026-07-17, version 4.1.12*

This app is great, nice UI and works fairly well at parsing content, great TTS engine. I signed up for Pro for a month, but cancelled due to the non-existent support (out of 3 requests I got 1 response). Shame as this hits better than Readwise, but I’ve learned when the app is decent the support is usually poor.

### 2/5 — Okay app let down by unresponsive support

*2026-05-30, version 4.1.10*

No way to opt out of subscription auto-renewal (when not subscribed via the App Store). Unresponsive support to both genuine feedback and cancellation requests. Better apps out there. Avoid

### 2/5 — Buggy and shuts down, stick with a competitor

*2026-05-16, version 4.1.9*

Great design and nice audio voices but it repeatedly shuts down as an app for no reason. I’ve done all the trouble shooting several times and it hasn’t improved. Customer support has not been very helpful; just repeating the same “have you tried this?” and also asking for screenshots of the issue which isn’t going to help diagnosing it further realistically. I can’t be the only person with this issue, so overall a disappointment and I will return to a competitor.

### 4/5 — Pretty good, missing a few things

*2026-04-27, version 4.1.9*

A widget for unread articles would be a game changer, or the option to buy once. I just can’t justify paying monthly.

### 4/5 — Mac App is missing

*2026-04-26*

Would like to have a native app on Mac instead of the website for a better experience

### 2/5 — Can use with only one device

*2026-04-12, version 4.1.6*

I tried to get it in mt phone. But my email confirmation never arrives. I wrote the company - check spam/junk, which I of course had done. No other help available

I gave up and deleted it. After several emails back and forth, they never did anything with the information I gave them

April Update
I thought I’d give them another chance. Still no email confirmation received

### 3/5 — Great concept, mediocre execution

*2026-03-30, version 4.1.5*

I love the concept of the app, but it falls far short of being your go-to reading app. It’s very difficult to get PDFs or text emails into the app. Sometimes the emails are in your queue quickly, and sometimes they don’t show up at all.

The browser extension sometimes pulls in the article, and sometimes it only creates a browser link, which is no better than a bookmark.

You can supposedly add content via the iOS share menu, but it’s very limited in what can really be shared to it.

I’m a paying “pro” user, but there is no response to support questions.

They don’t seem to be updating the app.

### 4/5 — Does the job

*2026-02-17, version 4.0.9*

Solid and customizable reader, appreciate the Discover tab and being able to follow writers/publications. Support for any and all RSS feeds so I don’t have to rely on newsletter workarounds would be appreciated.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Better Than Instapaper – Not

*2026-07-01, version 4.1.12*

Hi folks, I can’t recommend this app. Downloaded it got a very slick email from the CEO extolling its wonderful virtues. Then a very clever way to upgrade a pro trial. Well, their trial didn’t work so well. And Matter didn’t perform any better than Instapaper frequently coming up with a pathetic excuse that it couldn’t scrape articles from Apple News. Overpriced and Underperformed.

### 1/5 — Bad Support

*2026-06-30*

Tried to cancel in the 2nd year, sent a lot of e-mails and had no answer. I don't know what to do to recover my money...

### 1/5 — Frustration

*2026-06-05*

Sends email to try new discover Feature. Installs app. Blocked by pro paywall. Uninstalls app

### 1/5 — Not looking Ethical

*2026-05-03*

This app is forcing subscriptions. I haven't even started using it yet, and they're asking for money right from the first page. I haven't even looked at the app properly, and yet they want money.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. Matter can be used for free without starting a trial, and we also offer a free trial for Pro. We appreciate you giving the app a look.

### 1/5 — Keeps crashing despite all the trouble shooting

*2026-04-05, version 4.1.5*

I'm not able to use the app for longer than 30 seconds ago a time because it keeps crashing. I've trouble shooted it so clearly it's an app issue. It's very frustrating especially as I'm paying for use.

