## What is Mello?

Mello is a calm, fast tracker made specifically for people living with gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying) — not a generic food diary.

WHY MELLO IS DIFFERENT
• Gastroparesis-native: log meals by texture (liquid → puree → soft → solid), fat, fiber and portion — the things that actually affect a slow stomach. No calorie counting, and no FODMAP logic (that's the wrong model for gastroparesis).
• Gastric-ease analysis: every meal gets an on-device "how easily this empties" score, so you can spot gentle vs. heavy meals at a glance.
• Symptom Score built in: rate the symptoms that define gastroparesis — nausea/vomiting, fullness and early satiety, bloating — weekly, plus a 30-second daily check-in, and watch your trend over time.

LOG IN SECONDS
• One-tap meal templates for the 6–8 small meals a day you actually eat.
• Symptom logging that auto-links to your most recent meal.
• Water with a daily hydration goal, weight, blood glucose, bowel (Bristol), stress and sleep.
• Back-date anything — log this morning's meal this afternoon.
• Record the meals you COULDN'T eat, and why. A meal you were too full or too nauseated to face is data; a gap in the log is not.

SEE WHAT HELPS
• Safe / Caution / Trigger foods list, grown automatically from your own log.
• "Better days vs worse days" insights linking sleep, stress and hydration to your symptoms.
• When-symptoms-hit time-of-day breakdown and weight-trend safety watch.
• What actually helps YOU: after an episode passes, one tap records what got you through it, and Mello ranks what works for you specifically.

EATING OUT AGAIN
• Menu Scan (Pro): snap any menu and Mello flags every dish against YOUR safe and trigger foods — plus the cues that matter for a slow stomach (fried, creamy, raw). Processed entirely on your phone; the photo is never uploaded.
• A shareable dining card explains small portions and gentle preparation to the server, so you don't have to.

BUILT FOR YOUR DOCTOR
• Generate a monthly Tolerance Report: symptom trend, meal-tolerance matrix, safe foods & suspected triggers, nourishment check, weight trend, medication timing, and a one-page summary with suggested questions.
• Export it as a PDF to bring to your GI appointment.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• Your meal and symptom logs stay on your device and sync through your own private iCloud. Meal photos never leave your phone.
• Only an anonymized summary is sent — and only when you choose to generate a report.

MELLO PRO
• Free — genuinely usable: log everything, your Safe/Caution/Trigger foods, the "are you eating enough?" check, Safety red flags, insights and trends, 30 days of history, and a full monthly Tolerance Report for your doctor.
• Pro ($5.99/month or $39.99/year, 7-day free trial): Menu Scan for every restaurant menu, per-food deep-dives (when does a food sit well?), med trials (is a new medication actually working?), your complete history beyond 30 days, and PDF export. Every Pro feature has a free taste — first menu scan each month, your top food's deep-dive, and your first med trial are free.

Mello is a wellness and self-tracking tool. It does not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice. Always consult your clinician about your symptoms and treatment.

### 2/5 — Really don’t like this app

*2026-07-18*

I don’t like that I can’t adjust the times my meals are at (it send me a reminder an hour after I go to bed, thanks super helpful). I don’t like that I can’t set the liquid measurements to ounces instead of milliliters. I see how other aspects could be useful for GP patients like myself but honestly I find the mealtime issue really off putting.

**Developer response:** You were right on both counts. Version 1.4 is on its way to the App Store: meal times are
now fully editable — any hours, overnight included — and reminders follow only the times you
set. Fluid can be shown in fluid ounces throughout (Settings → Hydration), and glucose in
mg/dL or mmol/L. Reminders are also capped at three a day and skipped for meals you've
already logged.

Thank you for writing it out rather than just deleting the app. Settings → About Mello now
has a direct email if anything else gets in your way.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4 — 2026-08-19

Mello v1.4 — the update about logging costing you less, and Mello finally reading it back to you.

