### 4/5 — Excellent, just missing some pieces

*2026-04-24*

Great UI, family sharing the purchase isn’t working for me. Unsure of how to get support.

Shopping list UI needs a little love, but overall the app and the purchase are definitely worth it!

### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2026-04-09*

Edit: the Shopping list feature seems a but buggy on my device. When the list is empty and I add the ingredients for a recipe it does not sync to the reminders app. Only when I manually create an item.

Also if I check an item in the Shopping list feature in the app, it gets checked. When I now add the item to the list again, it does not create a new entry, but add the amount nesseccary to the checked item? In the Mealie Webinterface it works though.

Additionally my iPhone 16 Pro the Header of “recipes” is barely there (“Re…”) because of the other menus in the same height. Not that dramatic though.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the detail and suggestions, I’ll look to improve some of this in the next release!

### 4/5 — Great (with a few additions)

*2026-03-31*

The app works great and is very smooth. Once a life purchase is a very good deal!

A thing I would like added are the bulk add and parse buttons for ingredients and the bulk add for instructions. Somehow it is not possible to add ingredients or units

**Developer response:** Thanks for the support, I'll look into your feature requests!

### 4/5 — Great App for Mobile Users

*2026-02-09*

App is a great way to use Mealie while on the phone. Option to sync with Reminders app is a HUGE plus.

Rating 4 stars because I think the lists could use some improvements.
- No easy way to see the checked items and uncheck them if you accidentally hit one.
- the plus/minus/trash buttons are nice but which they were not always on (or at least the trash icon and maybe just swipe to delete or something)
- when syncing with Reminders app a 0 comes over which I assume is the count. Probably should be 1 or null
- when selecting a recipe and adding to a list, it would be nice to have an check/all or uncheck/all button as sometimes I only need a few items from the recipe and don’t need to add everything

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback!

I think your first request there actually is implemented, there’s a “show checked items” toggle in the menu for a shopping list. If that’s not what you were thinking of let me know!

I’ll work on your other suggestions as well for the next release.

### 4/5 — Good, needs updates

*2025-12-26*

My recipes are written with markdown and some html which is supported on the web app, but needs support in the app

**Developer response:** I'm working on this right now, it will be ready in the next release which will go out in a day or two hopefully!

### 4/5 — Minor Issued

*2025-12-01*

Tried the paid features. I really wish the app would stay in my shopping list, but if I switch apps and return, it goes back to the main screen. This is very annoying when I am at the grocery store

**Developer response:** I will get this fixed in the next release! Thanks

### 4/5 — Bring sync option

*2025-11-18*

**Developer response:** Custom recipe action support is coming, stay tuned!

### 3/5 — It’s good, but not perfect.. yet?

*2025-10-27*

I am hesitant on buying this just based on first thing I tested was bugged, ingredients scaling.

I understand and support the process for funding this however I would polish up basic items before charging money for “premium items”

**Developer response:** This bug has since been fixed. The core issue was due to a recent Mealie change that removed a "use recipe amounts" flag.

### 4/5 — Missing Features, Still Best Option

*2025-10-27*

Love the app because it 1) works great and 2) allows family sharing for a small ONE-TIME price. But also missing some functionality. 1) Really missing an admin tab with the ability to modify mealie users, groups, households and settings. 2) image - recipe creation if an AI is connected to the instance.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the good feedback, I’ll prioritize these in a future release!

### 5/5 — Sehr funktional

*2025-08-22*

**Developer response:** Thanks for your support!

### 5/5 — Great addition to Mealie

*2025-08-18*

I can't believe how much I adore MealieSwift! After several months of use, it has officially become my ultimate go-to for accessing my Mealie container! The experience has been nothing short of fantastic, and I have to give a massive shoutout to the developer—working with them has been an absolute joy!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the support!!

### 3/5 — First Time Set Up Not Clear

*2025-07-25*

Looks really good, but doesn’t seem to sync any of my recipes. I bought the full app, and I can see my meal plan recipes, once I click on those they get added to the recipe list, but for some reason the full sync isn’t working. I’m using API login, is that the problem? Wish there was a little more documentation on setting things up.

