## What is MDit?

MDit is an agentic narrative editor: a document editor where you and an AI agent keep the context of many documents connected as you write.

The more writing you hand to AI, the less of each document you actually read. A change made in one doc stays as it was in the others, and the project slowly drifts out of sync. MDit started from those two problems. It reads your documents with you, points out where they disagree, and suggests fixes that you choose to apply. And it makes that writing sound like you.

Build your voice through an interview
- Pick what you're writing: work documents, product copy, fiction and worldbuilding, blogs and essays, meeting notes, or academic papers.
- Rate sentences from ChatGPT as dislike, neutral, or like, and note what you disliked if you want.
- Revise an awkward paragraph yourself, and MDit learns your writing habits from the edits.
- Check sentences written in the new voice, then save it.
- You don't need any existing writing. If you have some, you can let the interview refer to it.
- Assign saved voices to document types such as PRDs, policies, FAQs, and meeting notes. Chat writing and proofreading follow them.

Find where documents disagree, and review fixes as suggestions
- Mark decisions in your documents (prices, periods, dates), and MDit tells you when another document states a different value. Compare the two passages side by side.
- Ask ChatGPT to find conflicts across a project or selected documents, and see each conflicting pair of passages as a card.
- Fixes for a changed decision arrive as proposed changes. See exactly what changes, then apply, exclude, or ask for a rewrite, one at a time. Applied changes can be undone.
- Each decision keeps its change history and supporting documents.

Chat that reads your documents
- Ask a question and it reads the scope you choose (this section, this document, or a project) and answers with sources.
- Ask it to write, and it proposes a new document or changes to the current one. Draft the next document from the decisions and to-dos in your meeting notes.
- On Mac, connect an AI agent running on the same computer over MCP to read documents and send proposed changes. You choose what to apply in MDit.

Capture and organize
- Record a meeting on iPhone, and MDit finds decisions, questions, and to-dos in the transcript and saves meeting notes.
- Jot down a quick note, and MDit suggests the document and section where it belongs.
- Documents stay plain Markdown files in iCloud Drive or on your device, so other apps can open them.
- Works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

AI connection and terms
- MDit is free.
- AI features currently connect to ChatGPT. Sign in with your ChatGPT account, and AI usage follows the terms and limits of your plan. MDit does not sell AI credits.
- When you ask a question or hand off writing, the selected document content and your question are sent to OpenAI.
- Without ChatGPT you can still write documents, mark decisions and see where values differ, and organize notes. The voice interview, chat, and proposed changes require a ChatGPT connection.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 1.1.2 — 2026-10-30

New features have arrived in MDit.

Draw pictures with the OpenAI API
- Choose OpenAI API as the engine in Settings › Pictures and enter your OpenAI API key, and pictures are drawn with that key. The chat picks the right quality for each picture, and the cost is billed to that key's OpenAI account.
- Pictures can be drawn without a background, and Remove Background in the picture menu clears a picture's background on this device.

Documents in other languages
- Documents in languages other than Korean and English, such as Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish, are refined and proofread in their own language.

Also
- Connections between documents now show a distinct picture for each kind of relation, so the Links tab and the Link Map show at a glance what builds on what.
- Fixed a stutter when opening documents with pictures.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-10-26

MDit has been improved. Even the spacing and motion you might not notice got another round of polish.

### 1.1 — 2026-10-23

What's new in MDit 1.1

Pictures made on your device
- Draw character portraits and scene illustrations on this device. The picture model downloads once, the first time you use it, and needs a device with enough memory.
- The chat looks at each drawn picture and checks it against the scene and the character settings. Ask for a fix and it redraws in the same place; you choose whether to insert it.

Character voices for fiction
- Set each character's speech level, verbal habits, and how they address each other, and see them on the Characters screen.
- When the chat writes a scene, it reads the characters, the period, and the places for that chapter.

More ways to use tones
- More sample tones, and you can draft a new tone right in the chat.
- Set a tone for each document.

Table math and charts
- The app itself calculates totals and averages from your tables, shows them as charts, and proposes table edits.

The chat suggests the next step
- Buttons under an answer offer what to do next; tap one to send it.
- While an answer is coming in, you can add to it or queue your next question.
- Switch to another chat and the first one keeps receiving its answer.

Also
- Text written by the assistant gets a second check for missing negations and sentences that contradict each other.
- Attach an outside folder, such as a code repository, as a read-only reference.
- When a decision's value changes, MDit tells you which documents to review.
- Select and copy part of an answer.
- Choose which items to delete from the Trash.
