However, the interface could be improved to be more like the Wiim app or Jplay — more intuitive with radio support. ### 3/5 — Very Good - A Few Rough Edges *2024-07-17, version 3.3.108* Good; It can find an Arcam SA30 on the network as well as a B&O speaker. It streams high res Tidal to an Arcam from its own app. The native Tidal app is better than the one in the Arcam app and does high res FLAC which the Arcam doesn’t. You can control volume through the app. Bad; A touch slower than some renderers but not much. It only does landscape. Really, it should cope with portrait and landscape. Internet Radio seems to be absent. I don’t know if this is user error but I can’t find anything. This very close to being a full 5*. The absence of Radio is a big issue. ### 4/5 — New issue *2024-03-26, version 3.3.101* Was a great player and still is mostly. But a recent update (can’t remember when it started) has caused a new problem. After playing an album all the way through, the very last track is cut short but a few seconds, spoiling the end of the whole thing. ### 3/5 — Good but…. *2024-01-16, version 3.3.97* Using mconnect to send music via UPNP to my streamer as its hands down the best qaulity for high res audio on Qobus. HOWEVER it consistently turns the volume back down when i turn it up via all methods in small steps. I have no idea why its doing that and its extremely annoying. ### 2/5 — Consistently Degrading Reliability *2023-09-07* I would have submitted a support ticket if there was a link that anyone could share, like through the app maybe? Huh? Why isn’t there? This app started out like a buggy mine field a few years ago, got better, and now appears to have the same issues as earlier releases. It will consistently crash when trying to play an album to a renderer after hitting the play button. It will crash when going to queue and pressing play after selecting a different renderer. It will hang when trying to play playlists. All from Qobuz and the native app for Qobuz has none of these issues with its playlists. So, big problems with reliable connection to a renderer and then intermittent success. Going to switch to a Node and be done with this patch-work nonsense. If this app was reliable I could probably get at least 5 years more out of my Yamaha gear, but not with this crap going on. ### 4/5 — A godsend *2023-09-03* This app allows me to stream HD music from Qobuz and TIDAL which is fantastic, especially after Oppo stopped supporting their remote app. The only thing I wish they would add would be album cover pics as I like to see them on my TV. A small but aesthetic thing I miss. I also wish I could access my USB drive attached to the Oppo as their own app did, but I realize that’s asking a lot. I also think the GUI would be more elegant, but that’s another small quibble. Bottom line is this thing was a life saver for me and will continue to be until I purchase and newer receiver and/or Bluetooth streamer. My partner thinks wifi is bad for her, so she wants it permanently turned off. Rather than argue with her about it, I have found a workaround by installing ethernet ports in key areas around the house. Also, in order to play to my older Oppo, I have always had to turn on wifi. But up until recently, I always had to turn on wifi in order to access the streaming from mconnect HD. The good news is, all of a sudden, it now seems to stream perfectly thru my ethernet connection to the Oppo. So nice because I can listen to music while maintaining the peace. Thanks so much mconnect people. If you have a Naim 272 or Atom, this means you can send Tidal and Qobuz to your devices without using the Naim app - and get 24 bit / super hi res content. If you stream, it’s a no brainer! Interface is an acquired taste, but works! ### 3/5 — Could be much better *2022-12-10, version 3.3.79* Punch list for developers: Add scrubbing of the file being played. Improve stability of communication to renderers. Improve search capabilities to include categorical filters. Remove the button that maxes out the volume!!!!! Do not auto-max volume….ever! Happens at times and if not discovered can blow powered speakers. Simplify how Favorites are managed. Things make no sense and it’s never clear if I should expect favorites to appear in Qobuz, which they don’t even when in the Qobuz interface in Mconnect. So how is it different than just MConnect favorites? ### 3/5 — Doesn’t anybody play albums anymore? *2022-09-18, version 3.3.77* It would be perfect, except it takes 53 clicks to queue an album. Navigate to the queue, click clear, click OK, browse to the album, click on add, click on queue, click on select all, click on done, click on ok, go back to the player, click on play. Would it be that hard to have a “Play now” on an album like a sane music player? ### 2/5 — Seriously flawed user