But, when I was told that I could get urgent virtual medical care by installing the MEDSTAR e-visit app, I never would have guessed how easy this would be. Additionally, the professional provider who spoke with me knew almost immediately what I needed. From my own sick bed I got immediate care and a prescription sent to a 24 hour pharmacy. The doctor was polite, professional and knowledgeable. It was also a pretty quick process which was another plus. So, not sure about that…. We had some technical difficulties with our connection toward the end of our e-visit and were disconnected. The provider immediately called me to continue the visit. I explained my symptoms several times to the provider. I also let her know my concerns, with not being able to come in person. I have had these symptoms before and let the provider know this and felt I was completely ignored and she diagnosed me based on a scale that is generic and isn’t the same for everyone. 1/5 stars. Provider: Sindy Motta ### 1/5 — Not helpful *2026-06-03, version 16.1.1* MedStar does not allow providers to order any testing if you’re seen on this app. This app is a waste of patient time and a waste of provider expertise. ### 1/5 — Used to be good *2025-04-08, version 16.0.0* I use my insurance. Now, they try to charge me $79 plus bill my insurance. I have no copay with my insurance. I called my insurance to make sure nothing changed, and they said that they shouldn’t be charging me! Telehealth from MedStar appears to be a quick and inexpensive alternative to a doctors visit The website and app says you can pay out of pocket for a flat $79 fee or use your insurance. But there is a note that says it may be less or may be more if you use insurance. We used it earlier this year for a pink eye infection for our child. What we didn’t realize was MedStar charges insurance the same for the online visit as an urgent care visit. They billed our insurance over $400 who then applied almost all to our deductible since it was early in the year. So we ended up with just under a $400 bill for a 4 min eVisit. That’s $100 a min. So depending on where you are in the year and deductible you might want to think hard about using this app vs a normal doctors visit. ### 1/5 — Cut off in the middle of visit *2024-02-05, version 12.20.009* . ### 1/5 — they have no internal communication *2024-01-04, version 12.20.009* the doctor i saw on this app instructed me to go to an urgent care center for a followup test, and informed me that the urgent care center would have my information and that I wouldn’t have to wait. when i arrived, the center had no information on me (despite my main doctor being through medstar), and expected me to wait 3 hours to restart the process of seeing a doctor. this app wasted my time and money, and i still have to go find a doctor. ### 1/5 — Glitchy *2021-12-28, version 12.10.006* I waited from 12pm to 4:30 to see a provider. I kept getting bounced around from doctor to doctor, sometimes it would go from 14 patients ahead of me all way back up to 19 patients ahead of me. The app quit on me when it said I was next patient to be seen at 3pm, so I had to rejoin and wait another hour and a half. I wasted an entire day waiting while simultaneously nursing a newborn. ### 1/5 — App doesn’t work *2020-07-13, version 12.0.627* Consistently not connecting - 2 hours being transferred from “waiting room” to “waiting room” as “the next to be seen”, only to have the app, or program (tried app, as the web application wasn’t working either) stall at “you are next to be seen” within 15-20 minutes - then nothing. It seems their claim that you see a provider “in minutes”, is loosely defined. It’s a wonderful service they (MedStar) are providing, but e-visit app and online has been executed poorly. I only made it through by finally calling the customer service number. ### 2/5 — Unreliable *2019-10-25, version 11.4.301* The application crashes constantly. I was starting an appointment and it crashed while I was just waiting. No place for feedback in the app that I can see. I use iPhone 8 256 Gb of memory. Latest os and updates. Disappointing as I had to figure out if I was going to charged for the crashed visit. Unfortunately I was skipped four times for the waiting room by different providers without explanation. It would say my visit was loading and then match me with a new provider.
