### 3/5 — Repetitive

*2026-08-25, version 2026.8.10*

I know to learn you need to repeat but I did teşekuler 1000 times but learnt a bit keeping it too

### 4/5 — Script font is tiny

*2026-08-24, version 2026.8.10*

Generally, I like the app however when learning a script like Farsi the font is extremely tiny it’s very hard to see! Please make it bigger!! Also have practice for Script writing like Duo-lingo does for Hindi script it’s so helpful
When you have no experience with those characters to learn the alphabet too.

### 2/5 — التطبيق مخربط

*2026-08-23, version 2026.8.10*

بي الكثير من الازرار يدوخ خلو نضام التطبيق بسيط و على شكل لعبه

### 2/5 — Bad audio

*2026-08-22, version 2026.8.10*

The audio stops working. I have to stop in the middle of the session to close the app and reopen it for the audio to work again, which makes me lose my track.

### 3/5 — A

*2026-08-18, version 2026.8.10*

It’s not my favorite app for Korean, but it works well and I like it

### 3/5 — Misleading lifetime content

*2026-08-16, version 2026.8.10*

I just upgraded to lifetime today. My app hadn’t been updated in a while and apparently there are some new changes. Turns out a bunch of content was lost when upgrading and also it says there are different learning modes (self-study, exam prep, conversation). It turns out when you go through the steps for the exam prep it was only in a couple of languages and also it is an extra subscription on top of the lifetime purchase anyway. I thought that would be awesome down the road to prep for official Greek exams but no, that is not even an option, and if you wanted to do so for Spanish for example it is not included in your Memrise lifetime pro membership.

Despite being displayed as available modules and with no markings on the headings for them saying it is extra, until you have actually stepped through several steps of onboarding for them, that is extremely misleading and they should be clearly labeled as extra and not included or something like separate membership beyond Memrise Pro required.

Shocking.

Same with the conversation mode, which is only for practicing English so it is not relevant to me anyway, but that is also an additional subscription. For your information in case the fact that it had multiple modes and user contributed video content had sounded interesting to you and compelled you to pay the lifetime membership.

### 4/5 — Hi

*2026-08-13, version 2026.8.10*

Awesome app

### 2/5 — Wish it was free

*2026-08-10, version 2026.7.6*

I wish it was free

### 4/5 — Wish there was a toggle option

*2026-08-07, version 2026.7.6*

I used the app to learn korean which I really liked. However, the AI option really irk me. I understand it’s the new buzz word but I would’ve preferred having the option to use either AI for feedback or actual native speaker. For this, I’ll be looking for another app. Maybe in the future if this feature is implemented, I’ll be happy with the app again.

### 4/5 — Pleasantly surprised

*2026-08-01, version 2026.7.6*

I bought Memrise on a lifetime subscription for around 70€ which is good value. I’m using it principally to learn Welsh, and while it doesn’t have all the features that more common languages it’s pretty good on the whole. I like the repetitive nature of the app which is important as Welsh questions, and sentences require lots of work when you’re beginning to learn the language. The AI component however is lacking. I tried it with Spanish where I’m near bilingual and it was poor. My chief gripe is after all these years a learner should be able to have a spoken conversation with an AI bot rather than a written one. Another criticism is the degree to which you consolidate your language learning at the end of a chapter or a level. I hope that exists as it hasn’t appeared yet and I’m already starting to forget what I learnt two weeks ago.