interface. *2021-12-23, version 3.3.61* This is a technically impressive tweakers delight, and an annoying experience for anybody who is more interested in playing music than in seeing what sample rate they’re streaming in. The number a selections you have to make to just play an album without playing one track is idiotic. To find the album (search is hidden fir who knows what reason) then hit play on the whole thing then switch to queue to be able to bounce around without it just playing one track is INSANE UI. Maybe spend a little more time listening to music than you do analyzing it or impressing your friends with your sample rate. C’mom Qobuz, get a connect feature going so I can ditch this bizarre app. These interface issues are in so many comments… why not address them??? ### 2/5 — Great when it works *2021-05-11, version 3.3.44* This is dat two of ownership. I had a few crashes on day one but otherwise fine. Today, it took a few goes for it to find my Denon 8500 and crashed four or five times this morning. This afternoon it won’t find the Denon at all. It may or may not crash if it does. A real pity as I had high hopes for this. Running wired Denon, Qobuz & Tidal - if I could find the AVR. ### 2/5 — Background battery drain *2021-01-17, version 3.3.39* If I do not close the app it runs in the background forever and drains battery constantly, even if playback is stopped. Battery and bg process management needs some tweaking. ### 4/5 — Does not work for my use case - YMMV (see update) *2020-12-17, version 3.3.38* I was hoping to use this app in order to stream Qobuz to a Marantz ND8006 streaming CD player. Oddly, it worked well for a brief period (a few minutes) when I first installed the app. However, the next time I tried to use this functionality it completely failed. I have deleted and reinstalled the app but no luck. At this point the app does not see the streaming device at all. I am hoping a future update will fix things, but I am not that encouraged since I suspect that part of the problem is due to the pretty horrible HEOS app that Marantz uses. My suggestion is that anyone who wants a streaming device for use with Qobuz should probably avoid Marantz until their software sees Qobuz natively. UPDATE. As a result of updates to the app and iOS I am now able to stream Qobuz on the Marantz streamer. There are still a few quirks in how it works, but it gets the job done. Thanks. ### 1/5 — Very disappointing *2020-09-29, version 3.3.31* Stops after one, maybe two, tracks. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Does NOT connect to any of my Chromecast devices - crashes immediately *2023-12-30, version 3.3.97* What a piece of garbage software from Conversdigital I’ve installed on my iPad-Pro 12”. It crashes frequently, which at this time, no other apps are doing on this iPad running iOS v17.2.1. It plays music files stored on the iPad thru the iPad’s speakers OK, but crashes when asked to connect to visible and working fine Chromecast speakers on the same WiFi network. If I wanted to play music locally thru the iPad’s built in speakers I would have run Apple Music. Instead I purchased mConnect Player HD to send music over WiFi to my Chromecast speakers …. Which causes this awful app to crash immediately. Until Conversdigital fixes one of mConnect’s fundamental features - DO NOT purchase the app. Meanwhile I am going to try to get my purchase refunded. UPDATE — Discovered I can use GoogleHome app to stream Pandora to my Chromecast speakers without issue, so just avoid mConnect Player if you want to stream online music to Chromecast speakers. ### 1/5 — Steadily going downhill with no updates for ios *2023-09-21, version 3.3.89* I don’t know if it’s because there hasn’t been an update in a very long time to keep up with iOS updates, but this app is increasingly unstable and unreliable. I have had to resort to using airplay1 to my Yamaha renderer rather than using mconnect. Looks like a Bluesound Node is in my future since this app has become unusable. Every time I try to stream Qobuz playlists through mconnecthd it crashes or hangs. Using the Qobuz app works fine for the same playlists. Something in the network protocol within the app isn’t compatible with ios since 15.x. At 16.6.1 it’s absolutely useless. ### 1/5 — Still unusable, after dozens of updates *2023-09-10, version 3.3.89* I paid for this wretched piece of an app. Only because it is still the only option for getting Tidal to work with Neutron. This app freezes randomly, and has been doing so for YEARS, update after update, and irrespective of the hardware you run it on, or the OS version. I freezes, and if you are very lucky (about 10% chance), an app relaunch will get it going again. Otherwise, you’ll have to just wait until tomorrow, when it may decide to work again, for maybe half