## What is Meteor Wheel?

Meteor Wheel answers one question. Is it worth going outside tonight?

Most meteor apps hand you a calendar of dates. This one weighs tonight's sky at your location and gives you a verdict: Optimal, Good, Fair, Poor or Washed Out. It accounts for how much of the Moon is lit and whether it is up during your dark window, how high the radiant climbs, the length of real darkness at your latitude, and the light pollution where you stand.

TONIGHT
The shower that matters for your sky, illustrated with its radiant constellation. Usable window, window length, radiant peak altitude, where to look, Moon state, expected rate per hour. Everything else up tonight sits underneath, ranked by what you will actually see. Lead with the strongest verdict or the busiest shower, your choice.

THE WHEEL
The year as a brass dial. Each shower is an arc sized to its activity period, with today marked on the rim. Turn it to see what is coming and tap any arc for the full entry. The shape of the meteor year in a single glance.

CALENDAR
Activity by date, so you can plan a night around a peak instead of hearing about it afterwards.

WATCH LOG
Start a watch and tap to count. Record sky condition, notes and anything remarkable. Every watch gives you your observed rate against the rate that was forecast, which is the part that keeps you coming back. Lifetime totals for watches, meteors counted and showers seen against the catalogue. Export one watch or all of them as CSV to Files, Mail or AirDrop.

Built to be used one-handed in the dark. Nothing shifts under your thumb, the counter never nudges the layout, and every screen is drawn for dark-adapted eyes.

REFERENCE
Nineteen showers with sourced numbers. Zenithal hourly rate, population index, entry velocity, activity dates, radiant coordinates, parent body. Notable years and observing notes throughout. The app states where its figures came from and where the gaps still are, rather than dressing an estimate up as a fact.

WIDGETS
Two home screen sizes, each carrying tonight's radiant illustration behind the verdict. Lock Screen accessories for the days to the next peak. Computed on device, correct from the moment you place it.

NOTIFICATIONS
Optional reminders ahead of a peak. Choose how many days of warning you want and the lowest verdict worth being told about, so a washed out shower stays quiet.

YOUR OWN SITES
Save the places you actually observe from, each with its own sky-darkness rating. The garden, the dark field, the cottage you go to in August.

MADE TO BE LOOKED AT
Nineteen radiant plates in the manner of an antique star atlas. Engraved lunar phases, brass instrument furniture, and a night sky with real meteors drifting across it.

COMPLETELY OFFLINE
No network calls. No account. No tracking. No subscription. Every calculation, from solar longitude to Moon phase to radiant altitude, runs on your device. It works in a field with no signal, which is where you will be using it.

One payment, no in-app purchases. iPhone and iPad.

### 1/5 — Save your money...

*2012-01-02*

Less than useless. As it is, this is a ripoff. One star is too much.

### 1/5 — Outdated

*2010-11-08*

This ap has 2009 info. It gives very little in the way of specifics. No updates with current info. A VERY weak ap.

### 1/5 — Do NOT buy... No information

*2010-08-12*

Disappointing doesn't cover it. No detailed, updated info on where and what time you can watch showers.
Total rip off. The developper should be ashamed of him/herself!
Please do better with a detailed update. Feel obliged to report this, unfortunately...

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2010-08-11*

I want to know when I can watch the meteor shower in my location, not the basic facts that I already know. Waste of $0.99

### 1/5 — Nice idea, but its not executed very well.

*2009-11-27*

There is a major bug in that the text in the information window seems to be missing bits at the bottom, like it should scroll but it doesnt. Nasty font on the main screen as well. Also, it should ideally contain a few more of the major meteor showers.
I would love to see this app fleshed out and the bugs fixed as its a really neat idea for casual skywatchers, but i wouldnt recommend it in its current state.
