### 4/5 — Game-ified organic chem!

*2020-08-30, version 1.21*

This app is awesome and helped me understand substitution/elimination reactions when i just wasn’t getting it. Explains when you move electrons incorrectly, and most puzzles have a video to help you if you need it.

My only wish is that there was stereochemistry as well (wedge/dash etc) because that is missing here.

### 3/5 — Good but still needs work

*2019-01-13*

Need more levels and at time instructions

**Developer response:** Thanks for your feedback. We are working on both of these.

### 5/5 — The App for Learning (and Teaching) Organic Chemistry

*2018-03-27*

This app has merged two all-to-often disparate attributes of educational tools: good science and good artistic / design. Although Alchemie is still in the process of refining their approaches to this design, this app synthesizes theory with an intuitive approach that makes chemical principles much more palatable for the student. Give the app a serious try; it is sure to become indispensable for first and second year chemistry students (and teachers too!).

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — This is so bad

*2025-02-25*

I can’t pull apart electrons without them recombining and there is only 4 things to do other than to learn how to play

### 1/5 — Wrong about certain things

*2025-02-23*

It’s a cool idea. Thought it would be fun, but if you want to learn just pirate a text book or something.

### 1/5 — L

*2025-01-12*

How do I play this game?

### 1/5 — No

*2021-11-12*

This app is the worst thing to ever exist.

### 1/5 — Not worth it

*2021-05-11*

Horrible app, doesn’t teach you anything. Too difficult to maneuver too. Not worth your time.

### 1/5 — This is so stupid

*2020-03-30*

This game is the worst game on the net I can’t bond the two stupid things and it doesn’t show you anything on tutorial and oh and I’m gonna delete it and play Duolingo and geometry dash

**Developer response:** We are sorry to hear that you are having a problem with the app. We would like you to contact us at support@alchem.ie to solve this issue right away. We hope to hear from you soon!

### 1/5 — Absurd

*2019-06-20*

Purchased full access to the app for $9.99 but still hasn't enabled full access

Need to submit a dispute

**Developer response:** Hello arjun90,
We are sorry to hear that you are having a problem with the app. We would like you to contact us at support@alchem.ie to solve this issue right away. We hope to hear from you soon!

### 1/5 — NO ASSIGNMENT CATEGORY

*2019-01-25*

I enrolled into my course, my app is up to date (1.14), and I STILL cannot see the assignment category for my course.
Dr. Hamilton at OBU is my professor.

### 2/5 — Might as well make it 13.99

*2021-03-06, version 1.21*

There is no point of it being free because you need to pay to unlock the solutions

### 3/5 — Great design but where are the updates for paid users

*2022-09-11*

One of the best organic chemistry apps -maybe the best- and the look is so nice which is why I bought the full version, but now I have not received any updates that increased the content, lessons, or features. Where are the promised updates that was included as a perk for buying the app? I'll change my rating is I get new levels like the feature list mentioned as an added value for the paid version.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — It won’t let me make an account!!!

*2025-06-18, version 1.22*

This is my first time downloading this app and I have read good things about it but it keeps giving me an error message whenever I try to make a new account so I can’t even do anything!

### 5/5 — It taught me what textbook could'nt

*2023-12-24, version 1.22*

I always had difficulty understanding mechanism and needed an interactive way of learning it. Now I feel more confident that ever! I wish I had this app earlier.

### 5/5 — Underrated application that every chemistry student should have

*2023-11-23, version 1.22*

I downloaded this app during the middle of my A levels and it has remained useful all the way up to second year undergraduate organic chemistry. I would recommend purchasing all the levels, it will supplement your organic chemistry learning. Most reaction mechanisms you learn will on paper will be available on the app. For £10 it really is a bargain. I just wish they made some more levels.

### 5/5 — This app is absolutely amazing

*2023-05-19*

WELL WORTH THE PRICE FOR FULL VERSION. I took organic chemistry 1 and 2 from a nationally recognized and feared professor in the US, and passed top of the class. I give a good amount of credit to this app in all honesty. The mechanics of the reactions are so perfectly designed to get the user to see how and why things happen in reactions. For example, the app forces you to show resonance stability in certain situations where it’s helpful to understand that the reaction ONLY occurs because of the resonance stability. I recommend turning off the hints/goals option once you get the hang of things to really test your intuitive orgo skills. If you put in the work and invest yourself fully into organic chemistry, this app will absolutely help you understand and visualize reactions better. I also recommend going back to reactions you’ve passed in this app and predicting products on paper before doing it on the app if you’re using it to study. I love how the app is broken into sections like pi systems and carboxylic acid reactions. These are common sections that lecture based courses are often broken into as well. 10/10 love this app and I love organic chemistry more because of it!!!

### 5/5 — Amazing app for those who are new to organic chemistry

*2022-12-06*

I find this app to cover all bases in terms of basic organic chem with puzzles instead of flash cards teaching reaction such as substitution, elimination and Pi systems while teaching important ideas like formal charge and acidity ( both bronsted lowery and Lewis )
Would definitely buy again

### 5/5 — Foundation of something great

*2021-01-21*

The work to make this complete is daunting but I have ideas that can make this a powerful tool and more enjoyable challenge. I reached out on LinkedIn. Please connect so we can have a conversation.

### 5/5 — Fantastic App

*2020-06-15*

I am absolutely loving the app so far. I do think that more content would be great, but it is absolutely a game changer for students. I just got an A on my first mechanisms exam basically by reading the Wikipedia articles for each and playing with this app.

Also, I will say that the one-star reviewers could learn to be a little more constructive with their criticisms. Sure, problems can be frustrating, but calling this the “worst app ever” and “so stupid” is a little juvenile for people who are supposedly adults in a college level science course.

**Developer response:** We are pleased that you enjoyed the app. If there is anything we can do for you, just let us know at support@alchem.ie! Have a wonderful day!

### 5/5 — Builds an intuition for how electrons flow

*2019-09-26*

This app is incredible.
Almost all of the students that I tutor have trouble understanding mechanisms and instead of trying to learn them, they try and rely on raw memorization. Although it’s technically “possible” to memorize every reaction in Ochem, it’ll be 10X the amount of work and be 10X less useful then just learning how electrons flow. And fortunately, this app teaches you just that.
Those who use this app will be able to see and more importantly “feel” how reactions work. The more puzzles in this app that you complete, the more intuitive organic chemistry starts to become. I would 100% recommend this app. It’ll cut hours out of your study sessions and you won’t have to second guess if the arrows you are drawing are correct. It has helped me and all of the students I’ve talked to who have it get through Ochem 1 and 2. Give it a shot!

**Developer response:** Thank you for this great feedback on the Mechanisms App. We are glad to hear that you and the students you tutor, find this app helpful. Please let us know if you have any questions about the app info@alchem.ie. We are always happy to help.

### 5/5 — An organic chemistry grade saviour

*2019-03-15, version 1.16*

Such a insanely well done app, it helped me a lot with organic chemistry tests. It would be nice if it could quiz you as well or add some more problems with no hints.

### 5/5 — Great application

*2018-12-16, version 1.12*

Very useful application, moving electrons by physically directing them via a game like this definitely reinforces the mechanisms into memory better than drawing.

I’m hoping this helps me with my exams. 🙂👍