### 1/5 — Non-Existant Support

*2026-04-02, version 4.1.5*

I entered into a an annual subscription more that 3 months ago. My account was charged but the app never recognized the subscription. I have tried multiple times to reach Matter support but all efforts remain unanswered, accept one reply which said they couldn’t find my subscription. I replied to this but it still remains unanswered. Never experienced such lack of responsiveness. I thought this was a serious app but it seems I have been mistaken.

### 1/5 — Readwise Highlight & Tag Integration Broken

*2026-04-01, version 4.1.5*

The Readwise Highlight & Tag Integration Broken and has been for over 1 year.

There seems to be no energy to fix this feature.

The subscription isn’t cheap so it’s very disappointing that this hasn’t been addressed.

### 1/5 — Extremely glitchy

*2026-03-05, version 4.1.2*

I use this app because I like the way it reads articles while highlighting the text. Alas. That key feature is extremely buggy now. Several times in the past 2 weeks either it doesn’t work at all or it’s so slow that it’s basically pointless. It’s annoying that they charge $$$ for an app that they can’t be bothered to properly maintain.

### 1/5 — Export to pdf?

*2026-02-26, version 4.1.1*

Key feature. Big part of why I’ve been a premium subscriber for years. Gone now?

### 1/5 — Very unfortunate

*2026-02-17*

Shouldn’t have updated or deleted the app, since I can’t read anything now without a Pro subscription

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Lovely

*2026-08-05, version 4.1.13*

This app is a great alternative to doomscrolling, and has helped me read a lot more

### 5/5 — Reduced pro fee is appreciated

*2026-05-15*

The fee used to be insanely high and now it’s much lesser

Thanks for this guys

Appreciate it

**Developer response:** Thanks for the kind words. Really glad the updated pricing feels better.

### 5/5 — Essential

*2026-05-14, version 4.1.9*

I’m a longtime read-later app user, from Feedly to Reeder to Instapaper and beyond. I’ve been using matter since it launched a few years ago, and it’s surpassed them all. I love its ability to redirect newletters so my mailbox stays clean. It allows me to save, favorite, and highlight my favorite articles and newsletters. Its AI “readers” are the most natural and “listenable” I’ve experienced. It provides a beautiful reading experience. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

### 5/5 — Simple, powerful, reading queue

*2026-05-06, version 4.1.9*

Matter comes to fill the gap after Pocket closed down, and I love its simplicity and useful features. Finding things to read in the discover or related articles section is nice. You can also add newsletters or rss feeds.

Adding things to read later is simple as using the share sheet anywhere on iOS or via browser extensions for other devices. With premium you get a natural sounding voice reader, article summaries, highlights, search and no limits on the archive. I like sending links from google news or social sites to fill the download queue for stuff to read later.

### 5/5 — Made by people who care

*2026-04-13, version 4.1.7*

Great app in general.
For me, the speech-to-text was the deciding factor. Seems like a pretty common feature, but Matter is far better than any other app I tried.

### 5/5 — The worthy Pocket replacement

*2026-03-22*

I loved Pocket and couldn’t find anything clean and pleasing enough once it closed down. And now I have Matter and I love it.

### 5/5 — Best way to convert content to audio

*2026-03-12, version 4.1.3*

Great product that allows me to save news articles from multiple sources, and provide text to voice playback from a saved queue.

Saving works great with paywalled articles, but the caveat is that if you are on ios, the paywalled article must be brought up in Safari to allow the full article to have text to voice playback. For desktop systems, the Chrome extension works with paywalled articles.

### 5/5 — Better than Readwise

*2026-03-12, version 4.1.3*

For my use case (listening to articles), this is so much better than readwise reader. Rarely it gets messed up on the TTS.

### 5/5 — Best read later app

*2026-03-01, version 4.1.1*

I’ve tried several different apps but Matter is the prettiest and best interface.
I just always go back to Matter.

### 5/5 — love it

*2026-02-22, version 4.0.9*

makes it realy easy and intuitive to have all my newsletters in one spot. reduces clutter and actually makes me wanna read them
