### 4/5 — Excellent app but a little high on cost

*2022-06-15*

This is a very good tool. I am using for personal use but monthly subscription for commercial uses or higher storage limit is more than I can afford.

**Developer response:** Hi R-O'neil, we now have a plan for €11.90/month for individuals.

### 4/5 — Nice

*2022-01-29*

I find it very useful in the field. The UX is super simple; I like it a lot. However, some minor changes are highly needed.
- please add a possibility to change the language. The default is Russian (I'm living in Russia), but I prefer the English interface. The Russian translation is awful.
- default map is slow; it seems like there is no cache. The app downloads tiles every time I update the view, even if I used the same extent before
- please add a possibility to save photos taken in the app in iPhone Gallery

### 5/5 — Five star

*2021-08-13, version 0.9.9*

Brilliant little app for field surveys. Obviously there’s always more things that could be added but it’s under active development so can’t wait to see what new features arrive. Thank you Lutra Consulting!

### 5/5 — Great to pair with QGIS for Field Data Collection

*2021-04-20*

The combination of Input (data input app), Mergin (cloud storage) and QGIS (GIS data) is excellent for collecting our data in the field and working with the data in the office.

With Input, I’m able to easily view, create, or update asset information while in the field, with or without cellular connectivity.

This is a powerful combination that lets me get work done!

### 5/5 — Love that it’s an iOS app for the QGIS env but lacking in photo support

*2021-03-27*

Like the title says. Technically the app supports photo collection, but whenever using cellular data it crashes the app every time and you lose 3-5 minutes of your life getting it running again.

**Developer response:** Could you file an issue here describing the steps to crash the app taking photos:

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2021-03-15*

At the beginning, I had some problems for downloading the data to my Qgis Project. I wrote to support team and they helped me almost immediately, so I could solve it. I really recommend this app, it has made what one expects.

### 5/5 — Brilliant for soil sampling

*2021-02-18, version 0.8.0*

This app has made my job so much easier and quicker! We use input for logging soil sample locations and observations in field. It works and is brilliant. So simple to use and has revolutionised field work!

### 5/5 — Does exactly what you expect

*2021-02-16, version 0.8.0*

I have been using Input for surveying trees for the last few months now and it really is a lifesaver. The UI is simple and easy to understand and the cloud service offered, Mergin, works really very well.
Once you’ve set up a project inside QGIS and any forms you wish to be filled out you can just plot items to you hearts content. Very impressed. The only improvement I could see atm would be to include a zoom slider on screen so that you can zoom in and put using a stylus. Other than that A++ 👌🏻

### 4/5 — Bonne application compatible avec QGIS

*2021-01-05*

### 4/5 — Great app - but no zoom controls

*2020-11-16, version 0.7.1*

We have started to use this app for our surveying work on the UK uplands. The app is great - simple to use. The synchronisation with Mergin and QGIS projects has saved us a lot of time!

One feature it is missing though is a dedicated zoom in and out control. It is possible to pinch to zoom, but we often need to wear gloves when surveying in the winter and having buttons for zoom controls would help massively. Also, the option to turn layer visibility on and off would be a useful addition.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Tried 2nd worst app

*2025-11-17*

Open maps is the only app worse than this one. Cannot use this without downloading maps to your phone to explore. I don’t trust that. I have worked with maps for many many years. Another person mentioned QField if they had a better menu I would not look for any other app. At this point HuntStand beats many so called map apps. This one seems useless unless you make another account just to try an apps potential. Other people say it needs work and I could not get far enough past bad ideas to try any functions. You have a menu so that’s the only reason this is not the worst.

### 1/5 — Terrible Application for field work

*2025-03-06, version 2025.1.0*

Slow, Janky, Pretty much useless in the field.

### 1/5 — Can’t get into my account, can’t get support

*2023-08-18, version 2.2.0*

Signed up. Tried to log in on Qgis and apparently my details were wrong. Could sign into app no issues however. Couldn’t sign into on website either. Tried to delete account via app and was told there was an error. Tried to get support and the only option I could see was to sign up for support at $1250/year. Would love some assistance. App looks like it would be quite good if I could get it to work.
Kind regards

### 1/5 — Läuft leider nicht

*2022-09-28*

App stürzt immer wenige Sekunden nach dem Öffnen ab. Schade.

### 1/5 — Can’t use app

*2022-06-16, version 1.5.2*

Can’t use the app as it’s not in English

### 2/5 — This app needs a lot of work still

*2023-10-30*

I used to use QField for work, & it was great. Not nearly as user friendly as Mergin Maps, but it worked great. This app has countless problems that really need addressing. One immediate problem I can think of is that the app will crash if you click the GPS button on the bottom middle of the screen. Every single time. There are lots of frustrations I have while using this app & they cost me a lot of unnecessary time. Please look into all the things that make this app crash. If you would like a list of all the crashes, I could easily compile this for you guys. A few more issues: the app will refresh if you have it closed for more than a couple minutes, forcing me to have to turn off all the map layers that im not going to use. Another annoying one is that misc notes aren’t translucent, & they take up a massive portion of the screen when trying to view the map. Please make them less obstructive.