an album’s length. If you are lucky. If you are even luckier, it doesn’t crash, it just turns into treacle in front of your eyes. You can scroll through Tidal for some five minutes or ten, until every scroll has a lag of about 10 seconds. As an added bonus, the company is entirely unmoved by the reviews here. They just keep flogging the same broken code because hey, once you have forked out your dosh, who cares? ### 1/5 — For Tekkies only *2022-06-03, version 3.3.70* No instructions, no glossary, not for Newbies like me. ### 1/5 — No, they haven’t ‘fixed bugs’. *2022-05-01, version 3.3.68* As of 1st May 2022, this is still a very buggy app! I’m astonished there’s evidently no actual testing if this app being done, otherwise surely they’d have fixed the bugs by now. Used to use Mconnecthd on my ipad, send music from Qobuz to a raspberry pi, then onto a Benchmark DAC3, and upnp. Since the previous ‘update’ I now get regular disconnects and freezes. It’s infuriating. Rarely does a whole album play now. Does anybody know of a more reliable alternative to use? I’m through with this app now. Life’s too short! ### 1/5 — I have to pay for FEWER features? *2021-09-27, version 3.3.57* The free version of mControlHD provides cloud access to Deezer, vTuner, and Spotify. The paid version of mConnectHD does not, apparently. I have to pay for this version to be able to play to my Rendu device, but I don’t have half the cloud features of the free version, which can’t see my Rendu. Tell me how this makes sense. ### 1/5 — It’s unstable *2021-07-14, version 3.3.51* Sometimes it will list the UPnP devices on the network, most of the time it does not, which makes the controller pretty much useless. The two applications should be unified, iPhone and iPad, learn to code UI/UX the right way. Landscape and portrait mode have been available since iOS 3. For the rare case it works, it does what it’s supposed to do. But if it was just up to me, you’d be booted off the store for publishing unstable apps. All your apps exhibit the same behaviour… the iPhone ones too. ### 1/5 — 24 bit 192 khz Qobuz *2021-05-05, version 3.3.44* 24 bit 192 khz Qobuz at 500 mb download speed with Devialet Silver Phantoms cannot handle the processing and usual cutouts During playback. Unfortunately Qobuz doesn’t work directly with iFi so the only way to make it work is through mconnect. Frankly I expected a nightmare trying to get this to work, but everything went surprisingly well. Rather than mess with mconnect Lite I decided to spend the six bucks for the HD version as I listen to hi-res music and figured the HD version would probably help avoid other headaches versus using the free version. Long story short, I downloaded the app, signed into Qobuz, and to my surprise everything just popped up ready to go. It took me a few minutes to figure out the menu/search options, but once I was acclimated everything was there — all my playlists, favorites, etc. so I was off and running. And the best part — it sounds AWESOME. I’m beyond happy with this app, and I don’t get to say that about many apps. I don’t know what past problems have been and maybe issues have since been fixed, but my recommendation would be to spring for the HD version as my experience has been very positive — really the best 6 bucks I’ve ever spent. Well done to the creators of mConnectHD, this has firmly put serious doubt over my continual use of other platforms such as Roon. This app works faultlessly and found all my devices including my Asset6.6 server. The interface a very well considered and sorted. I use it on a 13" iPad Pro, it’s a joy to use. ### 5/5 — Superb Sound Quality and Hi Res Tidal for Naim 272 *2020-05-17, version 3.3.28* I have a Naim 272 streamer with Naim 555DR power supply. This MConnnectHD app sends a UPNP stream to the streamer that gives me Qobuz hires, which is not native to the older Naim streamers. It also gives me Tidal hires, which is not available with any Naim streamer. And both of them sound lovely. Thank you MConnect for creating a great way to get better SQ. A great value app that has made my system sing better than ever and brought me new aspects of the music I love that just were not accessible with the native software of my last generation Naim streamer. ### 5/5 — KEF streamer app replacement *2020-05-12, version 3.3.28* I’m using this app to stream Hi-Res FLAC from a NAS (miniDLNA) to my KEF LSX. I don’t want to pay a monthly fee on Roon, and this app is the best controller app so far. Very nice user-interface. I have the Lite version on my iPhone too. I wish the HD version includes both apps for iphone and ipad, so I don’t have to buy the app twice. I also experienced the playback stop after end of track, and need to press next track to move on to the next, I think it’s to do with iOS music player/Airplay.
