### 1/5 — Not functional

*2025-11-14, version 2.1.3730*

Stuck in a login loop. Might as well just log in on the website because this app doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — Poor Functionality

*2025-10-06, version 2.1.3730*

This app requires different sign-ins for account needs versus portal needs. Those two items should be more integrated.

### 1/5 — NOT the MedStar Patient Portal

*2025-09-12, version 2.1.3700*

There’s a link to the portal, but it requires logging in an additional two times.
It shouldn’t take three tries to logon to the portal.

### 1/5 — Worthless-update

*2025-07-08, version 2.1.3640*

Update/ so…. Developer got back to me asking for more feedback. Unfortunately the link asks for provider and facility feedback, not website feedback. Guess they don’t really pay attention to feedback.

Doesn’t show most information. Can’t see labs. Don’t see the point of this app. It is just a link to the website.

I like MedStar. It is just unfortunate that the web site is not very good and the mobile app is terrible. MyChart is an example of how it should be done.

### 1/5 — Patronizing, user-unfriendly

*2025-07-06, version 2.1.3640*

Its most important message — call 911. It logs you out unnecessarily frequently, it doesn’t have my log of iBloodPressure, etc.etc.

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2025-07-03*

Doesn’t show most information. Can see labs. Don’t see the point of this app. It is just a link to the website. MyChart is an example of how it should be done.

### 1/5 — Can’t log in!

*2025-06-24, version 2.1.3640*

Despite deleting this app and reinstalling it, I still cannot see any of my patient information when I log in. If I log in using the website it’s all there, but nothing using the app.

### 1/5 — This is the worst set up

*2025-03-12, version 2501.01-CV1*

Round and around, trying to make an appointment and I keep getting kicked out and having to sign in again. And why do I have to sign in on one app to have to sign in on another.

### 1/5 — Confusing

*2025-02-12, version 2501.01-CV1*

VERY confusing, redundant, morass

### 1/5 — App issue

*2025-01-29, version 2501.01-CV1*

For some reason I can login on the website and not the app. I’ve tried on multiple occasions by now. Also, why do we have to create a profile when logging into the patient portal? That makes 0 sense.

### 1/5 — Trash

*2024-12-06, version 2.1.3490*

Can hardly log in. States password and username do not match however after third try it works. Cannot download any documents or even send to email. Just garbage.

### 1/5 — Why are there two apps or sites for the same information?

*2024-11-26, version 2.1.3490*

This makes no sense. Why create an app to provide access to a website? User has to enter access information multiple times. Useless UX.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2024-09-04, version 2.1.3390*

When log in the app then has to log in again patient portal . I mean this very frustrating that this could be way simpler but they choose not to . Please follow kaiser or other app at least you can have an idea how to design a simple app

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Useless app

*2026-07-27, version 2.1.3840*

Why did anyone in Medstar bother creating a useless app? I still have to the web site to view my records or any information of interest. What an utter waste of time. Do not install this.

### 1/5 — MedStar is the worst and this app is too

*2026-07-14, version 2.1.3840*

MedStar makes it impossible to contact your doctor directly. You cannot message, email or call the doctor or their staff. Instead, all communication gets routed to middle level staff who are overwhelmed, don’t have access to necessary information and ultimately fail to relay communication in an effective or efficient way. It’s a failed process with the worst user experience you can imagine for a hospital system this large. I’ve been trying to call and message my primary care doctor for a week and nothing in return. Can’t even ask a question about prescriptions that weren’t sent. It’s unbelievable an organization that has this much money is so dysfunctional and fails its patients so royally.

### 1/5 — Terrible Integration

*2026-06-25, version 2.1.3840*

This app doesn’t naturally integrate with my existing account. It wouldn’t take my existing credentials. I was forced to create another account that is tied to nothing. There is no history. I have click a link that takes me to the mobile version of the website to login, gain access to my account, and perform any functions. The app is useless in this format.

### 1/5 — Unable to login using the patient portal option

*2026-06-11, version 2.1.3840*

I can login on the website for the patient portal but when using the option in the app, I get a blank page and doesn’t login.