### 3/5 — I don’t know what’s going on

*2026-07-31, version 2026.7.6*

Ok so I read the reviews and everything and looks like everyone loves it, because I was searching for a good app that helps with language teaching and all, something else besides Duolingo. So I installed this app and it asked for my account. First I clicked “get started” and I picked my language, so when it said “search for a language you wana learn” I searched German and the huge bar under the search Bar was just loading for a LONG TIME. So then I reinstalled the app and went to “i have an account” and put in my iPad password, and then it went to a different screen with a present box, and it said “pick a language to get started” so when I clicked on pick a language it loaded for a sec and said “oops try again” and I did that over and over atleast 20 times and it kept saying the same thing. PLEASE FIX IT😭, I don’t know if it’s a bug or something, BUT STILL PLEASE FIX IT😭😔

### 5/5 — Best language app I’ve used

*2026-07-29, version 2026.7.6*

It has been very helpful, more than Duolingo ever was. I just love how it’s real people talking, and not robots. And it offers an amazing free experience. Also I love how it dosent use energy like Duolingo. Memrise is better in the long run in every way possible

### 5/5 — Better than Duolingo

*2026-07-25, version 2026.7.6*

Duolingo make you have lives and it makes you learn random words Memrise though makes you learn whatever you want

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Paywall

*2026-08-25, version 2026.8.10*

The reason I loved this app so much was that it allowed for amazing free learning without a paywall, and paying for a subscription just allowed for cool perks. Now the free stuff can’t be used continuously without a subscription. Like why can’t I do a speed review multiple times in a day if I haven’t reviewed all words? I was able to a week ago! I’m so disappointed. I wanted to subscribe to the lifetime subscription because of how much I loved the free version, but now they’re locking basic stuff behind a paywall. I recommended this app to all my friends because of how much you can get for free, but now the quality is going downhill. Boo.

### 1/5 — I hate this app

*2026-08-22, version 2026.8.10*

i’m trying to Learn Spanish and it didn’t even let me even learn it even though I put my phone number my first name and my last name and my email it didn’t let me get in the app, even though I did what it told me too, so I recommend to not get this app it’s stupid

### 1/5 — A stunningly awful, AI-slop language app in a sea of awful, AI-slop language apps

*2026-08-20, version 2026.8.10*

I tried Memrise years ago, before the app, and liked it, so a positive experience with the free version of the app was enough for me to pay what I thought was a reasonable price for all-access.
Within 6 months, all actual learning content had been swapped out for broken versions: vocabulary lessons with some words having a blank instead of a translation, or some vocab “words” that were not words, but were compound sentences using tenses and phrases I was never taught. There were—and still are—multiple choice questions that have the same answer for 3 of 4 options, which means even if you know the answer, you’ll probably be wrong. The video section that once had original content from native speakers is now flooded with stolen videos from creators on YouTube who offer their videos for free—but Memrise is using in its paid service, without credit and probably without compensation for the creator, who originally offered it FOR FREE. And as if all that wasn’t bad enough—and it most assuredly is—Memrise added the dreaded AI “helper”bots, just like every other corner-cutting language app out there. Naturally, the bots were messy and never worked right, but I was told to just wait it out because they were still in beta. The myriad of other, bot-unrelated issues I pointed out were, of course, ignored. And then something happened that would be so much funnier if I hadn’t paid Memrise for an all-access lifetime sub. It had been a few months, so I decided to see if the bots were “out of beta,” and had improved from when I last used them. That time, I had had been given quizzes with no questions because the AI “forgot” to include them??? Surely, it was a little better now, right? No. For the first question, it asked me to translate a simple phrase using the pronoun “je” (“I”), which is literally the first word you learn in French. I responded, using “je” as I had been instructed, and the bot marked it wrong. When I asked why, it told me the correct pronoun for “I” is “tu” (which actually means “you”). Flummoxed, I responded that je means I, and tu means you. Again, I cannot stress this enough, these are words you will learn immediately in any French course. There’s no excuse for getting that wrong in a language course, much less a paid one. However, things quickly descended into a bizzaro world as the bot told me that yes, je is I, but I had used tu. No, I explained, I had definitely used je; it was in the log from moments ago. At this point, the bot told me that je was not the correct answer, and repeated the question to point out my mistake once again. But it wasn’t the same question. It literally changed the entire question so it could insist I was wrong the whole time. What is this app doing, besides not teaching me French? What parallel universe did Memrise get their bots from and why am I being used as their test subject? I wrote to Memrise several times about the unprecedented uselessness of their bots and their app, asking to be refunded since I was somehow taught a negative amount of French by a bot that told me “je” means “you,” and “tu” means “I.” Obviously they never responded. Please save yourself and your money. Don’t give this app even a single cent. It’s that bad.

