## What is MeshVote?

Ask a question, and the whole room answers in seconds. MeshVote runs live votes at meetings, assemblies and conferences over a Bluetooth mesh between the phones in the room, with no Wi-Fi or cell signal needed. Free for groups of up to 10 members.

Create a group in seconds, share a QR code, start polling. Joining and voting need no account, no sign-up, and no personal information.

— THE MESH —

MeshVote forms an ad-hoc Bluetooth mesh between nearby devices. Votes and poll data spread by gossip — each phone relays to its neighbors, who relay to theirs. The result: real-time voting that works in airplane mode, in basements, at remote retreats, and in venues with no reliable connectivity.

Designed for assemblies of thousands, with Network Sync for large halls.

— NETWORK SYNC —

Every group runs an encrypted cloud relay alongside the Bluetooth mesh by default. Members joining mid-session catch up instantly, and votes propagate even between devices out of Bluetooth range. Poll questions, ballots and chat are encrypted with your group's invite key, which we never store — their contents are unreadable to us.

Need maximum isolation? Admins can create a group with Network Sync off: it runs pure Bluetooth, and its polls, votes and chat never leave the room or reach a server. The choice is made at group creation. Bluetooth Sync stays flexible — admins can switch it off or back on any time while Network Sync is on, so a group always keeps a transport.

— RUNNING THE ROOM —

Project the whole agenda: presentation mode shows every open poll at once in a live grid, each tile with its own ballot, running chart and vote total. Tap a tile to focus one poll full-screen; close it from its tile, or end the round with Close All and leave the wall of results up for the room. On iPad, the poll list and the live results sit side by side.

— FEATURES —

• Bluetooth Sync — peer-to-peer Bluetooth mesh; no Wi-Fi or cell signal needed
• Network Sync (default-on, opt-out per group) — encrypted cloud relay for instant catch-up
• Real-time tallies and live turnout for administrators
• Ed25519 signatures — every ballot and every closed result is signed and tamper-evident
• QR invites — scan an admin's QR to join; any member can show a reusable code — Rally plan
• Write-in votes, write-in-only polls, and an abstain option
• Poll templates saved to your account, and hand-counted ballots merged into the result at close
• Notifications for new polls and chat — encrypted push (Network Sync) or on-device banners (Bluetooth-only groups)
• Group announcements; member roster and custom icons (Network Sync groups)
• Group chat over the same mesh — Team plan
• Export to JSON, CSV, Excel or plaintext; the JSON carries a signed attestation anyone can verify — Team plan
• Bulk poll import from Excel, CSV or JSON, and additional admins — Community plan
• Geofencing — restrict voting to a boundary you define — Rally plan

— PLANS —

Free for groups of up to 10 members, with unlimited polls. Larger groups and the plan-marked features need a subscription on your account, applied to the groups you create: Team (50 members), Community (250), Rally (1,000). For bigger assemblies, write to support@magnalia.foundation.

— PRIVACY BY DESIGN —

• Votes are a recorded show of hands — encrypted with your group's key, private from outsiders and from us, not a secret ballot.
• Group invite keys never reach our servers — the relay carries the encrypted contents but never the key that opens them.
• A group with Network Sync off keeps its polls, votes and chat on the devices in the room.

— FOR THE ROOM, BY THE ROOM —

Built by Magnalia Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, for assemblies that want fast, fair, verifiable decisions without depending on cloud infrastructure they don't control.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1.1 — 2026-11-04

When MeshVote cannot use the camera or your photos for a group or profile picture, it now tells you why and offers to open Settings. Before, nothing happened.

If you close the sign-in sheet while a sign-in is still in progress, the sign-in now finishes, and MeshVote no longer closes unexpectedly. A name that you save as the profile sheet closes now reaches your groups.

### 2.1.0 — 2026-10-30

MeshVote has a new icon. A shared invite now sends a QR code that shows correctly in dark mode, and the invite link comes alone on its own line, so it is easy to copy.