**Developer response:** UPDATE! This has since been fixed in version 1.2.1. Thanks!

Original response: Can you email me with some more details on your setup? I’m working with someone else who is having a similar issue and have a fix in the works and I want to make sure it will resolve the issue for you as well. Email is ryan@northwestwebpros.com. Thanks!

### 4/5 — Great app, ingredient import bugged

*2025-07-14*

Overall loving the app over using mealie from a mobile browser. When I import ingredients to a shopping list from a recipe, however, the ingredients I deselect are still imported into the list. Fixing this would be a huge improvement!

**Developer response:** UPDATE! This has since been fixed in version 1.2.1. Thanks! Original response: Thanks for the bug report, I’ll look into this!

### 4/5 — Good but needs work

*2025-07-09*

I found this app after installing my Mealie server and I think it has a lot of promise. There are a couple of things I'd like to note:
1. Recipe scaling does not appear to work. The app allows you to change multipliers but does not apply them to the numbers in the ingredient list.
2. The Meal Plan is a neat idea but I'd also love to see a way to add a recipe to a meal plan from the recipe itself.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback!

#2 is definitely valid, I’ll add this as a feature in the next release.

For #1 I’m not sure I’m able to reproduce. I’m wondering if your recipes are using ingredient notes rather than “food mode”? You should be able to tell this in the recipe edit view if “Disable Amounts & Units” is checked. In this mode Mealie doesn’t have info on a quantity of the ingredients set for the recipe and as such scaling won’t work. I will improve the UX to disable recipe scaling if this setting is checked though for a particular recipe. If you have any questions I’m happy to help debug, just shoot me an email at ryan@northwestwebpros.com

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Paywalled previously free features

*2026-04-02*

Good app — but not updated recently and then took free features away behind a pay wall. Bought them but you’ll get one star for the effort of the bait and switch

**Developer response:** The paid features of this app were never free, except in the initial TestFlight period when I was actively developing it and seeking input. Also, I regularly plan feature updates and am actively working on another update of the app now.

### 1/5 — Won’t connect

*2026-01-04*

No matter how I enter in the address to the front page the app WILL NOT connect to my server. I can access it just fine from any webpage by the port and login. After taking my money this app stopped connecting and broke.

Just use your browser.

**Developer response:** This is the first I’m hearing about this issue, and am not able to reproduce it. I’m guessing there’s something that has changed in your self hosted environment. Can you please reach out via the feedback link in the App Store and I’d be happy to help debug with you!

### 1/5 — Greed.

*2025-09-01*

Putting features of the FREE open-source server version behind a paywall on the mobile app is diabolical. Do better.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. I've tried to be very up-front about the paywall in the app description here. My thinking is that I will be supporting this app for the long haul with bugfixes and improvements all with the goal of giving a high quality user experience that isn’t possible with the web app. With the vast amount of time I’ve spent on this I’m really making almost no money here. Yes some features are paywalled, but caching and viewing your recipes locally is free and there is a one-time purchase option that I feel is reasonable ($10 with family sharing for anyone in your Apple family) or there is a reasonable subscription option at $5 a year which I don’t feel is unreasonable and would have happily paid it when I first started using Mealie if this had existed at the time.

### 1/5 — Broken

*2025-07-02*

This app does not work at all.

### 1/5 — Monetizing off of free features

*2025-06-25*

I really wanted this to be a good app but honestly the UI is plain and not as good looking as Mealie looks on the web, and if that were all that was wrong with this app I’d give it a 3/5 stars. But this guy just had to make pretty much every feature locked behind a paywall…. Keep in mind that these features are all included for free on your self-hosted web version. Save your money for some kitchen gadgets and just add the PWA to your Home Screen (please google PWA if you don’t understand and prepare to have your mind blown and money saved)

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. My thinking is that I will be supporting this app (and have been making continuous improvements to it based on user feedback) all with the goal of giving a high quality user experience that isn’t possible with the web app.

