The one major complaint is that when I click on a notification I am taken to the home page, not the article referenced in the notification. ### 2/5 — Stop charging for online use! *2014-10-13, version 5.6.0* This app is ok. Nothing to brag about. No video options. But charging for a mediocre paper? Especially online? I'll move to another app instead of this one. ### 3/5 — Was ok until... *2014-09-04, version 5.4.0* I'm from the area of Merced and I've been living on the east coast for a while. Reading Merced Sun-Star articles is how I keep up on news from back home. I liked the updates to the mobile app except for one, now I have to pay to read the articles. I understand the Sun-Star has to make money, but I cannot justify paying for a subscription to a newspaper 3,000 miles away. I used to be able to read the articles for free on the website as well as the app but I can see that has changed. So the app is probably worth it if you have a job in this poor economy and can afford to pay for a subscription on top of your other bills. Unfortunately as a new homeowner with a mortgage payment and home repair bills I cannot, so I'm deleting the app. From now on I'll have to rely on news from Merced that makes national headlines so I can read it on my cnn app(free) or ask friends and family in the area what's been going on. ### 1/5 — Bad update for accessibility *2014-06-28, version 5.1.0* When the voice over is enabled, sometimes the apples up the wrong article when I tap on the headline. This is very annoying for someone who is blind and is trying to read the articles. The Sacramento Bee app has the same problem since there around by the same company I'm going to assume it is something within the base code ### 3/5 — Pretty good *2014-06-22, version 5.1.0* Easy to use & informative.. The commenting and posting to social networks has a bug tho.. It kicks you out of the application when attempting to post.. Please fix AS OF JUNE 2014 it's asking me to sign in and pay for a subscription to read and use... No thx! I pay for a digital subscription and nearly every article is inaccessible because it tells me I can’t read it without the subscription I already have. This happens across multiple devices, after uninstalling and reinstalling, using the in app clear cache, logging out and in. Nothing fixes it and I can’t read the articles I pay for. Customer support is completely unhelpful and only recommends I do things in my web browser and won’t recognize it’s an app specific issue. ### 1/5 — Poorly functioning App *2022-07-29, version 9.1.6* Not only am I unable to access articles on the app, the facility of tech support is poor and not functioning. In a town of 80,000 people the Sun-Star staff never even gets close to telling the real stories that happen in this city! Their sports section is non existent and they don't update any stories previously posted! I'm not sure why the sun star is still even a paper! Horrible horrible horrible. It's sad that we as a community put up with such garbage. Now they want to focus on national news? I can get that from way better sources. I like having a reliable place to find out local news plus get links to world, national and entertainment news. I don't live locally so it is great to have a place to find out what's happening in Merced and then get convenient links to the broader picture. I think you guys are doing a great job providing a needed service.
