Some doctors are impossible to find by name, they selectively post documents and have admitted to the being 15,000 public disciplinary documents missing and they only discipline about 4% of the 10,000 complaints that consumers file. Most of the others end up in the tag. They protect doctors over consumers with their doctor majority board. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — An App Should Not Be Required!! *2025-12-31* Looking up the medical license of any California doctor should be a function of the website. It should not require the downloaded of its app!! That is how it used to function at least up until 6 yrs ago when looking up doctors’ licenses was a daily responsibility of my employment! There is no logical reason benefiting the user. Obviously, it only offers benefit to the agency which I assume is for targeted marketing purposes. I’d rather go back to a time when obtaining info costed me money, as opposed to costing me my privacy! **Developer response:** Looking up Medical Board of California licensees is available from our website. Please see the "Check up on you Doctor's License" panel prominently displayed in the middle of our home page at https://www.mbc.ca.gov. The benefit of this application is to prevent users from having to routinely visit the website to search for the licensees that they are interested in. Using this application, you can search for your licensee and add up to 16 of them to your "My Providers" list and receive notifications when changes to their status and other attributes are detected by the app without having to search them again manually. License profiles are viewable directly from the "My Providers" list, saving the user from having to perform repetitive searches. No identifying information is collected for marketing or other purposes. Thank you ### 1/5 — Cannot “Follow” licenses as advertised *2025-11-04* The website advertised this mobile application for following medical licenses and being notified of any change in status. After contacting customer service, I have now realized that you can only follow licenses for physicians and surgeons, and that’s it. No way to track Behavioral Board licenses or any other types. So I just downloaded this app for no reason. **Developer response:** The new version of the application released recently will allow you to follow any license types issued by the Medical Board of California. The Medical Board of California doesn't have jurisdiction over license types issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or other organizations. Very frustrating. And there’s a limit to how many I can follow - also frustrating. Will not be using this app - bummer. ### 1/5 — Interesting idea but terrible data *2018-08-17* Terrible app because all it does is show their terrible website. I looked up several doctors that I know have had discipline and the app showed nothing. Another doctor I couldn’t find at all. They also don’t explain that this only works for certain doctors licensed with the medical board itself but not the other boards like podiatrists, dentists, osteopaths, etc. most don’t know that there are separate boards and who belongs to which board. I see, too, that the boards own lawyer, Kerrie Webb, gave the app 5 Stars. No conflict if interest there! ### 1/5 — Could be good, but *2018-07-31* I found my primary care doc just fine, but it was all downhill from there. A few simple enhancements would make an enormous difference: make it so you can search without having to specify what kind of license your doctor has, e.g. I should be able to find my osteopath, my family doctor, and my rheumatologist without specifying a category. Another fix: a simple ‘back’ button to take me to the previous screen. And another: instead of forcing me to assign my own term to a doctor whom I’m following, default that selection to the doctor’s name. I think of them by name and don’t want to assign some artificial phrase when following. And a bug fix: I successfully followed one doc, but trying to follow another using the same path, assigning a name, and tapping follow, failed multiple times. Uggghhh. Should not be so difficult. **Developer response:** Thank you for providing your feedback. All Physician and Surgeons licensed by the Medical Board of California are searchable through the app. When clicking on the magnifying glass from the "Following" list, the license type is preset in the DCA Search interface to only display Medical Board of California Physician and Surgeons. Osteopathic Physician and Surgeons are licensed by the Osteopathic Medical Board of California and you can find more information about their licensees at http://www.ombc.ca.gov. You can go "back" on any screen in the app by using the standard "swipe-right" gesture used in most iOS application. A conscience decision was made to omit a "back" button in favor of the gesture so that the in-app tutorial "?" button could be displayed on as many screens as possible. Please give the "swipe-right" gesture a try and let us know if you have any problems. As for the description popup when adding a Physician and Surgeon to your "Following" list, that description is completely optional. The popup appears and if you just simply hit "Follow" without providing a description, the name is stored with just the standard name and license information. In regards to having trouble following an additional Physician and Surgeon, can you provide any additional information as to what error you encountered so we can troubleshoot further? I tried to update my work address: it didn’t let me get to the screen to login to the breeze system. I was able to do this via safari web browser on iOS. ### 2/5 — Failure to include D.O.s *2022-05-21* Both my wife’s and mine primary physicians are D.O.s.