### 1/5 — Rubbish

*2026-08-07, version 2026.7.6*

Won’t even let me get into the app

### 1/5 — My review

*2026-07-30, version 2026.7.6*

This app does not help me with anything I kept asking it to help me speak Spanish and it did nothing absolutely terrible

### 1/5 — Charging me for years after cancellation!!

*2026-07-29, version 2026.7.6*

I’ve emailed them in 2024 to refund me after charging me past the point of cancellation..

And again, had to email them this year—and they sent only 1x $30 annual refund so far.

Terrible service.

I’m calling my Bank this week if they don’t refund me for the last 4-6 years. Received no emailed receipts. Just charging my PayPal, even though I have NO ACTIVE SUBSCRIPTION with them! No app installed. And no usage on the app since cancelling / for years.

I refuse this treatment by this company, and refuse to be ignored.

### 1/5 — Something changed?

*2026-07-26, version 2026.7.6*

I used to enjoy the free version (Spanish)but now the Learn with Locals videos have disappeared, and the app no longer shows my progress. All I can access with the free version is word list lessons. There used to be a presentation of new words or phrases by local speakers, and then a mix of ways to practice including a few short dialogs. That’s gone now. Just the boring word lists. I wouldn’t try the paid version without a free trial to see if that too has stopped using native speakers. Because that’s what I loved about this app before!

### 1/5 — Very confused & upset

*2026-07-22, version 2026.7.6*

Downloaded as i see all the good reviews and uhm.. U cant change the language? Apparently it's only english I can learn.. Very disappointed

### 1/5 — App review shows no words

*2026-07-12, version 2026.7.6*

Been over a month and no reviews. Your zendesk app won’t take my email address for bug reports. Stuck!

### 1/5 — Horrible Customer Service

*2026-07-10, version 2026.7.6*

A few years ago I paid for the lifetime upgrade and since then I had to buy a new phone. Well guess what? The lifetime membership did not transfer. I emailed customer service about and they asked me if I still had the receipt EVEN THOUGH THEY COULD SEE IT ON THEIR END THAT I HAD PURCHASED IT. And of course I don’t have a receipt for something that I paid for over FIVE years ago. They take forever to reply to emails and they still haven’t gotten back to me.

### 5/5 — Memrise Easy Language Learning

*2026-08-07, version 2026.7.6*

Very good

### 5/5 — Love!

*2026-08-03, version 2026.7.6*

I’m always bored to death and I really wanna travel, so I decided to travel myself and learn 7 different languages (one for each day of the week). This app really helps me with reviewing and learning new vocabulary words, now I’m proud to say that I’m almost fluent in writing/reading/speaking Japanese after learning it for a year now lol

### 5/5 — I love memrise so much I bought it!

*2026-08-01, version 2026.7.6*

I was so impressed by how the app is tailored to your needs and works amazing. It worked so good even on the free plan (which made me love it even more) that I literally bought it just to support them. Truly a gem of an app!

### 5/5 — Amazing and so helpful

*2026-07-31, version 2026.7.6*

I started learning Spanish so i could be able to speak a different language and Memrise has been so helpful. With visuals of locals speaking and a bunch of different prompts like ordering coffee, Memrise is packed. It has different ways for diferentes types of learners to grasp what they are trying to learn. It’s great and I have one last thing to say…
¡Muy gracias!

### 5/5 — Amazing!

*2026-07-30, version 2026.7.6*

I’ve been looking for a very good and traditional language learning app to help me with my Spanish classes in my upcoming school year. I have to say, this app is doing a great job with helping me learn! It lets you choose what you want to learn and what topics of that language! It also includes interactive videos to help you understand better! You also have a ai chat buddy to help as well! If you’re looking for a language learning app, I highly recommend this one!
