## Newest reviews (9 of 29)

### 1/5 — Useless

*2023-09-06, version 1.8.0*

Cannot paste diagrams, basic function

### 2/5 — Usually fails

*2023-06-30, version 1.6.0*

In general, not designed to be very usable. Will produce a diagram under the right circumstances, but more typically fails with “Importing module script failed.”

### 2/5 — Doesn't Support mmd Files

*2023-05-31, version 1.6.0*

Despite the first screenshot, the app doesn't actually support opening .mmd files, which really limits its utility.

### 1/5 — Don‘t waste your time and money

*2023-03-03, version 1.5.2*

PSA: Don‘t waste your time and money. The editor does not have clipboard functionality, so unless you are into typing mermaid files from scratch this app is useless.

### 2/5 — Needs work

*2023-02-26, version 1.5.2*

Think I'll just stick with the web version for now.

- files / Document view shows recents and recently deleted. Mermaid recents shows a bunch of iCloud files totally unrelated to Mermaid. One would expect that the director my would start fresh and have its own folder not Ben f shared across all your event files. Making it hard to locate or try and open a file you may want to sync.

- UX is amateurish, the keyboard icon to edit is annoying, for an editor that is 99% keyboard driving this isn't logical. You should be focussed in the editor most of the time. The button to toggle is not a good experience at all.

- rendering looks terrible, I currently see triangles and no connecting lines in a flowchart.

- Navigating between documents view and editor view is lost in the interface.

Deleting the app now, wasted a few $$ here

### 2/5 — Missing too many features

*2022-10-19*

Missing too many features compared to a basic mermaid setup. Impossible to add config files.

### 2/5 — You can get better editors online

*2022-08-17, version 1.5.2*

For some reason while editing something it will freeze or just not save properly. I’ve had to restart the app plenty of times to start to get the UI rendering again.

### 2/5 — No documentation or supporting website

*2022-01-15, version 1.5.1*

I wanted something to do quick and simple flowcharts and saw that this app would also do sequence diagrams, so I bought it.

Unfortunately I can’t find any help, documentation, or even a support website to help me navigate this app.

For that I’ll rate it 2 stars for now and, depending on how I make out with the app, will return to adjust my rating accordingly

### 2/5 — I'm disappointed

*2021-11-25*

I paid for what I could use for free. and in the end did not receive any benefits. if I pay for a port of a free application, I want to see: 1. the minimum number of bugs on the main functionality. 2. beautiful and user-friendly design of the editor itself. 3. adjust the size of the editor and viewer window. 4. toolbar with short buttons of commonly used syntax, for example Multi directional arrow. 5. I want to conveniently view the documentation while using the application. 6. Support for apple pencil with a convenient window for writing text for example as in the Google Translate application

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2026-07-10, version 1.8.2*

Wouldn't even display a simple class diagram. Broken...

### 1/5 — It’s a pity

*2025-09-07*

Doesn’t work at all

### 1/5 — Doesn’t actually work

*2025-08-24, version 1.8.2*

No support for flow diagrams and I suspect an old mermaid library. Please fix

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2025-05-29, version 1.8.1*

Tried two diagrams that work elsewhere
didn't work.
likely old mermaid lib. No refund. V lame

### 1/5 — Doesn’t open Mermaid files.

*2025-02-22, version 1.8.1*

The irony of this app being called Mermaid Editor but not actually being able to gracefully open files with the .mermaid extension is laughable.

### 1/5 — ペーストできない

*2025-01-29*

ペーストできないアプリなんて使えない

### 1/5 — That's a bad program. They're scammers too

*2024-12-19, version 1.8.1*

This program is very poor. The operators are scammers and dishonest.

### 1/5 — Can’t paste text

*2024-09-01, version 1.8.1*

I can’t imagine a good reason why this ability would not have been added.

### 1/5 — Useless without a select/copy/paste feature.

*2024-04-12, version 1.8.0*

No way to get any useful interactions in or out of this without a clipboard.

### 1/5 — Good app, but cannot open saved files

*2023-12-14*

The app itself is beautiful to work with.

However, you are not able to open a file that you have saved with the app.

