Meal planning with kidney disease can be challenging, especially when it comes to balancing different nutrients. Often this means looking up nutritional values in tables, following rules of thumb such as 'potassium is in fresh fruit and vegetables' and coping with difficult to agree requirements such as 'high protein but low phosphate'.

To help you make your diet simple and effective, we have developed mealy. Here's how it works:
1) Tell us your kidney stage and any other health factors. 
2) You will receive a precise calculation of your nutrient requirements.
3) We suggest 60 suitable recipes every week.
4) You choose what you feel like eating and receive a suggested meal plan and shopping list.
5) Cook and enjoy!
And best of all: you always have an overview of the nutrients relevant to your kidneys.

*How well-founded are the calculations?
We work with a team of experts in the fields of nephrology, nutritional science and therapy. Our work is based on the latest scientific recommendations, including those of the German Society of Nephrology, the American National Kidney Foundation and the internationally independent non-profit organization KDIGO (Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes).

*How do you select the prescriptions?
Recipes are suggested based on your health information. In addition to your CKD stage and the associated official nutritional recommendations, other factors play a role (e.g. hyperkalemia, allergies, seasonality) and new ones are constantly being added so that our suggestions fit you perfectly! The app has potential, but it’s not there yet. You receive weekly new recipes, but unless you favorite them and add them as your daily meal choice, there is no other way of saving recipes. You pick breakfast, lunch and dinner meals and at the end the app will tell you if you’ve exceeded any of the important nutritional values like protein, sodium and potassium. It would be nice if they had a quick choice selection where three meals were put together to make the nutritional balancing easier. Finally, today, for some reason, the daily percentage amounts of the important nutritional values disappeared. For example, I have no idea what daily percentage of protein the strawberry and banana smoothie has, making it very difficult to make I formed lunch and dinner choices. Overall, I’ve discovered some great, new menus, but there is room for improvement.

What we changed for you:
1) We moved the nutritional information of the recipes to the top and highlighted the CKD-relevant nutrients. (Some people stopped reading after the ingredients because they thought it violated their CKD diet.)
2) There was a small mistake in the calculation of your fiber needs. The required amount is now slightly lower, which also affects the energy-providing carbohydrates. The target for those is now a bit higher.
3) We did some small layout improvements.
