### 5/5 — The perfect app

*2022-11-02*

Metrownome is legitimately useful, well designed, free, and even has a clever name. Heartily recommended for all rowers. Thank you!

### 5/5 — Perfect trainer

*2022-09-20*

There are tons of apps that “teach” you how to row, but this is the simplest, easiest and best way I’ve found to focus only on SPM. The stick figure is a good guide but the beeps make it super easy to time the drive correctly which allows you to focus more on breathing and technique while you keep a consistent pace. Oh, and it’s free.

### 5/5 — Excellent app for beginner

*2022-05-08*

Really useful app for a beginner like me. A companion app for Apple watch would be great!

### 5/5 — Wonderful!

*2022-05-05*

Simple and to the point. When rowing you need to focus on two things: shape and rhythm. The little stick person in the app animation just guides you to do that efficiently and without charging a subscription. Wishlist: allow to program changes in stokes per minute to do sprints/varied workouts.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2022-03-10*

Been looking for a straight to the point rowing metronome and this fit the bill. Power strokes at 20 spm at 1 to 2 ratio is a killer . Download this metronome as this is for rowing as opposed to music.

### 5/5 — Nicely basic

*2022-01-24*

This was a wonderful app to use having a very simple layout and graphic. Just a profile stick figure makes it easy to see just what to do, when. The tone was unobtrusive and easy to follow. My only reason for giving 4 instead of 5 stars is it seems to only allow even stroke rates, but that’s minor (and perhaps I missed an option).

### 5/5 — Simple. To the point.

*2021-11-06, version 2.6*

Great to row to while watching something else in TV or listening to music. Yep.

### 5/5 — Very good app.

*2021-10-24, version 2.6*

The metronome allows me to hit the correct spm from the off and allows me to concentrate on the drive portion of the stroke, without having to constantly check my spm.

### 5/5 — Easy and perfect

*2021-05-18*

This metronome is what I needed to keep my efforts honest and consistent.

Thanks for a clean and easy interface. Great job!!!

### 5/5 — Solid App

*2021-05-03*

It does exactly what it says. Gives you a SPM and a little guy to show the strokes visually. Doesn’t try and sell you a premium version. Love this app.

### 5/5 — The perfect tool

*2021-04-01*

I’ve been using this for years and it has made all the difference in not only my timing but my technique. I love that I can have it running, providing the beep-cues and the awesome stick rower, AND have music playing. Highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Metrownome

*2021-03-04, version 2.6*

Indispensable for my erg workouts.
I train at high stroke rates; this app keeps me focused.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2021-02-26, version 2.5.1*

Simple, easy to use!

### 5/5 — Great Potential

*2021-02-06*

This app is great when learning ratio and rhythm. I use the app on an old iPhone while rowing my ERG Concept 2. I wish the app was able to have PIP Picture in Picture so I’m not using two devices. Also creating workouts like HIIT, dynamically increasing SPM, would be great.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Right idea, incomplete execution

*2015-06-12, version 1.5*

Exactly what I needed, except that I can't change stroke rate, ratio, or rest.

### 3/5 — Due for an update

*2024-02-17, version 2.6*

The app has recently become buggy when connecting to airpods, so basically unusable in the gym, sadly.

Also, if the devs added the option of saving timed workouts and intervals (for example, a workout that is 5mins at 16spm, then 5mins 20spm, etc.), it would be so much more valuable and I’m sure could attract more people willing to splash the £££.

### 4/5 — Just what I was after

*2026-01-03, version 2.6*

It's good to see exactly how I should be rowing in the stick figure during each stroke. Would be nice to be able too pre-set a full warm up, row and cool down cycle with different rates and durations rather than trying to adjust during the exercise. But I'll certainty keep using this.

### 4/5 — Pretty good

*2025-08-22, version 2.6*

Thanks for the free app

Just in case you have an interest in improvements,
The app seems to freeze/stop working when there is a phone call.
The rowing man should fill the screen in any orientation.
Tooltips for what all the settings do would be nice.
(iPhone 12pro)

### 4/5 — Decent

*2022-10-25*

The app does what it claims and is decent for keeping SR. However, I use this on an erg and would love the ability to let it play in the background after leaving the app

### 4/5 — Nice app

*2021-08-11, version 2.6*

A simple but good app that helps me keep pace while exercising. Would score 5 stars if intervals could be programmed, as i do have to briefly stop between stroke rates to adjust (the swipe function works, but number is so small and sensitive that cannot be done smoothly while rowing).

### 4/5 — Really helpful app

*2021-03-04, version 2.6*

I been using this to help me pace my strokes with my internal rowing machine. I am finding it really useful. But the one thing that this needs at the moment is a programmable timer which can switch stroke-frequency automatically. Say 3 mins of 22 strokes p/m followed by 2 mins at 24 strokes, followed by 28 strokes p/min and so on. That would earn the extra star for me. Great job!

### 4/5 — Good but...

*2020-06-07*

This app is screaming for the ability to add workout plans. If a series of cadence changes good be programmed such as 1 min at 26, 30 sec at 20, that would make this simple app great.

### 4/5 — Great app, mind putting up a privacy policy?

*2020-05-13, version 2.5.1*

Love the app so far, but could you guys put up a privacy policy on your website? I just want to know what kind of info the app collects.

### 4/5 — Totally awesome needs background support

*2020-04-03*

This is absolutely perfect for what I need it for. It is missing one thing: I would like it to be able to continue running in the background so that I can run the ErgData app while using it for the sounds.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Simple

*2026-01-17*

Simple, no frills. I get to focus more on my technique, power and efficiency and not get distracted by “busy” apps. Great product.

### 5/5 — Best APP!

*2025-04-08, version 2.6*

Very precise and accurate.
Easy to use.
Supports split screen so listen to whatever music you want while using the app.

### 5/5 — Great for ERG

*2024-10-04, version 2.6*

I love using this on the ERG to help me stick to the right pace. Would love the ability to turn down the volume of the tone, as it overpowers my music in my headphones.

### 5/5 — Stick Man!

*2024-06-14*

The stick figure not only helped me keep my pace, but helped me keep my proper form, even when tired.

### 5/5 — Great value

*2024-04-09*

I’d pay extra to customize tone so it would blend with my music better. Thank you

### 5/5 — Sometimes simplest is the best

*2024-02-06, version 2.6*

This is a perfect complement to any training routine. Helps you internalize timing and drive/recovery ratios.

### 5/5 — A simple thing done pedfectly

*2023-12-28*

well, at least approximately, like rowing itself.

### 5/5 — Wish I’d found this sooner!

*2023-07-29, version 2.6*

What a first class app. Simple, intuitive, and backed with solid explanations on the important stuff. I also really like the developer’s non-intrusive approach against data collection, rare for a top flight, highly useful free app.
Superb.

### 5/5 — Timing is great

*2023-02-24, version 2.6*

Timing is great. Just need programmes of alternating times of period of workout

### 5/5 — Simple. Helpful.

*2023-01-31, version 2.6*

Provides focus