This makes the app unusable.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Works great but you need a trick

*2025-08-07, version 1.8.1*

Design the diagram in AI like DeepSeek. Copy the code. Open mermaid documents. Press and hold and press paste. Test.txt is created. Press and hold rename to name.mmd. Select use mmd and not text. Open and it works. Use this in your prompt to AI chat: **Mermaid Rules for My Editor**
1. **Types**: Only `flowchart TD/LR`, `erDiagram`, `mindmap`
2. **Syntax**:
   - No `#`, `---`, `\n`, emojis, or Unicode
   - Labels: `"quoted"` only
3. **Style**:
   - Max 2 `classDef` (e.g., `fill:#f9f9f9,stroke:#333`)
4. **File Handling**:
   - Paste raw → Save as `.txt` → Rename to `.mmd`

### 5/5 — Solid Mermaid Editor

*2024-08-15, version 1.8.1*

I’m building a second brain out of plain text files, and this app expands what I am able to do. I’m excited to plan my projects with GANTT charts, make a timeline of my mom’s career, and create a family tree.

### 5/5 — Opens .mmd files, and can export PNG or SVG easily

*2024-04-27, version 1.8.0*

I picked this tool up after getting frustrated with the bad export functionality of the Mermaid live editor. I often need to export my mermaid charts to PNG or SVG.

This tool handles that case very well, and the edior panel is clean and has nice code highlighting. I do with the editor pane had a light/dark mode though, as the white background is brutal on the eyes at night.

### 5/5 — Basic and useful

*2024-02-10, version 1.8.0*

This is a basic app that utilizes the Mermaid JS descriptor language. (You can Google "mermaid-js" online for a complete syntax guide; that's what I did.)

By "basic", I mean you can input line-by-line Mermaid JS syntax and it will render the diagram. You can also paste into the syntax editor area. (I tested this, because a one-star reviewer claimed otherwise. I copied-and-pasted a complete diagram into a new document, and it rendered fine. I am on an "M1" iPad Pro. Perhaps that matters?)

Why am I giving it five stars while another gave it one? Because it is literally exactly what I needed. It is a very simple mermaid-js editor and renderer. There are no bells. There are no whistles. I did not need to copypasta from elsewhere, in fact. I only needed to type in my diagram to see it graphically. This app can generate an SVG from the diagram, but I would have been happy if I could have only screen-captured it. So, I'm happy with the app.

I have been working on a difficult problem at work. Visually tying together existing components diagrammatically made life easier because I could determine which existing components to use, and which pieces of code I still needed to write. This app was helpful for me.

### 3/5 — Integration beschraenkt

*2025-01-22*

### 3/5 — Decent, but could use some improvements

*2023-08-29, version 1.8.0*

Basically functions well.
Pros:
- Live editing.
- Double-clicking an .mmd file does open the app, despite the other review.
- pan and zoom of the diagram supported, though panning requires a click-and-hold, which is unatural for typical trackpad behavior on a Mac app (compare to the Maps app).
- Generates diagrams from standard templates.
- Link to the MermaidJS docs.
Cons:
- The cursor is almost invisible in the editor. I'm constantly losing track of it.
- Needs better support for light/dark themes (this may help the cursor issue).
- Large state diagram didn't render, and no errors were displayed.
- Code completion only works for Mermaid key words, not user-defined symbols (compare to the official Live Editor)

### 3/5 — outdated mermaid-js

*2022-08-18*

It would be nice to have it updated to the latest version of mermaid-js, so we could work on C4C Documents. Also, it lacks support to dark mode.

### 3/5 — mostly works, not fancy

*2022-07-29*

An option to switch off system keyboard shortcuts in the code editor would be great.

In class diagrams, <<…>> gets rendered as «…»Â.

(MermaidEditor 1.5.2, iPadOS 15.6)

### 2/5 — Trackpad Support Needs Improvement

*2025-02-17*

I can’t scroll with a two-finger swipe on the trackpad, which makes it pretty inconvenient to use.

### 2/5 — Black on dark gray

*2024-06-30, version 1.8.1*

Basically, uselesss, text is black on a dark gray background making it almost impossible to see.
