## What is Meteorite Check?

Is it a meteorite, or a meteor-wrong? Most unusual rocks people find are terrestrial. Meteorite Check helps you find out which you have, using a structured screening process built by people who handle real specimens every day.
BEYOND GENERAL ROCK IDENTIFICATION
This is not a generic rock identifier. It is a focused screening tool for one question: could this be a meteorite? It walks you through the same checks a specialist would run first, in plain language, and tells you honestly where you stand.
HOW IT WORKS
Answer a short set of physical checks: streak color, magnetism, density, surface features, interior metal, and more. The app rules out the common look-alikes first, then weighs what is left. Each check includes reference photos of real specimens and real meteor-wrongs, so you know exactly what you are looking at.
HONEST BY DESIGN
Your result is only as good as your answers, and the screening reflects exactly what you report, nothing more. No photo or kitchen-table test can classify a meteorite. Only a hands-on examination, and where needed laboratory analysis, can confirm one. A strong result here means your rock is worth a proper look. We tell you that plainly, and we tell you when a result is weak.
OPTIONAL PHOTO ANALYSIS
For a closer read, optional photo analysis examines the surface and any cut face of your specimen for the subtle signatures that point toward a meteorite and the disqualifiers that rule one out, then sharpens your result based on what it finds.
A STRONG CANDIDATE? HERE IS THE NEXT STEP
When a specimen screens as a strong candidate, the app can send a clean summary to a partner laboratory for examination. A referral is an introduction, not a guarantee. The laboratory decides which specimens it takes on.
BUILT BY PEOPLE WHO DO THIS
Meteorite Check is made by Treasure Coast Meteorite Co., a working meteorite company. Free screening, always. No subscription required.

### 5/5 — Slick app!

*2026-07-06*

While no app should be expected to replace a proper analysis by an expert, this does a really good job of analyzing what you’ve got on your hands.

Well designed UX, easy to use and just complex enough to provide reliable answers without intimidating amateur users.

Great job guys!

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.0.2 — 2026-08-16

Density is now a measured value. Enter your specimen's actual weight and volume and the app computes its density in g/cm3, then reads it against the expected range for stone or for solid metal.

Added an XRF cobalt question for specimens screened with a handheld analyzer.

Added Russian and Chinese, joining English, Arabic, French, and Spanish.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-07-08

New cobalt question in the XRF section, for finders who have element results. Cobalt tracks with nickel in meteoritic metal, so its absence on a metal sample counts as a meaningful negative.
Clearer reference photos on the quartz and fusion crust questions, including a fresh crust showing contraction cracks.
Translation updates across Arabic, French, and Spanish.
Display and layout refinements throughout.
Meteorite Check screens a specimen and points strong candidates toward a lab. It does not confirm or classify.

### 1.0 — 2026-07-06
