### 3/5 — Lack of alerts

*2026-06-02, version 2.5.1*

My only problem with the app is the lack of notifications when there is a problem on one of the lines. There is the option to put in when you normally travel, and the times, which is then supposed to alert you if there is a problem but I’ve never had a notification of any of the issues. If I remember to check the app, it displays off there are problems with the lines. It would be great if you could at least get notification of any disruptions to the lines. Even better would be able to select which lines you want notifications for. The icing on the cake would be to set your normal travel times and stations to get a notification if one of those trains was affected

### 3/5 — Disappointed

*2026-01-13, version 2.5.0*

Trains most weeks are delayed or cancelled asked by the government to travel on public transport to travel to work but you can’t guarantee to get there

### 3/5 — Not reliable

*2025-11-16, version 2.4.1*

Never reliable, often crashes and need to reinstall.

### 4/5 — Internet

*2025-06-02, version 2.3.1*

Wish there was internet (that works ) on the train, otherwise merseyrail new trains are great.

### 4/5 — Good app

*2025-04-02, version 2.3.1*

Good app, much better than the old one but needs a section that lists all of the upcoming closures or engineering works on one page.

### 3/5 — Merseyrail app

*2025-01-27, version 2.3.1*

Functionality can be a bit clunky. Forces me to use nearest station on the first screen and cannot be changed so you have to check departures so the summary screen is redundant as nearest isn’t always best for me. Better than the last one but still not totally polished

### 1/5 — Miseryrail

*2025-01-09, version 2.3.1*

The app is awful does not reflect the shambolic service at all. I left this morning as the trains were showing as being delayed only to get to the station to find they had been cancelled and no trains were actually running. It’s a joke. Just a slight flurry of snow.

### 1/5 — A bit of snow

*2025-01-09, version 2.3.1*

How can the National network be fine but the local network is closed. Serious questions for “our” trains.

### 4/5 — Kejf

*2025-01-07, version 2.3.1*

Mostly good but sometimes a bit down the toilet

### 2/5 — Cancellations

*2025-01-03, version 2.3.1*

For the most part,I find the app quite useful. However at times of train cancellations you're still showing trains as still running. Also the lack of information, when trains are cancelled is abysmal.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Inconsistent

*2026-05-27, version 2.5.1*

Last few weeks the app has not worked so cannot be relied upon, before that the app was good

### 1/5 — Late or cancelled AGAIN

*2026-03-11, version 2.5.0*

Totally unreliable service. This is the 2nd time in a week

### 1/5 — Ticket purchase?

*2025-09-11, version 2.4.1*

Where can I buy a ticket on this app? Ridiculous.

### 1/5 — No ticket sales - a really poor App

*2025-07-18, version 2.4.1*

This App is really very poor indeed - it should enable you to buy tickets on line

### 1/5 — Awful app

*2025-05-18, version 2.3.1*

Absolutely terrible app, must have cost the best part of £30 to develop

### 1/5 — Missing fundamental feature!

*2025-05-12, version 2.3.1*

Given that private bus and train operator apps allow the buying of tickets on them I find it incredible that this publicly owned app doesn’t! So much for ‘Nationalisation is better’

### 1/5 — Mersey rail overpriced rubbish

*2025-03-10, version 2.3.1*

Used Merseyrail for 15 years for commute. Frequently delayed! The worst staff ! Ticket inspectors are obnoxious bullies ! New trains break as much as the points fail! Hooton flooding is well known yet never predicted to happen when it rains. All in all I’d never recommend relying on them for anything. App is slow to update

### 1/5 — Poor

*2025-02-26, version 2.3.1*

I only have to go in to the office twice a week but I’ve never had a day where my trains have been on time. As I write this, the train from spital to Liverpool is running 9 minutes late. Pretty much an embarrassment to the city.

### 1/5 — Unreliable

*2025-02-11, version 2.3.1*

Trains are far too unreliable. They are either late or cancelled. And the app isn’t much better either.

### 1/5 — Hooton Station Flooding

*2025-01-14, version 2.3.1*

This station is a joke always closed due to flooding. Please please fix the problem

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great

*2026-06-10, version 2.5.1*

Really been helpful knowing if trains on time or delayed and can see where train is so all good for me.

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2026-03-20, version 2.5.0*

Allows me to check times, the services & to plan for arriving at station for trains. Also able to see if there are any disruptions. Invaluable if using train a lot .

### 5/5 — Excellent App!

*2025-12-31, version 2.5.0*

One of the most intuitive apps out there!

### 5/5 — Linnyloo

*2025-11-24, version 2.5.0*

We think the new trains are amazing. We travel from Rainford to Liverpool and it seems that the two train companies seem to be talking to each other. We’ve never used the trains because we couldn’t guarantee getting home. Now we are using 🚉more than ever. There is always a training waiting on both journeys from and to Rainford. Keep up the good work!
THANKYOU it was a long time coming, but we are happy it is working now.

### 5/5 — All round good

*2025-10-14, version 2.4.1*

Excellent service. New app is great. And metro card.

### 5/5 — Good app

*2025-10-04, version 2.4.1*

A much needed app, with constant train delays or cancellation it’s vital in the morning for getting to work

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2025-05-31, version 2.3.1*

Wish the Merseytravel app was this good!

### 5/5 — Review

*2025-01-08, version 2.3.1*

Well worth downloading, considering Merseyrail struggles when there is bad weather. Using the Trainline app is just as rubbish. Merseyrail app is accurate at least. Still struggle to see why there are so many delays on ormskirk line compared to central during Monday-Friday between 7:30 till 9:30.

### 5/5 — Good App

*2025-01-06, version 2.3.1*

The App is good. It is a shame the train service doesn’t match it. I am fed up of being told that there is a fault and that the service is being terminated or that due to timetable difficulties the train will not stop at all the stations.

### 5/5 — The best

*2024-12-28, version 2.3.1*

Unfortunately the trains are awry this evening due to electrical problems.. I was caught up in cancellations and delays… however, the Merseyrail Team were outstanding as always… friendly, helpful and efficient… every single one of them…
Well done Merseyrail team.. thank you for looking after us…
modern technology let us all down today!! Hope sorted soonest x
