## What is Megahertz™?

Megahertz is an audiophile-grade music player for your local library. No streaming. No subscriptions. No ads. Just your music, played exactly how you want it. Now on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Silicon Macs.

BUILT FOR DISCERNING LISTENERS
Connect a USB DAC for bit-perfect playback when its sample rate matches the file. Megahertz passes your music through untouched, so you hear exactly what the artist intended, clean from file to output whether you are on reference headphones or a hi-fi setup.

PARAMETRIC EQ
Go beyond presets with a full parametric equalizer: adjust frequency, gain, and Q for each band. Save custom profiles for different headphones or rooms, and import AutoEQ profiles from the community catalog via URL.

YOUR LIBRARY, ENHANCED
Megahertz reads metadata and artwork straight from your files, then fills the gaps with artwork from iTunes and MusicBrainz, synced lyrics via LRCLIB, and genre suggestions from Discogs and MusicBrainz. Browse by Songs, Albums, Artists, Genres, or Composers, and build smart playlists.

PRIVACY-FIRST
No accounts. No tracking. No data collection. Your music stays on your device.

Megahertz is a one-time purchase. No in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no data harvesting. Just a music player that respects you and your privacy.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### v1.7 — 2026-06-17

Megahertz v1.7 is a major polish, performance, and feature update.

NEW
• Mono Audio. Fold the mix to mono for one-earbud or one-ear listening, right from the Now Playing controls.
• Smarter genre fetch. Finds real subgenres with no key or setup, and falls back to on-device analysis when no catalog has your album.
• Customizable Now Playing buttons. Show or hide each control in Settings > Interface.

IMPROVED
• Volume normalization is roughly 50x faster, so scanning a whole library takes minutes instead of hours.
• Crisper haptics throughout, with tick-by-tick feedback while scrubbing and adjusting the EQ.
• Tap the artist or album on Now Playing to jump straight to it in your library.
• Smoother browsing: moving between an artist and their albums no longer stacks up screens.

MAC
• A proper menu bar with keyboard shortcuts for playback, tabs, sorting, search, and import.
• Mouse back and forward buttons navigate the library.

ALSO
• Important reliability fixes, refreshed Help, and under-the-hood polish.

### v1.6 — 2026-05-27

Megahertz 1.6 fixes how compilations are organized, adds a new way to browse your library, and polishes playback throughout.

• Compilations and soundtracks no longer split apart. Releases with a different artist on every track now group into one album under "Various Artists," the way iTunes and Apple Music handle them. Each track still shows its own performer. Existing libraries are repaired automatically the first time you open this version.

• Smarter album naming on import. A track with no album tag that sits in a generic folder (like "Discography," "FLAC," or "Studio Recordings") no longer turns that folder name into an album title.

• Grid or list, your choice. Every library tab (Albums, Artists, Songs, Genres, Composers) can now show as a grid of cards or a single list. Set it in Settings -> Interface.

• AutoEQ import made easier. The headphone EQ importer now accepts either pasted EQ text or a ParametricEQ.txt link, so presets from autoeq.app import in one step.

• More reliable volume normalization. A scanning bug had been skipping many tracks silently, leaving normalization with nothing to apply. That is now fixed. If you enabled normalization in an earlier version, open Settings -> Experimental Features -> Volume Normalization and tap "Clear & Rescan All" to re-measure your library.

• "Repeat One" fixed. Repeating a single track no longer slips to the next song while the title stays put.

• Add a whole album to the queue. Use the album's menu or press and hold an album to queue every track at once.

• MiniPlayer gained a previous-track button next to play/pause.

• Refreshed in-app Help with corrected setting paths and new topics, plus assorted Mac and interface polish.

Thanks to Camille for flagging the compilation grouping and Repeat One issues, and to everyone else who wrote in.

### v1.5 — 2026-05-02

This update focuses on stability and polish:
• Improved Bluetooth headphone playback. Pausing and resuming on AirPods and other wireless headphones is now seamless with no delay.
• Lock screen and Control Center stay perfectly in sync when skipping back to restart a track.
• Fixed issues where shuffle mode, accent color, and album-art theme settings wouldn't apply immediately.
• Improved reliability of library migrations and metadata editing.
• Minor UI improvements to the MiniPlayer and Search.
• Now available on Mac via the Mac App Store. (Hopefully for real this time)

### v1.4 — 2026-05-01

- Fixed compatibility with Apple Silicon Macs
- Rewrote shuffle engine — smarter queue management, no more duplicate tracks, and better bulk removal
- Fixed audio interruptions and headphone route changes during crossfade
- Added Reduced Motion accessibility support throughout the app

- Improved first-launch onboarding with clearer import options
- Play counts now shown in smart playlists (Most Played, Top 100)
