I ended up buying a handheld metal detector as well and with the combination of the two I was able to map out the rebar grid in a foundation. Drilled right in to find the rebar I was looking for. This app at times was more accurate than the handheld (the handheld had a little more penetration). It (the app) was able to sense rebar 5 inches back in concrete. I downloaded 3 or 4 other metal detector apps and without a doubt this one provided the most help and best performance! In your situation, we advise you to adjust the Metal Detector sensitivity slider to medium or maximum. Next, try turning on the Metal Detector away from the wall you are measuring and gradually bring your device closer to the wall. It won’t work as well as an actual metal detector, obviously, but if you turn up the sensitivity if you aren’t around a lot of metal and turn it down if you are, you’ll be fine. FYI once it finds something, you have to kind of move very slowly to find the precise location, as it has some kind of slight delay. Also, when you pull away from the location that the app says the metal is, turn the scanner off then back on before you use again. I found it goes kind of unpredictably haywire once it goes off for a couple of seconds, which can be mitigated by turning the scanner off and on. It’s a 5 star for an app, but compared to a real metal scanner it’s closer to a 3 star. It gets the job done and genuinely impressed me. Hope this helps anyone.
