## What is Metered?

Plan your spoons before the crash.

Metered is a private energy planner for chronic illness, fatigue, pain, PEM, and limited capacity. Build today and tomorrow around a spoon budget, spot when a plan is too heavy, and learn what activities, energy taxes, and rest cost over time.

Everyday planning is free. Metered+ is lifetime, one-time, and no subscription. No account, analytics, tracking, or servers.

PLAN BEFORE YOU SPEND
Other apps tell you what happened yesterday. Metered helps you decide what you can do today and tomorrow.

Add activities, energy taxes, and rest or recovery entries. Describe your day in plain language, reuse yesterday, or save a good plan as a template for similar days.

CALMER TODAY GUIDANCE
Today keeps the important signals easy to scan:
- remaining spoons and over-budget state
- why your budget changed
- PEM recovery and carry-over context
- gentle risk guidance when a plan may be too much

Optional check-ins let you record how you feel now without changing your activities. Structured saved check-ins contribute automatically to on-device patterns, while free-text notes are never analysed.

MORNING SIGNAL
Metered+ reads overnight heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate, and sleep from Apple Health. HRV and resting heart rate are compared with recent personal baseline data; sleep is compared with your sleep target. The result is shown as Strong, Steady, Caution, or Low.

APPLE WATCH, WIDGETS AND QUICK NEEDS
Check your budget, complete activities, send Quick Needs, and run short orthostatic checks from Apple Watch.

Widgets keep remaining spoons visible without opening the app. Metered+ adds Live Activities for a persistent Lock Screen budget.

BUILT FOR COMPLEX ENERGY
Metered supports ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, Long COVID, POTS, EDS, MS, lupus, chronic pain, PMDD, endometriosis, IBD, caregiver burnout, and more.

Track physical, cognitive, social, sensory, masking, and recovery load so your plan reflects how energy really gets used.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account. No servers. No analytics. No tracking. Your data stays on your device and in your personal iCloud account. Metered reads Apple Health with your permission and does not write health data back. Analyses run on device using your plans, outcomes, and optional health data.

Rest is allowed to count.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-05-26*

I have been trying multiple different methods to manage energy, mood, and tasks for myself and my partner for years. I didn’t immediately try spoons because I don’t have physical chronic illness, I have bipolar and OCD. I recently decided to try it and so have been trying all the spoon apps to figure out which one works best for me. This is hands down my favorite one. I love that it works with my health apps (which I already use regularly) and helps me communicate my energy level to my partner when I’m struggling. It’s been a huge help getting over that hurdle when it’s hard to explain that I’m just too overwhelmed by my brain to talk some days. 10/10, will probably use this for as long as it’s supported.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for this beautiful review. I’m really glad Metered has helped you find a way to understand your energy and communicate with your partner when words are hard. If a dedicated companion view would ever be useful for you both, Supported is free and built for that. I’m so grateful you took the time to share this, and yes, Metered is very much being cared for. Thank you for making my week.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2026-05-11*

This app is a series of apps that’s helps you manage your chronic illnesses. I love this app because it helps me manage many of my autoimmune issues and the spoon theory. This shows me how many spoons I am working with at the beginning of the day and how I go over my spoons and always have crashes. It is designed to help you stay within your allotted spoons that you give yourself to try to avoid crashes. It also allows you to help with your crashes. This is one of the best apps that I have ever used. This whole series of apps is a game changer for people with chronic illnesses and many autoimmune issues.

**Developer response:** Thank you, this is kind. Saw you also reviewed Tended. Both were built for the same person in my family who needed all of them, so it means a lot when someone uses the suite the way it was meant to work. Glad Metered is helping you stay within your spoons. Geoff

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.17 — 2026-08-10

Your check-in history is now easier to correct without clearing everything.

- Delete an individual check-in from Earlier today with a clear confirmation first.
- If the deleted check-in changed today’s energy, Metered restores the most recent earlier explicit adjustment so the remaining budget stays consistent.
- Activities and Review Today are not changed when a check-in is removed.
- The separate option to delete all check-in data remains under More > Data.

Metered remains private by design, with no accounts, analytics, tracking, or third-party servers.

### 1.0.16 — 2026-08-08

Check in throughout the day, learn from your own patterns, and bring clearer context to appointments.

- New private check-ins let you record how you feel, symptoms, a note, and an optional energy adjustment without changing your planned activities.
- Structured saved check-ins contribute automatically to private on-device learning. Metered waits for enough consistent data before showing tentative patterns, and free-text notes are never analysed.
- “Check-in Patterns” shows the balance of recorded states and descriptive associations once there is enough consistent data.
- Metered+ reports now include check-in coverage and symptom context, with structured check-in CSV export. Notes appear only if you choose, longer details wrap cleanly, and supporting text has clearer print contrast.
- Check-in notes now have a roomier editor, report privacy wording states exactly what will be included, and Seasonal Patterns uses compact month labels on narrow screens.
- The final setup pages now scroll at larger accessibility text sizes and keep their actions within reach.
- Connected Apps sharing is now default-off and under your control, with more reliable Tended context and safer restore behaviour.
- Metered now supports iOS and iPadOS 18 plus watchOS 11.
- Improved reliability for check-in presentation, budget refreshes, backup recovery, and connected-app summaries.

Metered remains private by design, with no accounts, analytics, tracking, or third-party servers.

### 1.0.15 — 2026-07-18

Metered 1.0.15 improves reliability around automatic backups, iCloud, Metered+, Morning Signal, and voice input.

- Automatic background backup refreshes now start from Metered's main lifecycle queue.
- See whether iCloud sync is on or needs an app restart.
- The same unresolved iCloud issue now appears consistently in Data and Sync details.
- Unresolved iCloud failures remain visible until CloudKit reports a successful sync.
- Safer Morning Signal setup after purchase, including repair of duplicate synced history.
- Safer iCloud duplicate-plan cleanup: it waits for Morning Signal setup, runs one pass at a time, and preserves linked records.
- Voice input now restarts cleanly after clearing or starting again.
- More reliable backup and budget handling.

### 1.0.14 — 2026-07-14

Metered 1.0.14 improves reliability around iCloud, Metered+, Morning Signal, and voice input.

- See whether iCloud sync is on or needs an app restart.
- Safer Morning Signal setup after purchase, including repair of duplicate synced history.
- Voice input now restarts cleanly after clearing or starting again.
- More reliable backup and budget handling.

### 1.0.13 — 2026-07-08

Metered 1.0.13 makes delayed PEM recovery clearer.

- In Day Review, mark a day as causing PEM/crash and choose whether PEM started the next day, 2 days later, or 3 days later.
- Metered now reduces the budget on the day PEM starts, not always the day after the activity.
- Manual PEM recovery works for free users too; Metered+ still owns automatic personalised budget reasoning.
- Budget Breakdown now explains delayed PEM separately from yesterday-only carry-over, overspend, and tough-day context.
- Reviewed past days now use completed/actual activity costs consistently across budgets, insights, reports, exports, Watch, widgets, and event recovery maths.
- Review today now sits below your activities as the wrap-up action for the day.
- Learned crash-pair warnings now appear when the risky pair is the whole plan, not only after another activity is added.
- Backups preserve the selected PEM onset delay.
