Which is a great practice technique. The metronome itself works beautifully. Even better than my long lamented 32 bit "Metronome" app, now no longer working on modern OS. The UI needs help. The overall paradigm is a little odd, but I got used to that fairly quickly. The problems occur in the details ... for example it's really important to be able to move quickly around the top row of settings that control the BPM, lead in, speedups, etc -- but the horizontal scroll bar is barely visible, and is confused by a static UI element that further makes it hard to locate even when you know it's there. Similarly that all-important top bar doesn't scale out to show more controls when you expand the screen. Great programming job, very useful, needs a UI review and rework, which shouldn't be too terribly difficult. (and cowbell) *2019-05-27, version 8.0.4* Metronomics has been a mainstay metronome for my practice sessions over the past 6 or 7 years. As it is designed by a practicing musician who is excellent at his craft, it is intuitive and fun to use. The app features sliders similar to physical metronomes, allowing for quick adjustments to rhythmic subdivisions. Tap tempo is as easy as tapping the tempo number. Time signatures of any type are easy to manipulate and add accents/subdivisions. However, my favorite feature is the complete control of sounds. Want a bass drum on the downbeat and tambourine on the upbeat? Cowbell on downbeats with an occasional clave upbeat? These are just the beginning. Finally did so when I got an Apple Watch and, lo and behold, a Metronomics app for the watch shows up! The developer really cares about his apps, and he’s a musician! Add to that randomized cross rhythms, rhythm layering, odd meters, and a variety of samples, and you'll have enough tools to practice rhythm from any perspective. Auch die Optik ist nicht sehr gelungen. Beides ist bei "Clockwork" erheblich besser. Dort ist zudem auch die Bedienung einfacher und übersichtlicher. Noch schlechter bei dieser App ist, das es Aussetzer gibt. Wird wieder gelöscht. Das ist schade, denn die Idee die Subdivision (sogar von 1 bis zu 100 pro Beat, wobei bis 100 schon zuviel ist) ist nicht schlecht. Last time it was updated was 2 years ago. Nope. Plenty of metronomes about that don’t keep screwing money out of you. ### 3/5 — Good but needs better sounds *2012-06-10* The concept and implementation of this metronome are innovative and relatively user friendly. It is one of the few metronomes with polyrhythmic functions and self-timing training where the beat can be silenced in several ways, helping you develop your own sense of time internally without robotic reliance on the click. In those regards, everything works as advertised and the click is completely accurate. However, where this app falls short, and the reason I don't use it much is the poor quality of sounds. There are only two from the list that I find practical to use while I practice drums. The rest are either harsh, too squashed sounding, have poor fades on the end, or they don't cut enough to be heard clearly. This app is very well thought out and designed, and since its shortcomings can be overcome, I'm giving it 3 out of 5 stars. More attention to useful sounds is the only thing lacking, although that's a somewhat large drawback. ### 3/5 — Complicated *2012-05-29, version 4.0.1* Maybe it's me....maybe it's because I don't know how to read music, but I think this app is complicated to use. I'm sure it does all kinds of good things, but I just wanted something simple that gives me the timing like a real traditional Metronome. Plus, I think the price is pretty steep. ### 4/5 — Love this app but need quality of life improvements *2026-02-08, version 2024.1* This metronome app does pretty much everything I want it to do. I can create various rhythms, control volumes and subdivisions, create playlists with saved metronomes, etc. The biggest headache is the saved metronome functionality. While I can create a folder, I can’t rename the folder. And if I want to reorganize custom metronomes in folders, I need to basically create a new folder, then open up each individual custom metronome, re-save into the new folder, then delete the old folder. Would love for that to be updated. ### 4/5 — Now Better and Still the Best *2022-07-10, version 2022.1.1* Use it for: Drum Practice. Favorite Features: Custom subdivisons to place the accent anywhere you need to hear it. That earned the 5 stars. The wheel and grid tabs are very helpfull. Least Favorite Feature: Most of the sounds are unpleasent and distracting. GUI Needs: Where is the overall volume control? Display the title of the metronome that is currently playing. Allow tempo changes from the grid and wheel tabs. So I emailed the people and they got back to me very quickly. Here is their response : “On the Settings screen, you can access the settings for the downbeat. There is also an option to show the downbeat on the main screen like the other subdivisions.” ### 5/5 — Most Powerful/ Flexible Metronome. *2024-12-25, version 2024.2* It is a great all-arounder. There are times when I want to learn or explore something weird and/or tricky, so I set it up in Metronomics to listen & play along. No other app has taught me more about cool new rhythms than this one! ### 5/5 — Favorite Metronome *2024-05-13, version 2024.1* This is my favorite metronome and I use it for everything! It can function as a basic metronome, but under the hood it has amazing features. I have searched through tons of metronomes and this one is by far the best. My particular use cases are: * Gap click exercises * tempo increases after a certain number of bars * in depth metronome sequencer * saving metronome settings There are so many more great features. Another thing I love about the metronome is that the interface can be very simple if you don't want to use extra features, but the other features are easily available through intuitive menus. For example saving the metronomes and creating a setlist. And, if you're more adventurous, you can go deep and sequence wild and satisfying rhythmic interactions. I love this (and I've only scratched the surface). Combine that with a developer who is wholly invested in making this the best it can be. A no brainer (PS.. go Pro. so affordable and so worth it) ### 5/5 — Nothing Else Around *2021-01-14, version 8.1.7* The Metronomics IOS app lets me take the functionality of Metronomics with me wherever I go. Before getting this app I had no idea that making complex rhythms could be this easy and efficient. And once they are constructed, I can practice them as much as I wish. This app has the functionality of a metronome but it is so much more than that.
