### 5/5 — James Kellyb

*2026-02-01, version 2.0.5*

One of the best mapping software apps on y to market

Easy to use 😊

### 5/5 — The best OS maps.

*2026-01-05, version 2.0.5*

I used to use actual maps and this is better than having to carry maps. So many people who are map readers like tradition paper maps. This bridges the gap as you can have them all in your hand. You have to plan ahead but once you’ve downloaded what you want if you’re going to a remote area with no service but if you are you should be prepared anyway.

I’ve tried a few as I worked in outdoors and this is the best by far.

### 3/5 — Good but

*2026-01-05, version 2.0.5*

It’s 2026 and still no way to change the maps from North up to route / trail up when navigating. It is ok to say rotate your phone or tablet but it’s useless on a cars display.
Seems like the app is still in the 1990s.

### 5/5 — Good for purpose

*2025-12-29*

If you want the official paper charts in your pocket this works very well with additional functions like waypoints and marks. For the price it’s a great reference when I want to see the original UK nautical charts.

### 5/5 — Os maps at your finger tips

*2025-12-26, version 2.0.5*

Not perfect, but really good. Access to a range of maps but os1:25 & 1:50k in particular. I plot my route in the app then export to gpx to import into garmin connect as garmin takes you on footpaths off road. I plan walks and scenic motorcycle rides. In the car, when faced with queues, I can often find detour routes on minor roads. It invaluable for me.

### 5/5 — Good mapping software

*2025-12-20, version 2.0.5*

We have used Memory Map software for a number of years as find it really good for tracking our walks.

It’s great that you can download the maps so you can use it offline, as plenty of places we go have poor or no mobile signal.

GPS works great on my iPhone XR.

Only complaint is I can’t close MemoryMap4All using the swipe up function on my iPhone, so I have to select exit app, which then gives a prompt of ‘are you sure’. That feels clunky compared to the earlier version I am used to.

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2025-12-18, version 2.0.5*

I have used Memory-Map for about 25 years for marine navigation using Admiralty charts and OS maps for walking. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Fantastic mapping software!

*2025-12-18, version 2.0.5*

First started using Memory Maps in June 2011, and it’s proven itself over the past 14 years.

This is the best software and mapping for anything from touring to outback remote travel. Very accurate and easy to use with a variety of maps including HEMA 4WD Maps.

Memory Maps saved me when I was lost in the middle of the Simpson Desert, when satellite network was down.
Only issue is it’s not interfaced for Apple CarPlay …
Keep up the great work Memory Maps Team!

### 5/5 — Excellent Resource.

*2025-11-30, version 2.0.5*

Easy enough to use once you get the hang of it. Very reassuring to have in your pocket without having to struggle with a paper map in the wind and rain.

### 3/5 — Great, just a few bugs

*2025-10-23, version 2.0.5*

I love this app.

However currently its very difficult on iOs to use the app switch feature to swipe sideways on the very bottom of the screen (or upwards to go to home screen). This makes it impossible to switch apps quickly, and it also messes up the centring of the map 😕.

Also the dynamic island doesn’t show live events such as navigation instructions from apple maps, music playing etc.

Would be great if both those could be addressed.

### 3/5 — Was Good but Now Buggy

*2025-09-16, version 2.0.3*

Have used for years but recently an error message started appearing on startup saying “didn’t close properly and data may have been lost”. I reported it a few weeks back and was told a fix was imminent with an app update.
It’s still appearing today so I messaged again and got the simple response “join the beta programme”. I don’t really want to become an outsourced employee - I just want the app to work or be told when it will be fixed…

### 3/5 — Good app, but CarPlay missing

*2025-08-28, version 2.0.3*

Good app for off-road navigation in Australia, NZ, Uk and U.S. but it is time to get CarPlay.. there is not much progress going on

### 3/5 — A Good App for Navigating

*2025-08-21, version 1.3.1*

This is a good app for creating and following routes in serious mountain and marine environments. The map quality is the best I have seen.
It’s not an intuitive app to use though so you need to spend some time learning how to use it before you go outdoors and find you can’t get it work how you want to. It’s probably one of the best apps that I am aware of, including the OS map app and Outdoor Active.
Very little development of the apps though over the last 20 yrs in terms of usability.

