### 5/5 — Dictionaries are for readers

*2026-07-14, version 5.9.2*

I love to read real, physical books. When I come upon a word whose definition I do not know, I learn firsthand what that word means, and often how it is used in different contexts.

### 4/5 — Wher is blossom?

*2026-06-29, version 5.9.2*

Nice app, but I thought it would have games like blossom that are at m-w online

### 5/5 — Reliable

*2026-06-15, version 5.9.2*

Every time I look up something, I find the right answer or several appropriate answers to choose from.

### 5/5 — I wish you Ur have to come true.

*2026-06-14*

MW Dictionary is Awesome

### 5/5 — Hands down best dictionary app

*2026-06-11, version 5.9.2*

Not only is it the best dictionary app on my phone, it’s probably the best designed app I’ve ever used. It’s been on my phone for more than a decade so I don’t recall if I coughed up money for the ad-free version or not but if I did, it was a one-time affair and a good use of money. There’s no in-app purchases offered. It’s useful, and unexpectedly, entertaining. It doesn’t get in the way of my workflow with distracting notifications. That may be my personal settings but turning off or limiting notifications on other apps often doesn’t work or reduces the functionality of the app. I could go on about my satisfaction with the M-W app, but won’t. I’ll just say, if you are debating a dictionary app, others are excellent too but eventually get sunsetted. This one will withstand the test of time, is the best source for definitions anyway, and its thesaurus is excellent and easy to use too—no more writer’s block!

### 5/5 — Go to.

*2026-05-30, version 5.9.2*

It’s my go to reference.

### 5/5 — Best Ever Info

### 5/5 — Handy and informative

*2026-05-17, version 5.9.2*

I use this as my first go to app for most common words and phrases.

### 5/5 — Think

*2026-05-02, version 5.9.1*

Well done love the opportunity to use. My brain makes me think and I share it with friends and we do it together.

### 5/5 — Extremely Useful

*2026-04-15, version 5.9.1*

I use this dictionary every day. Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — An Honest Offline Dictionary

*2026-04-03, version 5.9*

I am returning to this review to give the app top marks. It is a very good reference and works fine with no internet connection. It's the best dictionary app I have found. Thank you Merriam-Webster.

A few minutes ago I down-rated this dictionary, because it lacked a word I sought. Then I went back to the app store, looking again for a more comprehensive offline dictionary. I chose one that actually had "Offline" in its title. What lie. It was actually a vehicle for subscription services, and would not even let me look up a word without accepting a free trial. Deleted it. Thanks again, M-W for an honest app.

### 5/5 — I love it

*2026-03-22*

Always updated, very clear and really helpful. I am happy with it.

### 5/5 — Great for Word Lovers!

*2026-03-20, version 5.9*

I use this app every day to increase my word power. I always find something interesting that I didn’t know before. And the games of fun too -terrific brain power fuel!

### 2/5 — Weak definitions

*2026-03-15, version 5.9*

I really messed up purchasing this. Merriam-Webster is pretty surface level compared to the OED. But beyond the shallow definitions, the app doesn’t seem formatted for the larger iPhones and the UI is surprisingly sparse (not in a good way). Also, there’s no search history or an ability to download anything. These are basic features I’ve seen in nearly every other dictionary app. I feel like a sucker having paid $10 for this. Sigh.

### 5/5 — Jay Dubya

*2026-03-08, version 5.9*

Excellent ! would love to better work entomology

### 5/5 — US dictionary

*2026-03-07, version 5.9*

Perhaps the oldest American dictionary. Still great in electronic form.

### 3/5 — Just Says Error Now. Please Fix

*2026-03-02, version 5.9*

I cannot search anything in this dictionary anymore. Every time I enter any word into the search field, I simply get the message “Error.” I’m putting in established and accepted words. Very odd.

I’m using this application on an iPhone 13 Pro Max if that helps to diagnose the issue at all for the developer.

I hope the developer will please look into this problem with the program and please release an update that hopefully fixes the issue. Thank you if so, thank you for the hard work and time no doubt put into this app and God bless.

### 5/5 — Essetial for English learners

*2026-03-02*

This is the great dictionary to understand nuances of English words and from the point of etymology. This dictionary brings me more understanding about English.

### 1/5 — Lousy download

*2025-10-25, version 5.8.3*

DON’T BUY. I purchased the app and registered it….it only gave me the free version. You can’t get the app to reflect the purchase. No human support only a lame letter they are real busy and useless articles to help. No where to get a refund or at least fix the problem!

### 5/5 — Who Knew?

*2026-07-19, version 5.9.2*

As a lover of language (and teacher) I think there is no better English dictionary app than Merriam-Webster Dictionary+.
I appreciate the clear listing of definitions, audio pronunciations (especially valuable for English language learners) and, my personal favorite, Word of the Day, which not only provides new insights into language that I may or may not be familiar with, but does so with clever, well-wrought commentary.
Bravo!