### 1/5 — Terrible design

*2026-06-05, version 2.1.3840*

Different passwords for billing and the app, terrible integration, locking out of the billing after iPhone tries to use the stored password

### 1/5 — Worst Hospital I’ve ever been to

*2026-05-19, version 2.1.3840*

We have been waiting for SEVEN HOURS in the emergency room, and we are STILL waiting. My husband has a deep open wound in his hand that needs stitches and they just don’t care. His fingers have already gone numb and the pain is nonstop.

If there was any opportunity to stop an infection, well, we’ll never know now. The front desk has been absolutely zero help. They have a 20-person team for lacerations, and there have been no more than 5 people with cuts.

You’re telling me that in SEVEN HOURS they could not take care of them? This is absurd.

### 1/5 — Username not email

*2026-05-07, version 2.1.3840*

This doesn’t work for me at all. I can’t even login. When you setup the acct online you can’t use an email address as username. But this app will only accept a email not a username. Booo. What a waste. The KP app is a million times better.

### 1/5 — Horrible App Experience

*2026-04-08, version 2.1.3840*

The login experience is embarrassingly bad. It’s been several years and MedStar hasn’t simplified the auth handoff between the app and the patient portal for messaging. It’s frustrating and induces unnecessary friction when trying to message doctors.

### 1/5 — Logging into patient portal is challenging

*2026-02-06, version 2.1.3800*

After my initial login why am I prompted with patient portal details again for login. Also, once logged in it is on like a new tab of browser instead of using the same frame to project the data. It’s a bad UX design.

### 1/5 — Medstar

*2026-01-23, version 2.1.3730*

Medstar

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Ease of use

*2023-08-31, version 2.1.3180*

Very user friendly app and scheduling process

### 3/5 — Horrible experience

*2025-07-20, version 2.1.3640*

Never has my password correct. Very difficult to manage. Takes at least 45 mins to get to right place.

### 3/5 — Password requires frequent resetting

*2024-12-05, version 2.1.3490*

My password/ username is frequently not recognized and requires resetting. Sometimes locking me out of the app for 24. I appreciate security, but this feels like a technical glitch.

### 3/5 — Bad execution

*2024-11-09, version 2.1.3490*

This app could be great but there are a couple major problems—it cashes often and it’s hard to find items in the many subcategories.

### 3/5 — Adequate. Kludgy. Frustrating. Not for everybody

*2023-09-11, version 2.1.3180*

Improved. Hardly ideal. Serves 2 functions: 1) provider lookup. 2) portal access. Portal access is like an app within the Medstar app. Happily, they've made it so you don't need to log in twice. Finally.
Unfortunately, since the portal is like an internal app, you can't get notifications about new messages (from doctor, lab etc) you've received.

### 2/5 — Appointments?

*2026-04-25, version 2.1.3840*

Cannot see any upcoming or past appointments. Using the same credentials that I use on the website. Need to click on the “go to patient portal” button that seems to just open the website. What’s the point of this app?

### 2/5 — Not It At All

*2026-02-23, version 2.1.3800*

This thing might have everything you need to keep up with your health care provider but it is too clunky, slow, and confusing. Definitely need to go back to the drawing board and make it simplistic. Then add more features without removing the necessary ones. Absolutely feels like it’s two incoherent apps in one. Definitely love Medstar but their IT needs some serious help.

### 2/5 — Pretty much useless

*2026-02-03, version 2.1.3800*

Crashes often, uploading to digital wallet doesn’t scale properly or crashes. Insurance options don’t reflect reality.

### 2/5 — Meh, hope the care is better than the tech

*2025-10-31, version 2.1.3730*

Multiple times I’ve attempted to use the app to book appointments with doctors I’ve seen or have been referred to in the system and they don’t show up in the search.

If I have a referral inside medstar that I’m supposed to book, how is that not both given to me as an option, plus given to me as a call out top option or notification?

No ipadOS app?

We don’t use the email keyboard on a field that says to enter your email when logging in?

We don’t forward credentials to another internal medstar system for booking and make the user log in a second time?

### 2/5 — Opens to a blank page

*2024-08-21, version 2.1.3390*

Unable to see the landing page. Opens to a blank screen.
