## What is Mealie Recipes?

Manage Recipes
Display ingredients and preparation clearly, including ratings and "Last Cooked". Own cooking mode: step by step through the recipe, conveniently check off ingredients while cooking. Instantly scale quantities (0.5×, 1×, 2×, 3× and more). Integrated timers with sound, notification and lock screen display. "Last Cooked" can optionally be synchronized with the server automatically.

Shopping List with Synchronization
Full synchronization with your Mealie shopping list and the server ingredient catalog. Check off products while shopping – updated directly on the server. Quickly add your own items, unknown ingredients are automatically created if needed. Import tasks from Reminders (iOS) or Google Tasks (Android). Completed purchases archived locally.

Cookbooks
Create and edit your own cookbooks directly in the app. Automatically filter recipes by categories, tags, ingredients, utensils, households or creators – with multiple combinable filter rules. Create public or private cookbooks.

Meal Plan
Maintain your weekly plan directly from the app and synchronize it with the server.

Leftover Management
Enter available ingredients and find matching recipes from your library.

Cook Together
Synchronize a recipe via LAN with other devices on the same network – steps and timers stay in sync for all participants. Send recipes directly to another device.

Recipe Upload with AI Support
Upload new recipes from photos, PDFs or via URL. The AI automatically recognizes ingredients, preparation steps and metadata. The target language for the import is freely selectable.

Multilingual Interface
Available in German, English, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese and Slovenian.

Security
App lock via Face ID / Touch ID or fingerprint.

Widgets & Smartwatch
Home screen widgets for active timers and open shopping lists. Companion apps for Apple Watch and Wear OS.

Individually Configurable
Login optionally via API token or directly with username and password – a token is then automatically created for you. Conveniently select household and shopping list via dropdown instead of typing IDs. Optional HTTP headers configurable. Light, dark or automatic appearance. Suitable for private and public instances.

Offline-first
Recipes, shopping lists and cookbooks are cached locally and work even without a connection – changes are automatically synchronized as soon as the server becomes available again.

### 1/5 — Potential, but not ready

*2026-08-01*

This app has potential but when it had to reload recipes from the server every time you open it, it becomes useless for any more than a couple dozen recipes.

**Developer response:** When the app is set up for the first time, it downloads all recipes from the server and stores them locally. You can also trigger this process manually if needed. If you experience any issues with caching the recipes in the app, please contact support via email or open an issue on my GitHub repository.

Works ok, the calendar is one day off. Also the import doesn’t let you choose the language. All my imported recipes are not in English.