### 5/5 — Memory Map

*2025-08-17, version 1.3.1*

I’ve used various Windows based mapping software over the years, but after moving to Apple I needed something new. Memory Map has proved to be ideal and syncs perfectly between MacBook, iPad and iPhone. I use it for project planning my photography projects, and for routing in the field. It has become an important part of my work.

### 5/5 — Plain language instructions

*2025-07-18, version 1.3.1*

The text and language of instructions for this very capable app reads like it was written by a very capable human.
Well done for a great mapping tool.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-07-15, version 1.3.1*

Works well. I use it to view hema 4x4 maps.

### 4/5 — Almost perfect

*2025-07-13, version 1.3.1*

Having tried and tested several apps, this one does (almost) everything we need. Good local maps at very good price. Good and easy set up of fav places and waypoints.
Things that could be better - ability to have the map follow the travel, make the app CarPlay compatible.

### 5/5 — Best map app I have ever used

*2025-06-22, version 1.3.1*

Very reliable and works extremely well

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — extortion

*2025-01-28, version 1.3.1*

while it seems to work fine. for this app to work you need to purchase hema maps, that’s where all their BS starts! they harass you with emails and messages saying your purchase of hema maps need to be purchased again when once you buy hema maps it is yours forever and full life time updates. why hema associates with these extortionist is beyond me.

### 1/5 — Seems bad

*2024-12-16, version 1.3.1*

I don’t know why this has such positive reviews. It seems very poor. Nothing is really working on my iPad. Even the free road atlas is just terrible and either too tiny or too pixelated to be useful, depending on zoom level. Not usable.

I haven’t tried loading my own maps into this app yet, so perhaps that’s where it shines.

### 1/5 — Been with Memory Map for decades now useless

*2024-09-25, version 1.3.1*

I’ve spent a lot with Memory Map. Now my maps wont download onto my new devices. Contacted Memory Map UK and they say they have had lots of complaints like mine. No support whatsoever, don’t buy this app.

### 1/5 — Frustrating

*2024-07-13, version 1.3.1*

There is nothing intuitive about using this App. It is so frustrating. The Help function is useless. Dreadful. Long time customer desperately looking for an alternative now.

### 1/5 — Buggy on iPad and zoom limits usage.

*2023-04-21, version 1.2.1*

Downloaded this and bought HEMA maps based on reviews hoping to find something on iOS close to OziExplorer. On iPad I can’t get gps location as telling me location services not enabled despite having all location settings enabled. Tried uninstall, reinstall, reboot etc. nothing works and no further options available. On both iPad and iPhone, due to the raster maps the app limits your zoom ability to maintain legibility of the maps. This was severely limiting when I tried using the app to locate some trails dealing with distances in 100-200m as the scale kept popping back out to 2km. Seems the answer is to get more detailed maps of which there is none for the area I was in. Further, for some reason, max zoom would take me to a 1:250k map instead of the 1:150k map covering the same area so now had to turn off the auto map change on zoom.

### 2/5 — Disappointing

*2024-07-02, version 1.3.1*

A horrible piece of software from the 90s it seems.

### 2/5 — Over complicated and clunky

*2023-09-09, version 1.2.1*

Not a patch on the original app. Menu system clunky to use and doesn’t actually close when ‘close app’ is selected (still sits in background).

### 2/5 — No Map auto orientation

*2022-11-21, version 1.1.3*

Initially I was happy as the mapping is great and I liked the opportunity to have a perpetual licence. The big fly in the ointment for me was that that map doesn't orientate to direction of travel. So it would not work for me as I wanted to mount it on my bike handlebar. So I had to request a refund, which was done without fuss.

If they include the track orientation I will try again. In the meantime, I can only give it two stars as it is such a big issue.