### 1/5 — Cash grab

*2025-06-16*

Not sure what the point of locking OPEN SOURCE software features behind a paywall… Monetizing other people’s work is laughable. This app would just be a convenience but just use the web app it’s not that inconvenient.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback. ### 2/5 — Leider funktioniert nur das Anzeigen der Rezepte

*2026-01-02*

**Developer response:** I haven’t experienced this but am trying to reproduce it! Please reach out via the feedback link in the App Store and I’d be happy to help debug.

### 2/5 — Great UI, but misses the point

*2025-06-23, version 1.1.1*

Mealie.io has long waited for a native iOS app and I was very excited to see posts about this. I checked it out and the UI really is great. However it was sad to see some basic functionality was locked behind a subscription of all things. Considering the selfhosted nature of mealie, it’s my opinion that this goes strongly against the philosophical views of the communities using this. I’m all for supporting the developer community, and would happily pay for the app where nothing is locked. 3 stars for the launch of a great app, still. But I’ll be sticking to web/PWA.

### 3/5 — Okay

*2026-04-12*

Decent app but I find it a bit crazy that the dev decided to lock the ability to add new recipes behind a paywall. The app is built on top of FOSS after-all..

### 3/5 — GuterStart

*2026-03-04*

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The best!

*2026-04-01*

This is the best mealie app I have tried. It is missing a feature or two but the developer was very responsive to feedback. Looking forward to the continued development

**Developer response:** Thanks for the support!

### 5/5 — App is Great

*2026-03-25, version 1.9.4*

I am glad that this app brings more native feel than it does on the browser and does almost everything I need when using on mobile and if not I can always hop over to the browser.

With the latest update to Mealie supporting Video imports like YouTube and Instagram, it would be nice to see some feedback back when importing urls. It shows some feedback in the website but these imports take longer and it’s hard to tell if it’s working or how long it’s taking when the screen is just still after hitting import.

Is there a place to send in suggestions rather than in a review? It would be great to send in some feedback and possible features.

### 5/5 — Great App - Responsive Dev

*2026-02-20*

I don’t often review apps, but this one truly deserves the credit.

The developer has been incredibly responsive, both in swatting bugs and implementing feature requests.

I’ve been using it for about a month now, and the progress made so far is looking very positive.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the support!

### 5/5 — Beste App für Mealie aktuell

*2026-02-02*

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review! In the shopping list view you can hide checked off items in the “…” menu. And then there’s a button to delete all checked items as well.

As far as the name goes I agree, it’s maybe not the best, but you’d be surprised at how many people DO actually care about the technology behind the app. I always prefer an app written in SwiftUI over those written in a third party library like react native.

### 5/5 — The app I wanted. The app I needed.

*2026-01-14*

This is a rare treat. My wants and needs satisfied in the same product. As a former chef I cook by feel and whim more often than not, however there are some staple recipes I go back to over and over. By going to the same site, over and over. As a home lab enthusiast Mealie was a beautiful solution, and this app complementing the mobile experience (where it matters most in the kitchen) is fantastic. The one time licensing fee is incredibly fair, and the family sharing is awesome. Thank you for this app!

**Developer response:** Glad you are enjoying it, thanks for the positive review!

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-12-20*

Works great for my use case. Thanks for building this.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the positive review!

### 5/5 — Works great

*2025-11-05*

Works really well and makes using it phone my phone so much easier.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the support!

### 5/5 — Top

*2025-09-17*

Endlich eine App! Funktioniert sehr gut mit meinem server :)

**Developer response:** Thanks for your support!

### 5/5 — Great app, lots of potential

*2025-09-15*

The only thing I can think of that I still need a solution for is grabbing recipes out of Instagram or TikTok videos.

Maybe some on device LLMs in iOS 26? Just an idea.

Thanks for your hard work and no data tracking.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the ideas and support! Unfortunately, I don't personally have an iPhone that supports apple intelligence, but if that changes, I'd love to get into those features.

### 5/5 — Top

*2025-08-23*

**Developer response:** I just found out today that some breaking changes were made in Mealie version v3.x that I didn't know about. A fix is in the works!
