## What is MicType?

MicType turns your own AI into a keyboard — privately.

Private by design
Speech-to-text runs entirely on your iPhone; audio never leaves your device. The optional AI uses YOUR own API key and the endpoint YOU choose. There's no account, no sign-in, and no MicType server — we never receive your voice or your text.

Your own LLM, anywhere you type
More than dictation: MicType is a doorway to your own large language model. Tap to dictate, or hold to speak an instruction — polish, translate, rewrite, summarize, draft a reply, or ask a question — and your model's answer is typed right where you are, in any app.

Buy once, no subscription
Local dictation is free forever. Unlock the AI features with a single one-time purchase — no monthly, no yearly. You only ever pay your own provider for the tokens you use.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.5 — 2026-07-12

Dictation is now faster — and you can watch it happen.

· Speed: cloud dictation typically lands in about a second. Recordings upload ~5x smaller, the cloud races your on-device engine with a hard time budget, and a slow network can never stall a result.
· Accuracy: cloud recognition now runs on a higher-accuracy engine, your words stay in the language you spoke (mixed Chinese-English included), and the polish step is smarter about fixing misheard words.
· Pick your transcription service: Cloud recognition (optional, off by default) now has its own provider choice — with a one-tap connection check that shows the round-trip time. Use a fast transcription provider while your AI assistant stays wherever you like; picking the same provider for both shares a single key.
· Live draft: while the final text is being prepared, the keyboard shows a clearly-labeled draft inside its own panel. Your message field only ever receives the final text, once.
· Custom reply (new): save a reply style in Settings (e.g. "answer with dry humor"), then copy a message and tap the wand key — a reply in your style is drafted by your own AI and inserted at the cursor.
· Polish keeps your voice: fillers, stutters and misheard words get cleaned up, but your tone and phrasing stay yours — chat messages still sound like you, and every fact, number and question is kept.
· Reliability: a result can no longer appear in the wrong app long after a dictation, consumed text never lingers, and empty or silent recordings say "didn't catch that" instead of inserting junk.

Thanks for using MicType!

### 1.0.4 — 2026-07-07

Your keyboard just got a big upgrade.

· Cloud recognition (optional): transcribe with your own AI key — automatic language detection and better punctuation. Off by default; recognition stays fully on-device unless you opt in, and any failure falls back to on-device instantly.
· AirPods fixed: headphones no longer disconnect, your music keeps playing, and on supported AirPods MicType now listens through the headset mic while you dictate.
· Typing feel: key press highlights and haptics, hold-to-repeat delete, long-press accents (é ü ñ), a #+= symbols layer, cursor control by sliding on the space bar, smarter auto-capitalization, and a much clearer Caps Lock.
· Keep-mic-ready window is now yours: 6, 15, or 60 minutes.
· Fixes: provider settings no longer reset when switching, wrong-language dictation auto-recovers, short phrases insert instantly.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-06-27

Voice commands now act on what you copied.

· Hold the mic and say "translate what I copied" or "summarize my clipboard," and MicType runs the command on your clipboard — even when some text is already selected. Great for acting on something you copied from another app.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-06-27

Smarter voice commands, cleaner dictation.

· Long text, handled right — copy a long passage first, then hold the mic and say "translate this" or "reply to this." MicType works on the whole thing (iOS limits how much a keyboard can read from a selection, so copying gets the full text).
· Lighter cleanup — dictation now keeps your wording and length instead of over-shortening it.
· Smoother — polished text appears once now, with no more text changing right after it lands.
· Short Chinese sentences no longer get a forced trailing period.
· Fixes — long AI replies no longer come back empty, and a brief network hiccup no longer shows a false "API not verified."

### 1.0.1 — 2026-06-25

Switch dictation language right on the keyboard — no need to open the app.

· NEW: a language chip in the voice panel (EN / 中 / 日本語 / 한국어 / Español / Français / Deutsch, or follow System) — tap to switch dictation language without leaving what you're typing.
· Better recognition: clearer English and mixed Chinese-English, with smarter sentence punctuation. Still 100% on-device — your audio never leaves your phone.
· Smoother in the background: the mic no longer drops out when other apps play sound, and MicType no longer interrupts your music or podcasts.
· In-app and keyboard language settings now stay in sync — your last choice wins.
· Reliability and bug fixes.