### 3/5 — Descent wish they’d put some work in

*2026-07-19, version 2.3.2*

Decent and stable. Though once they did decide to cancel all my nautical charts without warning mid voyage. This app has been around for ages so it’s hard to understand why parts remain so poorly designed. Like printing maps, not having a ruler, the utterly awful method of plotting and editing routes and the Kafkaesque challenge of searching through years of digital App Store folders trying to work out which one you own. Come on guys.

### 3/5 — Reliable but not always up to date

*2026-07-05, version 2.3.2*

Although still the most stable offline nav tool, it’s getting long in the tooth. I have been hiking and travelling in remote places, Vic High Country and other national parks, the maps are getting pretty outdated now. Wouldn’t mind buying an updated map. Not a subscription. Also, when most cars now have Apple carplay, this is a sore missing feature as the map is only enjoyable on a bigger screen. So once again: solid app, great offline tool. More recent updated maps should be available even if Apple Carplay is not going to be an option, new Explorer maps are needed. The Topo maps are fine but the bigger Explorer 4WD maps are old. Give us some options please!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great Navigation & Plan

*2026-07-18, version 2.3.2*

Great app, I use for both mountain biking and off road with the Jeep. Great for both planning routes and navigation whilst out 👍

### 5/5 — Great value for money Land or Sea

*2026-07-06, version 2.3.2*

Weather you use the free base map or pay for O/S maps for a year or UK Nautical charts for navigation at see this app is great. O/S maps can be available for the whole of the Uk as can the Nautical charts.

I used the Nautical charts to navigate a friend's Yacht into Dartmouth, when his navigation system failed a mile out to sea.

I've used the app with o/s mapping around the UK from mountain to feild. Can't fault it.

For both o/s and nautical you can create routes and waypoints.

For Nautical navigation the charts are excelent. But don't forget to download them before venturing off shore beyond the cellular network range. Nautical side is basic but accurate. You have to pay a lot more to get better.

### 5/5 — Good functional app

*2026-07-04, version 2.3.2*

I use MM for sailing and having tried many of the other well established as well as up and coming apps, I still keep coming back to MM.
It is easy to use and well thought out. I like being able to easily plan trips on my PC and then sync routes for final adjustment on my iPad when on board. I can then easily manage and monitor the passage.
Only downside is the AIS integration, which is ridiculously expensive.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-05-15, version 2.2.1*

This is the best there is, you can trust wherever you go.
I fully endorse this mapping app.

### 5/5 — Nice mapping tool

*2026-05-10, version 2.2.1*

Does just what I need and does it nicely

### 5/5 — No demands to subscribe to content are welcome

*2026-04-14, version 2.2.1*

I appreciate that Memory Map allows me to use mapping I have paid for without constant prompts to subscribe to the opportunity to access paid for content.

### 5/5 — Reliable and useful

*2026-04-13, version 2.2.1*

Great app-use it constantly for adventure motorcycling. Fantastic on the tablet for route planning.

### 5/5 — One of the last non-subscription mapping options

*2026-04-04, version 2.2.1*

If you want OS maps or similar, Memory Map may just be the last bastion of subscription-free options. I moved when ViewRanger died and have not regretted it. The presence of desktop and phone versions is great too. My only regret is that the historical maps are no longer available as I would love to have access to those. Seeing how the landscape changes over time can be fascinating. If you want a good mapping application that supports multiple maps, this is probably your best option on iPhone.

### 5/5 — The best

*2026-03-18, version 2.2.1*

Easily the best mapping app I have used. And over the years because of my job I’ve used most. I can easily switch between OS maps and Admiralty charts. It’s also easy to take a bearing and get a distance, quicker than I could do with a paper map and compass. I still carry a compass and print out of the area I’m working in as a backup but I can’t remember the last time I had to use them. Most other mapping apps involve lots of menu to do those basic features which can be a challenge when the touch screen is wet. This app can do it in a couple of touches.

### 5/5 — Best maps ever!

*2026-02-26, version 2.0.5*

This is by far the best mapping app I’ve ever found, record tracks, save tracks, points of interest, everything and anything!! Sensational.