The poll presets, such as Yes / No, now appear in the app's language.

MeshVote now uses the whole iPhone Duo display. When you fold, unfold or turn the phone, the app keeps the open group, poll and dialogs. When the Duo is open, the app turns with the phone, and the two-pane view starts split at the fold.

In Presenter Mode with the light theme, the status bar icons are dark again.

Security: MeshVote now refuses certificates from a certificate authority that was compromised in October 2026.

### 2.0.1 — 2026-10-17

A device that an admin removed can now join the group again. Before, the device showed “Removed from group” again right after it rejoined, and the group did not appear, while the admin saw the device as a member. When an admin removes a device, it now moves to Left in the Devices list within a few seconds.

### 2.0.0 — 2026-10-15

A stronger foundation for every vote.

Update every device in your group. MeshVote 2.0 works only with other devices on 2.0. When a device nearby still has an older version, MeshVote tells you, so you can ask its owner to update.

Close every open poll before you update. A poll that stays open across the update counts only the votes cast with 2.0.

• A new invite format. A one-time invite, the QR code on screen or a shared link, no longer holds the group's keys: the admin's device sends them to the new device in encrypted form. Codes and links from older versions no longer work. Show a new code.
• Stronger signatures on every poll, vote, invite and group update.
• Membership is signed. Each device signs its own membership, and admissions and removals carry an admin's signature. In a group with Network Sync on, the server checks these signatures.
• When an admin closes a poll in a group with Network Sync on, voting stops at once and the poll shows "Finalizing…" for a moment. When the admin's device can reach the server, the result counts exactly the votes that the server holds. A vote that arrives after the close is not counted, and its voter sees a message that says so.
• Polls with thousands of votes close faster.
• Each device has one ballot per poll, and the live vote count counts each device once.
• Changes to a group's settings reach every device in order, also over Bluetooth in a group with no polls. When the server does not accept a change, the app tells you.
• A group's member limit no longer drops when two admins edit the settings at the same time.
• An altered or replayed copy of a group's state can no longer close open polls on devices that get polls only over Bluetooth.
• Votes that you cast on the older version and that were still waiting to be sent go out again after the update, for polls that are still open.
• Security and stability fixes.

Thanks for voting with us.

### 1.9.0 — 2026-10-13

Safer invites and steadier results.

• Each invite code now admits one device. When another device scans a code that was already used, it gets a message that the invite has expired or was already used.
• Share an invite as a link. In a group with Network Sync on, the Share button on the invite sends a link that works once, for two minutes. The link holds none of the group's keys. Devices that join through a link need this version.
• You can join a group with Network Sync on while Bluetooth is off. An invite to a group that works only over Bluetooth now says at once that Bluetooth is needed.
• When a device joins, the admin who let it in sees a short notice, also over the open invite.
• Polls open and close at once, even when the internet connection is slow or down. Nearby devices get the change over Bluetooth first. If the server does not accept a change, the app tells you and offers Retry.
• A poll with many votes closes much faster.
• When two admins close the same poll, every device keeps the same result.
• A device that was removed from a group can no longer add a vote to its results.
• Members who get polls only over Bluetooth now also get the result of a poll that closes while other polls stay open.
• In a group with more than five open polls, members no longer see an open poll as closed.
• A poll with many different write-ins shows the 50 most common and counts the rest as "Other write-ins", in the app and in exports.
• A muted group stays silent, and each chat message shows one notification.
• Presenter Mode keeps the screen on.
• On iPad, exporting a poll opens the share sheet.
• The invite scanner can zoom, for a code on a distant screen.
• An invite for a group with a detailed voting area shows its QR code.
• Permission requests come one at a time.
• Relay mode is no longer offered on iPhone and iPad.
• Fixed a rare problem at startup that could make a device lose its groups.
• Stability fixes.