It says the app doesn’t collect data but you guys should honestly start collecting user data & user crash logs.

**Developer response:** Hi dorselfn, we are sorry for the problems you encountered.

We would be definitely interested in compiled crash list and other feedback you have. The app generally does not crash on iPhones. We test it on various iPhone types before the release, so I am surprised with the behaviour your are experiencing.

Could you please write me on peter.petrik@lutraconsulting.co.uk or ping me on merginmaps.com/community/join?

### 3/5 — Uhh okay

*2022-03-09*

App honestly works fine but for some reason and I have absolutely no idea why the app’s language was defaulting to Russian or languages other than English for me. Not exactly an issue for me but just took an extra minute to get into the app for a project. If anyone knows the fix for it, that would be appreciated.

**Developer response:** Hi UUh okay, app default to you primary phone language. We are happy to assist via our support@merginmaps.com or merginmaps.com/community/join

### 3/5 — Can’t down load App for iPhone

*2022-01-14, version 1.2.0*

Not a review but a request for help!!!! This app looks exactly what I need for work for plotting a variety of positions, however through the I store app or on line the app only sais “open”, I cannot find anyway to down load it. Am I missing something?? Thanks

### 3/5 — 1.2 slowing the app

*2021-12-20*

Even on iPad 11pro with M1 chip the 1.2 update is slowing the good working of the app. GPS or Merging new features seems to cause the problem

### 3/5 — Excellent if you’re a business

*2021-11-23*

I have QGIS at home and this is also a great way of taking a project with you on the road. But the data cap for free version can be constraining, especially if there are several layers in the project. Unfortunately, the current entry level monthly payment is unacceptably high for most of us. Create a $10/month plan with some restrictions (like how many projects you can have), then you would catch more of us GIS amateurs out there. Or maybe I’m not the target market, and that’s okay too.

**Developer response:** Hi adventure_tense, we now have plan for €11.90/month for individuals.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent for data collection & helpful support team

*2024-09-27*

I have been using Mergin Maps for an academic research project and it has been a blessing. It’s made it so easy to collect field data from my phone and sync with my QGIS file at home. Customer support has also been very prompt and helpful when I had issues with my payment plan. Recommend!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2024-05-03, version 2024.1.0*

Easy to setup projects and use out in the field. Love it

### 5/5 — Very satisfied!

*2024-02-01*

Our volunteer organization has used Mergin Maps for two years. Our team of approximately 40 citizen scientists use the app to monitor about 200 nest boxes for a bird species whose numbers are in decline. We record a variety of variables regarding fledging success throughout the breeding season. This app has revolutionized our ability to monitor the birds in near-real time. Simply put, we could not keep up with the field data workload without this app! The wide variety of tools and options at our fingertips is more than we could’ve ever hoped for, and it’s integration with QGIS is seamless. I’ve used a number of field recording devices over the years, and Mergin Maps is equal to or better than any of
them, and when the free price of QGIS is factored in, this app is a tremendous bargain.

**Developer response:** Hi Studkier - thank you for your kind words and we are very happy to help your great activity with nest boxes.

### 5/5 — Great application to share map content

*2023-04-23*

This is the best application I have found to collaboratively work on projects that require map-based content. Its synchronization with the qgis pluging is great, and easy to share with people that does not manage with devices. Keep pushing!

### 5/5 — Perfect for research and fieldwork

*2023-04-12*

I have been using Mergin for the past three years, first for my Masters research and now for my PhD. This app allows me to visualize and navigate to field sites on my phone (offline!), collect data at each point, and have my projects sync seamlessly with the cloud for later download and use in QGIS.

I have multiple projects in Mergin and have used about 1/10 of my free storage limit, so the free storage is plenty to get me through all of grad school and beyond. Would recommend without hesitation to anyone doing field research.

### 5/5 — Intuitiva e facile da usare

*2022-09-05*

Oltre ogni aspettativa, bravi!

### 5/5 — Love this platform and app.

*2022-07-01, version 1.5.2*

I love the ease in which it syncs with QGIS. Everything for all of my layers can be set up for input in the field and it syncs perfectly. UPDATED: when everything is syncing, the external GPS receiver shows as a device that it is supplying the location information 👍 Many ideas to expand data collection, but otherwise top notch and well thought out.

### 5/5 — Excellent for field use

*2022-06-08, version 1.5.1*

Great app. Really simple to use. Would love the ability to annotate photos, if possible.

### 5/5 — QGIS field data with iOS device

*2022-04-29, version 1.4.0*

The long awaited solution for collecting field data (tabular and geometry) on iSO that syncs seamlessly with your local QGIS projects. You can customize your attribute field forms using QGIS widgets in a variety of functions. Collect points, lines and polygons in the field and populate your forms as you work. With the Mergin plugin installed and configured in QGIS, one click will synchronize your local project with newly collected field data. All of your created map themes, symbology and labels will go into the field with you. Take your QGIS projects out of your office and into the field!