YOUR MEAL TIMES, NOT OURS
Set each meal time yourself, add or remove as many as you like, and Mello reminds you at exactly those times and nowhere else. Odd hours are welcome: set 5am or 11pm and Mello will respect it.

MILLILITRES OR OUNCES
Pick your unit in Settings and everything follows — the hydration ring, the quick-add buttons, Nutrition and the widget. Switching is safe at any time; nothing you've already logged changes.

LOG WITHOUT OPENING THE APP
A Home Screen and Lock Screen widget: your day at a glance, and one-tap Meal and Water buttons that log straight from the widget. Built for the days when unlocking your phone and finding a form is more than you have.

LOG THE MEAL THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN
A meal you were too full or too nauseated to face used to look exactly like one you forgot to log. Now it's two taps to record it, with the reason — because being unable to eat is information, and a gap in the log is not.

WHAT ACTUALLY HELPS YOU
Mello could say which foods precede a bad day; it could never say what ENDS one. Now, after an episode passes, one tap records what got you through it. After a handful of answers, Mello shows which one works for YOU — nothing works for everyone with this condition.

FAR FEWER NOTIFICATIONS
At most three a day, never before 8am or after 9pm, merged when a medication reminder lands near a meal — and silently skipped for any meal you've already logged. Mello will not tell you to eat twenty minutes after you told it you had.

NOTHING TO BREAK
The streak counter is gone. In its place, seven quiet dots — a day you didn't log stays empty and nothing else happens. Come back after time away and Mello says your data is safe, then offers to mark those days as a flare, so your worst days are recorded instead of vanishing.

A WEEKLY RECAP
"Your week" tells you your easiest and hardest day, how the week compared with the last one, and one real win — so logging always gives something back. It never comments on a quiet week.

A GUIDE TO EVERY FEATURE
Tap ? on Today: every feature, grouped by tab, each with a gentle animation and the exact taps to reach it. Pro items say so up front, with their free allowance. All motion respects Reduce Motion.

PRO NOW THINKS ABOUT YOU DAILY
A morning outlook read from your own patterns — why today may be gentle or need extra care, and what has helped you before. Every line cites your own numbers, and it never predicts pain: it compares last night against the days your own log calls gentler. Free every Monday; every morning with Pro.

A FAMILIAR PATTERN, BEFORE IT ARRIVES (Pro)
Mello learns the shape of the days that led into your own past flares, and quietly says so when the last few days look the same. Not a diagnosis and never an alarm — urgent red flags stay free, always, and are never behind a subscription.

SUGARS AND SYMPTOMS ON ONE CHART (Pro)
About a third of gastroparesis is diabetic, and there the two drive each other. Mello now draws your glucose against your symptom burden on the same days, in mg/dL or mmol/L, and can pull readings in from Apple Health.

SEE PRO BEFORE YOU BUY IT
Every Pro feature now has a worked example you can open and read first — a real screen built by the real engine, clearly marked as sample data. Nobody should have to buy a description.

YOUR DATA IS YOURS
Export everything you've logged as a CSV, free, forever. Years of tracking should never be held hostage by a subscription.

ALSO
• Blood glucose in mg/dL or mmol/L — pick yours in Settings
• Weekly and monthly reminders are now opt-in toggles
• An About page — email the developer directly from the app
• Bigger, clearer text throughout — the type now starts at iOS's own reading size
• Weight in kg or lb, chosen from your region on first launch

### 1.3 — 2026-08-09

Mello v1.3 — the update about logging costing you less.

Mello only ever recorded what you ate — so a meal you were too full or too nauseated to face looked exactly like one you forgot to log. Now it's two taps to record it, with the reason. Nutrition counts it and names the reason it happens most, because being unable to eat is information and a gap in the log is not.

WHAT ACTUALLY HELPS YOU
Mello could tell you which foods precede a bad day. It could never tell you what ENDS one. Now, after an episode passes, one tap records what got you through it — resting, heat, small sips, lying on your left side. After a handful of answers, Mello shows which one works for YOU, because nothing works for everyone with this condition.

