### 2/5 — Frustrating

*2026-01-04, version 2.26*

Not a good as their web site

### 4/5 — Does the job better than most

*2025-11-12, version 2.25.0*

Has everything you need and a bit more. Easy and logical to navigate and leaves out the fluff other apps think is groovy.

### 2/5 — Limited data

*2025-09-18, version 2.24.1*

If it’s not a city or a very major town you don’t even get the current temperature. You likely won’t get any of the other data like humidity, drying time, tides, or wind. Hell, if you’re like Motueka you’ll get some of this extra data but you still can’t get a current temperature!

I hear from people that MetService is much more accurate than apple weather, but I wouldn’t know since I get almost no data for my area despite living a few km away from a weather station and radar!!

### 1/5 — Is Manukau Harbour land or Water?

*2025-09-07, version 2.24.1*

Why does the rain radar on the app show the glorious Manukau Harbour as land? While every other bit of local water (Kaipara, Tamaki, Firth of Thames) actually look like water. I would also like to see a ‘dot’ to show my current location on the rain radar.

### 1/5 — Not good

*2025-09-07, version 2.24.1*

Too many ads. No im
Not paying for your app either.

### 1/5 — Too many ads and stole my $

*2025-09-07, version 2.24.1*

He tangata as noted below is a very true sentiment.

I like many purchased the app only to have the ad free version pulled and be spammed with ads.

The deal wasn’t too have it for x years to support the development as MetService is claiming in its replies.

### 1/5 — “Choose ad free” paid subscription…

*2025-08-19, version 2.24.1*

The original paid ad free experience was pulled. I’m not paying for this new one. Would rather use a different service.

### 1/5 — Still no good

*2025-08-16, version 2.24.1*

Too OFTEN the forecast does not match the hourly graph, which shows no rain when you say rain in forecast and vis versa. Also the wind direction is different on hourly compared to 3 day forecast.
How can anyone prepare when it is wrong more than right.
Doesn’t match the weather on telly either, which is supposed to be the same provider.

### 1/5 — Bit of a scam

*2025-08-09, version 2.24.1*

Paid for ad free app years ago. Has ads, now selling monthly non-ad subscription.
Just use the Apple weather app.

Update: The developer is responding to reviews saying ‘but we want more money’. They sold a product to be ad free, then added ads back in, then added another subscription option to remove ads. Doesn’t pass the sniff test.

Again, just use the Apple weather app.

### 2/5 — Paid for app

*2025-07-27, version 2.24.1*

Paid for this app originally, then along came the ads, now you are trying to charge a fee to go ad free. Was a good app back in the day. Time to move on.

### 1/5 — Basically scammed

*2025-07-24, version 2.24.1*

Purchased this app a long time ago when it was paid app. Then they made it a free app with ad. Now they want subscription. What a scam.

### 3/5 — Paid for ads

*2025-07-23, version 2.24.1*

I just paid to have the ads removed and now there’s an ad banner telling me that I paid to remove the ads!?! WTF? The rest of the app is really good.

### 1/5 — Why would we pay?

*2025-07-13, version 2.24.0*

I paid for the first MetService app. Soon after we got ads again. I see it’s back. Why would I pay for a service that is often so wrong. Windy is free and has better accuracy.

### 2/5 — A functional mess

*2025-07-13, version 2.24.0*

It’s functional. Poor interface design. Dated aesthetic but it gives me the weather and also some features that are badly implemented and get in the way of telling me the weather.

As someone who actually paid for this app many, many years ago, I’ve come to terms that I now get served ads (although now they’re offering me the option to pay a monthly subscription to not get adds).

Who’s advising them? Please, I implore you - get them to think about human centred design - do proper UX research - get them to think who this app is for. It wouldn’t cost much to scrap this mess and start from scratch with an actual strategy ... and give us an app to be proud of. Come on people, if not for me ... then for New Zealand!

### 1/5 — Can we remove the ads?

*2025-06-17, version 2.23.0*

Great data but the interface and user experience is so bad, because of the ads. It’s 2025 .. I would pay for an ad free app

### 1/5 — Very broken and inaccurate forecasts

*2025-06-12, version 2.23.0*

Worst marketing app with a terrible weather accuracy platform.

This app is so broken the list view keeps jumping around when user tries to scroll. The app looks like is was designed and developed by children in primary school.

### 3/5 — Widgets stopped working

*2025-06-03, version 2.23.0*

Can you fix the widgets?

### 1/5 — iPad widget doesn’t work

*2025-05-15, version 2.23.0*

Have emailed multiple times and no response. The widget doesn’t work on either of my iPads. So basically useless to me.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Annoying

*2026-04-03*

Annoying

### 1/5 — McDonald’s weather app

*2026-01-28, version 2.27*

What in God’s name is the met office up to? Since this morning, the weather forecast has up to 6 large ads for McDonalds pretend food on each page. A joke!