In its place, seven quiet dots for the week — a day you didn't log stays empty and nothing else happens. Come back after a few days away and Mello says your data is safe, then offers to mark those days as a flare, so the worst days are recorded instead of vanishing.

A WEEKLY RECAP
"Your week" tells you your easiest and hardest day, how the week compared with the last one, and one real win — so logging always gives something back. It never comments on a quiet week.

A GUIDE TO EVERY FEATURE
Settings → "How Mello works" lists all 34 features, grouped by tab, each with a gentle animation, the exact taps to reach it, and what it's for. Pro features say so up front, with their free allowance. All motion respects Reduce Motion.

YOUR DATA IS YOURS
Export everything you've logged as a CSV, free, forever. Years of tracking should never be held hostage by a subscription.

Plus: bigger, clearer text throughout — the type now starts at iOS's own reading size.

### 1.2 — 2026-08-04

Mello v1.2 — the update about eating ENOUGH, not eating less.

POINT IT AT ANY MENU (Pro, first scan each month free)
Snap a photo of a restaurant menu and Mello flags every dish against YOUR safe and trigger foods — best bets first, with reasons. Everything happens on your phone; the photo is never uploaded. Plus a shareable dining card that explains small portions to the server for you.

ARE YOU EATING ENOUGH? (new tab, free)
Most gastroparesis patients get about half of what their body needs, and being under-nourished makes symptoms worse. Mello now estimates your energy, protein and fluid from what you already log and tells you when you're falling short. No upper limit — it will never tell you to eat less.

SAFETY (new tab, free)
Red flags from your own log, ER Mode's one-page hospital summary, medication week-counters, and gastric-emptying-test prep.

IS THAT NEW MED ACTUALLY WORKING? (Pro, first trial free)
Start a trial when you begin a medication: Mello compares your daily check-ins before vs after and gives you — and your GI — the answer.

WIN A FOOD BACK (free)
Mello spots foods branded by a single bad day and builds a careful retry plan, so your diet can widen again.

ALSO
• Log in one line: "half a bowl of oatmeal, nausea 6"
• See how long after eating your symptoms really hit — you may be blaming the wrong food
• Cycle tracking, dark mode, accessibility-checked colors
• Honest trials: we show the exact timeline and remind you before you're charged

### 1.1 — 2026-07-14

Mello v1.1 — the update about eating ENOUGH, not eating less.

ARE YOU EATING ENOUGH? (new tab)
Gastroparesis quietly starves people — most patients get around half of what their body needs, and being under-nourished makes symptoms worse. Mello now estimates your energy, protein and fluid from what you already log, and tells you when you're falling short. There is no upper limit and it will never tell you to eat less.

SAFETY (new tab)
Red flags from your own log — like not keeping fluids down — plus ER Mode: a one-page summary for a triage nurse showing what you've kept down, how many times you've been sick, what you've already taken, and what worked for you last time. Mello also counts the weeks on medications that have a limit, and checks your meds against gastric-emptying-test rules so your test isn't wasted.

WIN A FOOD BACK
A trigger list can only grow — and that quietly shrinks your diet to a handful of foods. Now Mello spots foods branded by a single bad day and builds a retry plan stacked in their favour: small, soft, at your calmest time of day, timed with your prokinetic.

LOGGING THAT DOESN'T COST YOU ENERGY
Say or type a whole line — "half a bowl of oatmeal, nausea 6". One tap to repeat your last meal. And on a flare day, a 3-tap logger that asks only what matters.

PATTERNS THAT ACTUALLY EXPLAIN YOUR DAYS
See how long after eating your symptoms really hit — usually later than you think, which means you may have been blaming the wrong food. Track your cycle too: symptoms measurably worsen in the two weeks before a period.

ALSO
• Dark mode, at last — for 3am, and for hospital waiting rooms
• Every colour reworked to meet accessibility contrast standards
• Everything worth finding is now in a tab, not buried in a menu