### 1/5 — Still no good

*2026-01-26, version 2.27*

Most unreliable more often than not!!!

### 1/5 — Website is better than the app

*2026-01-15, version 2.26*

No surface pressure under the maps and radar

### 1/5 — Constantly spectacularly wrong; ignore all warnings

*2025-12-28, version 2.26*

How you can be so spectacularly wrong so many times and most particularly with your ‘keep the people frightened’ warnings, makes my head spin. Still waiting for the warned heavy rain in Tauranga. Understand temp variations given you take them at the airport, which is so relevant to so few, but inundations that don’t even water the garden… I’ll just keep looking up and watching the wind and clouds.

### 1/5 — Just Look out the Window - Contradictions and Inaccuracies at every level

*2025-10-28, version 2.25.0*

One usually looks at the weather for a purpose. Is it possible to complete certain activities that rely on specific conditions? Unfortunately, Metservice only provides consistency in its inability to answer this question. The rain radar and daily weather descriptions are often illustrating opposite accounts of the conditions. While this is acknowledged on the rain radar, nothing is done to rectify the predicament leaving us to take a best guess without any certainty. The daily forecast description and rain radar need to be unified to make this even a passable account of the weather. Even then both systems are often inaccurate. Save yourself the headache and look out the window.

### 1/5 — Excessive advertising

*2025-10-25, version 2.25.0*

This app would be better without the ads. There should be an option for NZ taxpayers to have an ad free experience.

### 1/5 — No Grandfather option for original paid users.

*2025-10-06, version 2.25.0*

I previously purchased this app when it was advertised as ad-free. Updates since have added advertisements and now require a subscription to remove them. It feels unfair to existing paid users not to have our original ad-free access honoured.

The new ad placement is intrusive and takes up much of the interface, which wasn’t reflected in the App Store screenshots. I’d really appreciate it if the developer could restore ad-free access for prior purchasers.

### 1/5 — No

*2025-09-26, version 2.24.1*

I do not like this app and it has way too many ads. Do not recommend.

### 1/5 — Bad

*2025-09-21, version 2.24.1*

Very poor. Sometimes says “current conditions aren’t available right now” for hours. Very annoying ad at the start of the forecast. Best to stick to the Apple Weather app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Easy and amazing!

*2026-07-29*

New Zealand weather is so hard to predict but this oh my days it works so well!!

### 5/5 — F F F FINALLY

*2025-07-17, version 2.24.1*

Never have I ever signed up for something faster

Thank you for Finally Offering people a way to get rid of the ads

Can we get shortcuts actions/app intents and larger widget sizing next?

Or god forbid actual publicly available paid api access?

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2025-03-11*

Every country should have this kind of quality forecast app

### 5/5 — Nothing wrong with it. Good app

*2025-03-10, version 2.23.0*

No idea why there are so many poor reviews. This app is good and has accurate information and helpful tips

### 5/5 — Don’t listen to the bad ratings

*2024-12-22, version 2.22.1*

This is the only app that you can accurately use for NZ weather. The ads aren’t that bad — they’re not intrusive — and the app itself is actually very good. It doesn’t say Wellington is Windy all the time, the rain radar is accurate, and so is the ‘feels like’ temperature. These three things are where the Apple Weather app is useless (see my review for that). In short, this is an app worth using.

### 5/5 — Good stuff

*2024-12-07, version 2.22.1*

App works a treat, the radar function is superb for seeing What exactly is coming your way so great for planning outdoor work. Recommend

### 5/5 — Good Improvements

*2024-04-14, version 2.20.4*

I decided to give the app another go after giving up on earlier versions. The latest definitely has come with some improvements. I find the home screen widget really helpful and a great link to more info. Only wish we could buy an ad free versions

### 5/5 — Notifications

*2024-02-01, version 2.20.3*

So happy that severe weather notifications are here, i’d really love to see more notification settings such as precipitation (ie. notifications when it’s about to rain etc) keep up the good work!!

### 5/5 — Great app on ios17

*2023-11-04, version 2.19.2*

IOS17 has helped improve MetService. But if posssible can the background image show the weather too that would be call needs a little more detail information and more in depth info of the when a storm is coming but other than that awesome

### 5/5 — Most accurate weather data in the country.

*2023-03-21*

Metservice has to have the most accurate weather information in New Zealand. It is right about 90% of the time and is waaaaaay better than Google and Apple weather. Yes, it doesn’t have as nice of UI design and can kinda be a bit ugly at times. But it is always right.
